J Dilla ft. Black Thought "Reality Check"

J Dilla ft. Black Thought "Reality Check": Talk about waking up on the right side of the bed. I hit up OnSMASH and saw this post about a new (to us) track from Dilla and the homey Black Thought; this is from Jay Stay Paid, a 25-track album, arranged by Pete Rock, of unreleased Dilla cuts featuring cats like DOOM, Raekwon, Illa J, Blu, Havoc, M.O.P. and more, all with Ma Dukes' blessing. I need this.

I don't know about your hood, but my neck of the woods has some beautiful weather poppin' off right now. This should be a nice weekend - lil' man will be with grandmom, Trenton will be invaded by Freestyle legends, and its my wedding anniversary! Let's go!

Maxwell "Fortunate"

This weekend in my area is going to be ill. Nice weather (I might crack out the shorts!), good times with the family. Enjoy your time, party people! Next week, I think I'll be compiling all of the playlist tracks into a large .zip file, so you can either grab the whole lot or go to the individual links... holla!

Dallas is one of them niggas I meet on the internets and think "yeah, we'd get along IRL", but for some reason (mostly my lack of leaving my 3-town area), we never link up. We'll make good on it someday, trust.

ANYWAYS, he hooked up with the niggas at HoodHype.com to chat a host of stuff, and it's been recorded!

Drake x Hot 97

April 16th, 2009 was Drake's day at Hot 97. Not only was he interviewed by the lovely Angie Martinez (where I found out that this nigga used to be on Degrassi), but he also dropped a sick freestyle for Funkmaster Flex:

Drake also touched down on Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg, which you can hear on today's show. I haven't been following dude's shit, but I got a feeling he's gonna pop off this year... definitely in 2010. His link with Lil' Wayne is gonna help that, but dude has enough star power to do it on his own. Watch out for him.

FuseBox Radio (Week of April 15th, 2009)

Direct mp3 Download (right click and "save as")

Direct mp3 Download Backup (right click and "save as"; via Blip.TV)

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of April 15, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary.

This week's commentary focused on the entire mainstream media (MSM) coverage about the Somali pirate scenario, the rise of more extreme right-wing organizations in the U.S. since the election of Pres. Barack Obama (and why in a way, it's a pretty silly scenario on multiple levels in regards to being scared of certain Black People) and some other things here and there.

This week on the show, we had a great interview with Dave Kusek (instructor at Berklee School of Music amongst other accomplishments), the co-author of book "The Future Of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution".

Some of the subject matter we touched on during the interview included how technology has totally changed the current state of music industry in the past 10 - 15 years, how hard working independent artists currently have some of the most optimal chances to distribute, promote and sell their music to the masses due to things like internet innovations (Web 2.0, self-distribution options for music & content, etc.), where the current music industry should change to be both profitable and give music to the people they way they want, reaching out for niche audiences (esp. in the different genres of Black Music) and more!

Please check out Mr. Kusek's official site for "The Future Of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution" book (which also has lots of great articles about the future of the music industry) at http://futureofmusicbook.com/!

Due to our interview, we did not have new DirectEFX or Black Agenda Report segments this week.

Feel free to check out some archived episodes of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast here and on on BlackRadioIsBack.com - all of the shows are clean/radio friendly.

The Rapture "Three Pounds (Of Reg)": Mr. Spit himself hit me with this earlier today, and it reminds me of wake-n-bake Saturday mornings. As much as I can't even rock with the herb anymore, I miss those times. The real reason I fuck with this, though, is because Rapture is a regular dude - this is like the regular nigga anthem.

I actually picked a few of the joints played in this episode - think of it as a peek into my weekly, personal playlist, with Deal's commentary (this week's topic: spirituality vs. religion) splashed throughout.

ihatelegacy.com; RTD interview coming soon!

DubMD & Cy Yung Present Madicinal Libationz

I previewed this earlier today, and just got the official shizzle from Dub MD. I'll leave everything else to his words on this project:

"me·dic·i·nal: A preparation or product having the properties of a medicine.
li·ba·tion: The pouring of a liquid offering as a religious ritual.

When super producer J Dilla passed away in 2006, few could claim they felt the loss more than Madlib. He and Dilla had come together to present one of the most critically claimed albums of 2003, Champion Sound, and were planning on coming together again to continue to bring jaw-dropping soundscapes to the masses for years to come. It wasn't meant to be. Since the loss of J-Dilla, Jaylib's other half has continued pushing his beat factory to its limits, interweaving solo projects dedicated to or predicated by Dilla's spirit in with EPs and albums highlighting some of today's most underrated lyricists and singers. Madlib is the textbook definition of a "über-producer", one who raises the bar consistently in quality and quantity, leaving a legacy few (besides his partner J-Dilla) could even come close to touching. But, as Roger Guenver Smith said as he portrayed Huey P. Newton in the critically-acclaimed A Huey P. Newton Story, "Everyone wants to bring you flowers when you die, no one gives you a bowl of soup to help keep you alive." It is in this context, Dub MD and Cyrano would like to present a "bowl of soup" to Madlib entitled Madicinal Libationz.

Cyrano's horizons are set even higher for 2009 as he attempts to add to his ever-growing, Madlib-esque catalog, including releasing 3 albums, Back 2 Lyfe (produced by Centric for Free At Last Music Group) and Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez (produced by JSLIKK for Backpackers Anonymous Music Group) along with SOBEIT (produced by Kid Hum for House Of Waxx Recordings) Also, be on the lookout as the RockTheDub website will be releasing a mixtape with Cy Yung entitled The Bleu Bayou Project. In addition to all that Dub MD with be connecting once again with Detroit emcee Nametag for Classic Cadence Vol. 2 and once again with the diabolical genius that is Illmind for Blaps, Rhymes & Life Vol. 3 in the next couple of months, stay tuned!
"

Enjoy this!

I highly recommend this one - very ill project, which I've known about for a bit and surprisingly kept it quiet! I'm working on Cy's Bleu Bayou, I'll be unleashing that one in the very near future. SOBEIT is coming, too!

EDIT It looks like the good folks over at Stones Throw are hating on this project. For some reason (I think they believe that the use of Madlib instrumentals will somehow stop their money), the majority of the links being created for this project are dying. What I need you to do is KEEP THIS PROJECT ALIVE! If you dig quality Hip-Hop, love the work Madlib has blessed the people with, and respect the hardwork and dedication it took to get this project off the ground, I ask you - download this from one of the following links:

(mirror \ mirror \ mirror \ mirror \ mirror \ mirror)

HipHopDX Interviews DOOM

The homey Noz interviewed DOOM for HipHopDX, and got the meat right out of the way. He asked about the live scandal(s), and DOOM didn't flinch:

DOOM: [Laughs] Alright. Here's how I look at it, because the wording in there is kinda funny. "Impostor." Impostor would imply that the character. I liken it to this: I'm a director as well as a writer. I choose different characters, I choose their direction and where I want to put them. So who I choose to put as the character is up to me. The character that I hired, he got paid for it. There's no impostor.

I told you it was probably some Tony Clifton shit. And I respect that.

Cymarshall Law "Must Be Love (Remix)": My boy Cymarshall Law is the next MC to hop on my favorite instrumental of the Spring. Twists a tale that sounds kind of like how I met my wifey... speaking of which, I'll be 7 years in, relationship-wise, this Sunday. Craziness. I love it.

Cypher Linguistics "New Life"

Cypher Linguistics "New Life": All real fathers will shed a tear, or just smile, when listening to this cut from CL. It borrows heavy from "Feeling Good", and gives me the goosebumps when I think about my own lil' one. Shit like that... man, I was at home last night peepin' old pics of my son. Those kids grow up FAST... anyways, enjoy this one. Shouts to Cypher for making this track!

It will be dropping in less than 3 hours, but I just got my mittens on it, and with a cover THAT FLY, and a tracklist this ill, I had to divulge some info before it drops...

Mobb Deep ft. 50 Cent "Pearly Gates"

Mobb Deep ft. 50 Cent "Pearly Gates": Remember the minor stir this caused when it dropped? No? Do you remember that beat? No? WTF were you doing in 2006? Prodigy goes IN on Jesus. "Tell the bossman that we got beef"!?! What better day to get religion than Easter. Think on it...
