Pish Posh Indoor Storm

I don't normally like to rip and upload full CDs to the 'Net. Some shit, though? I feel like if I don't do it, who will? And really, some releases need to be unearthed to the masses.

Pish Posh, aka DJ Wally, is someone I like to consider an influence in my life. Even though I've not dealt with him too in depth, I did interview him last year, and have been a fan of his ever since I copped Genetic Flaw back in high school. When he started to move more in-depth with the Drum & Bass/Jungle side of his production, it was essentially seeing pure American DnB coming together. For the longest, any DnB played stateside was from the UK (essentially how it must've been in the UK when Hip-Hop was born). Wally was at the forefront of that brutal NYC flavored DnB, and I got to chart its progress with each release. First came Up Jumps Tha Boogie, which was released on Rawkus' Raw.kuts imprint (which both Wally and DJ Seen were super-instrumental in bringing to life). The sound on this one was more of the "Jump Up" sound that had the heavy Hip-Hop flair to it, which was definitely sick for that time (it also contained the massive "Corrupt Cops", which has since been remixed by Evol Intent, and was heavily instrumental in solidifying Evol Intent's G).

Now, I bring all of that up to speak on Indoor Storm, which I believe was the last release of any kind on Raw.kuts. This comes 3 years after Up Jumps, and in that time, not only has the geographical reach of DnB production opened up, but the sound had gone through so many permutations, sub-genres seemingly popped up every few months. While artists like Hive, UFO!, JuJu and others were flying the flag for Drum & Bass in America (among a host of others), Pish Posh, DJ Seen and Chris Thomas were still my favorites, joining up to become the Burner Brothers. This CD was essentially Pish Posh's call to arms, his defining DnB statement, and a supreme showcase of that hard-hitting, New York City bred Drum & Bass pressure. You got a taste of their flex with "The Offlanders", as well as the third edition of Seen & Wally's "Monsta" series. This CD has that dancefloor bounce, the hazy, dark textures of the post-Techstep era, and carries that pulsating swagger about it that kept many a club rockin' when either of these 3 touched down. Plus, MC Posi-D's MC hosting duties add just the right touch of the "live" feel to this disc - he does what good DnB MCs do: he chats when needed, and keeps it quiet as well.

Recommends "The Offlanders", "HP 52", "The Monsta, v.03" & "Cosmos"

I say all of this for two reasons: back around Valentine's Day 2001, this CD dropped, and I was going through some shit. I literally hopped on a train from Trenton to Philly and plunked down $16 for this disc, came home, hit the peace pipe a taste and got to escape the duldrums of life for an hour... the other reason is, the Burner Brothers have some ish coming out on Subsonik Sound like next month, and I'm trying to get into that mindframe to knock out some writtens for them. They have even more than that dropping, but we'll keep that on the low until the time is right.
