If you sleep on Ilyas' The Prelude, you might as well disown Hip-Hop. This shit knocks. Shouts to Tanya Morgan, and shouts to Elucid for lacing me with this earlier in the week. I figured I'd drop this on the 17th, as i-EL would've liked.
the least jiggy and the most no frills.

Crew54 ft. Lower Life Form "Stay On It": Here's the first leak from a new EP from Crew54 and The Jake, which drops on January 27th. The Jake goes in and remixed a batch of Crew54 jawns. This cut here is perfect winter shit. Bundle up and let the warmth from the headphones warm you...
Busta Rhymes ft. Uncle Murda & Red Cafe "Please Give Me More Ammo": Bus hits up two of the current Rap game's worst ad-libbers to coast over one of my favorite tracks, ever. Take a good pull or two and stab out to this.
Bangladesh is trying to parlay his recent props for "A Milli" and "Diva" into a career as an artist himself. Peep this Don Cannon-assisted mixtape and see if dude needs to be behind the mic, or just stay behind the boards...
Props to Get Right for this one.
AB & Daru ft. Black Milk "On Deck": Shouts to my nigga Aeon for hitting me with this. I love when shit I would love isn't on my radar, and my inbox gets blessed with groovin' bangers like this one. I'm not even in a singing mood, but I can vibe to this one heavy.

I think I'm on my "late 90's turntablism" shit today. My copy of Sunglasses Is A Must came in, and I got an e-mail from Keelay about this Beat Freaks project from one of the illest turntablists ever, DJ Vinroc:

The Notorious M.I.A. "Ten Paper Commandments": Here's a blend of Biggie's vocals from "Ten Crack Commandments" over THE choice riddim, M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes". Shouts to DJ Indiana Jones and the fam over at Crush Entertainment for this one.

With Notorious in theaters today, Hot 97's Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg did a grip of special interviews on their morning show this week, all B.I.G.-related:
Shouts to Jo Well for hitting me with this; apparently, Jo and DJ DviousMindZ hooked up off of 2dopeboyz, and built to a point where they completed an EP, which is set to drop later this month. 2DB has leaked both tracks, and Jo just put me on to them; check these two cuts out:Your thoughts? Be on the lookout for this EP when it drops!
Richard Raw "Juicy (Remix)": Here's a special B.I.G. dedication track; make sure you go see Notorious, which opens in theaters today. Richard Raw's album, They Don't Know, is available now!
Here's a recording of some ill spoken word from Old Money LIVE at The Apollo. Listening to this makes me wish I still wrote B2B had the balls to spit my shit in front of people.
50 Cent "I Get It In" (prod. by Dr. Dre): Posting this purely because it's the mixed version that 50 spoke about last week. I'm still not thinking this is that joint that will elevate his status back to where he was, but the clubs will definitely rock to this one.
DJ Cable "Destiny's Pulse": Cable keeps the blends coming; this week, Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" gets the UK Garage/Grime workout atop Youngstar's "Pulse X". This shit has a nice knock to an already ill club banger. For those of you who want to check out DJ Cable pon di radio, his show "Free to Roam" on Safe Radio goes down this Sunday, 4PM - 6PM GMT; he'll be dropping Bmore, Grime, Fidget, Funky, Hip Hop, Dubstep and more, so be on the lookout for his show!
Joe Budden "Letter To Saigon": Joey goes in on this Saigon nonsense. Damn. I have no words.
The Dope Enemy ft. TQ, Shade Sheist & Mams Taylor "Private Club": Here's the fresh track from The Dope Enemy, aka Def Jam UK's DJ Fricktion. It looks like homey is on his grind right now, building on previous UK/Int'l props for his remixes of Diddy's "Come To Me" and Cassie's "Me & You", which was so hot Ryan Leslie was noted to vocally be on the hunt for dude on BBC's 1Xtra. Dude is already lining up remixes and collaborations that include tracks from Mams Taylor (ft. The Game & Lil' Kim), N.O.R.E., Rah Digga and others. Keep your eyes peeled for DJ Fricktion/The Dope Enemy! Shouts to www.lovesoul.tv as well.
Mikkey Halsted ft. GLC "Just Juke" (prod. by No ID): Here's the first leak from Fake Shore Drive and Timbuck2's forthcoming mixtape, The Chicagorilla Ape Tape Vol. 1. Expect new and unreleased gems from the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Rhymefest, GLC, Mikkey Halsted, Naledge, Twista, Sly Polaroid, Really Doe and others.
Pugs Atomz ft. Sadat X "Wait And See" (ft. Smirz): Damn, Pugs. You really are on it with this Roof Top album, eh? Pugs and the Wild Cowboy link up for a guitar-driven banger. I need the complete album, Pugs!
Somobe ft. The Jake "Building (Feel This One Remix)": Sometimes, you just have to give it up for niggas who flip a collage of sounds into a hypnotic beat, and come thoro on the mic. This is that shit that reminds me of the days when UGHH on college radio was my life.
Superstar L.T. ft. Freeway "Philly 2 Beantown": Here's a collabo between Philly's Freeway and Clinton Sparks' new artist, Superstar L.T.. He's gearing up for his Clinton Sparks-assisted mixtape, Voice Of The City, as well as a DVD documentary that will be dropping the same day. He's already getting in the studio with cats like DJ Khaled, Akon, Rick Ross, Ray J and others, so expect to be hearing homey's name in a bit. Or, as Clinton would say... g-g-g-g-g-get familiar!
Mos Def "Quiet Dog": Shake says this is the 2nd single from Mos' forthcoming Ecstatic LP. I say I am feeling it. Sounds like a banger that took a trip to the juke joint. Nice swing in that beat, and Mos kicks it effortlessly.
The image says it all. Stones Throw says more: "J. Rocc's DJ set recorded live on New Year's Day 2009 at The Do-Over in Los Angeles. Thanks to The Do-Over's Haycock, Strong and Blacc.
Soulja Boy "Big Faces" (prod. by Cookin' Soul): Wow, talk about unexpected. Soulja Boy over some slick CS shit!? AND its on some futuristic old school shit? I love it. Not even mad at SB's remedial raps on this one. This can be found on that Tell 'Em TV mixtape, from DJ Woogie & Soulja Boy, which also features the CS-produced "Angel Girl".
Cy Yung "3 Little Pigs" (prod. by Centric): Here's track #19 off that Back 2 Lyfe: The Return Of Greatness mixtape. I might need to get my son up on this rendition, he loves when I read Three Little Pigs to him.
Katy Perry ft. Cy Yung "I Kissed A Girl (J. Slikk Remix)": Slikk sent me an early version of this remix a few weeks ago, and I feel in love with the total 180 he gave the original. The original is all new school hedonism, while this one is a lot more seductive, more sensual and raw. Sounds like a version Katy would play in concert to flip the script. The homey Cy Yung goes in and imitates that processed vocal in a hilarious send-up. Some seriously great music here.
JaY-OvA "U Gots Ta Chill": Here's a blend that the homey JaY-OvA sent over, dropping the acapella from T.I.'s "What You Know" over Michael Jackson's "Stranger In Moscow". You might be scratching your head, but trust - get a glass of that good 'gac, maybe put a bit of something in the air and cool out to this. Be on the lookout for his next mixtape as well!
Nas "Fear Of Mandingo" (prod. by Green Lantern): I dropped the mixtape this was heard on (DJ Degreez & Nas' El Dorado Black Project) over on BGDB, and I got an e-mail today with the No DJ version being dropped, and saw that Shake liberated it as well. Enjoy these!
Lil' Fats ft. Sha Stimuli, Cymarshall Law, Add 2, Jusmula, Miz & St. Laz "Coast 2 Coast Cypher #1" (prod. by Young Asap): The beginning of 2009 marked the beginning of the Coast 2 Coast Cyphers from Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes. This first one is taken from the Coast 2 Coast Mixtape Vol. 63, which is set to drop later this week. Gotta love cyphers, right?

Ciara ft. Lil' Wayne & Lil' Jon "Roll Call" (prod. by Lil' Jon): There's been a bunch of tracks that Ciara has leaked over the last few months - I guess she had to go to Lil' Jon, who's crafted some major ish for her, and the current wunderkid, Weezy, for this new one. Will she be next on 50's hit list for this one?

Props to my homey Tech Supreme for starting out 2009 with a free EP of that Soul music. I say "Soul" because it's that shit that hits you deep in your core. From the post over on his blog, this EP is a "collection of songs dealing with a woman". Notice the title - this ain't no picnic. But those beats are FIRE, and he goes into some deep shit in this one.
I grew up reading. I was reading on my own at age 3, and when I got into something, I had to read all I can on it. So, between issues of Pro Wrestling Illustrated and WWF Magazine, I got consumed by magazines like Rap Pages, The Source and Vibe, with XXL to follow suit. So, whether directly or indirectly, I've followed Danyel Smith and Elliott Wilson's work for a while. If you don't know, they are a happily married couple, and have started their own podcast. And its the kind of shit that Hip-Hop nerds like myself are into: healthy conversation, keeping sure to balance both sides of the Hip-Hop spectrum (true school vs. what's poppin' now), as well as injecting that humor that's always necessary. It's not as bugged and testosterone-fueled as Juan Epstein, and I'm glad it's not. It's the kind of podcast I think I'd do if I had someone else to bullshit with.
The homey Master 3 has a new album on the horizon entitled Light Up The Darkness, which is loosely based on the events in the 2007 film I Am Legend. He hit me off with two tracks from this project, and asked that the wealth be shared:
