Jay-Z "D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)"

Jay-Z "D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)" (prod. by No ID & Kanye West): Here's a radio rip (thanks PreZZure) of Jigga's new street single... a track that just got pulled back like 20 times on Hot 97, and had twitter on smizzy. Bloggers mad, niggas wondering if autotune is truly dead, Ron Browz hurt. Enigmatik live-blogged the funkery. Will update with CDQ when it comes out (we're watching you, NMC)... EDIT OnSMASH liberated a CDQ version. Props to Enigmatik for hipping me to Legend's leakage. Duly updated... NOTE this is an unedited version; the version blasted previously had DJ Clue's name edited out.

FINAL EDIT?? YN has liberated the DIRTY, mastered version, straight from Guru. Thanks, RapRadar!

EDIT Updated with a high quality, 4:12min radio rip via Dre.

EDIT Funkmaster Flex and Mister Cee discussing this killed me. Judging by the chatter, Hip-Hop needs more events like this. "You bloggers are going to be mad at me, but you took a short today..."

EDIT Jay-Z's post-game interview

EDIT Updated with a clean, unmastered, "No DJ" version of this track has leaked overnight/this morning, via Miss Info & Lowkey. I'd feel stupid even putting CDQ on it, because CD quality wouldn't sound that off. My DnB engineer nerds know what time it is. Enjoy it sans Flex and Cee going in over it, and I imagine the proper CDQ will leak on Sunday...

EDIT Sean Fennessey dissects "D.O.A." for Vibe.

EDIT Took out Kanye's name from the credits, because Andrew said so.

EDIT Ivan of HHIR hit me with this post, exposing the sample used in this (no, it's not Steam); this, folks, is exactly why No ID has been one of my favorite producers for so long.

The Spitzwell Brotherz & DJ E$ The Premium Blend

While I'm GLAD the Spitzwell Brotherz got at me about their Premium Blend mixtape, I wish they had hit me up back in March, when this dropped! DJ E$ comes correct with the cuts, and these guys not only spit well, but have a knack for picking some interesting beats. Their sense of humor is linked so closely to their skill. Wicked blend.

Mike Classic "Rookie Of The Year"

Mike Classic "Rookie Of The Year": Nice blend of ill lyrics and Auto-Tune harmonizicationing. Yes I just constructed/concocted that word. Mike is cruising right now, the bass in this one should have you open. If you're not feelin' this, you've got no pulse.

Mary J. Blige ft. Drake "The One"

Mary J. Blige ft. Drake "The One" (prod. by Darkchild): Something else leaked yesterday before Jay-Z bogarted the game. This is a club bangin', Auto-Tuned romp from Mary and Drizzy. Why Mary is using Auto-Tune is confusing - she can sing! Maybe Jay is onto something...

Props to Nah Right. And check out this Rolling Stone feature on Drake.

Fabolous ft. Jay-Z "When The Money Goes (Remix)"

Fabolous ft. Jay-Z "When The Money Goes (Remix)": Remember this? Looks like Fab ended up securing this for his album. How he only got a hook and not a 16 from Jay is beyond me, but he's spitting like he don't need no featured bars, even from the nigga who's tryna kill Auto-Tune.

MAGr No News Is Good News Cover

I hit you with the mighty B-side from MAGr, "Come Home", the other day; Dom hit me with the cover and some more info on their forthcoming album, No News Is Good News, as well as some info on the LP... "featuring appearances from Blu, Clean Guns, 2ew Gunn Ciz, Cymarshall Law and production from Hudson Mohawke, DistantStarr, Le N?ko, Erik L and Fel Sweetenberg". The artwork was done by Mars Five GFX, and looks so ill. Can't wait for this one.

Method Man & Redman "Dangerous MCs (Bossasaurus Remix)"

Method Man & Redman "Dangerous MCs (Bossasaurus Remix)": Here's a different take than the Cookin' Soul remix; bit funkier, deeper bass in this one. Works well, but in a different way. Bossasaurus is out of Oaktown and sounds like it should be boomin' from your Jeeps.

FuseBox Radio (Week of June 3, 2009)

Direct mp3 Download (right click and "save as")

Direct mp3 Download Backup (right click and "save as"; via Blip.TV)

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of June 3, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary.

This week's commentary focused on the recent so-called "reverse racist" controversy of the Sotomayor nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court, the passing of academic Dr. Ivan Van Sertima (R.I.P.) and some other things here and there.

We had a great interview with author Thembisa Mshaka about her latest book about the ins and outs of the entertainment industry for women (and just people in general) called "Put Your Dreams First: Handle Your [entertainment] Business".

Some of the topics we went over with Ms. Mshaka included how a lot of women are in the entertainment business behind the scenes, the importance of having a solid mentor for assistance in getting into the industry, the mentality of the "microwave" (a.k.a.) way to stardom and how that is false, balancing your personal and professional life and a lot of other interesting things!

Due to the length of this week's interview, we do not have new Black Agenda Report or Direct EFX segments this week.

Feel free to check out some recent episodes of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast here on - all of the shows are clean/radio friendly.

Icadon "Never Enuff"

Icadon ft. Dollarmentary & Colee Stallone "Never Enuff": Mr. Digital definitely drops on June 12th! Homey hit me with this yesterday, and I totally fucked up in not posting (long story, took a mental health day today)...dude is forever grindin'! Enjoy this one.

Happy Birthday To/From Donwill

Fun fact: Donwill has two birthdays. Hit him up and send him some love while you download the Don Cusack In High Fidelity snippets MP3 that he posted. Enjoy ya born day, homey!

End Of The Week: Brown Bag AllStars

On Day 7 of Brown Bag Season we have a video interview we did with John Public for End of The Week at Brooklyn Hip Hop Festivals Press Day.

Juan Epstein (6/4/2009)

Shouts to @soulsupreme for letting me know about this new episode of Juan Epstein. This features their intern "Billy The Kid Jr.", who interviewed John Starks on their morning show the other day. Comedy x quality.

Tanya Morgan "Bang N Boogie"

Tanya Morgan "Bang N Boogie": Has to be one of my favorite tracks. That beat had the ill break on it, but when they dropped that slick sample, I was in heaven. Early favorite off Brooklynati, trust. Gotta love those tales of, well, bangin', then being on the boogie.

Che Grand "Gold Chains Part Deux" [radio rip]

Che Grand "Gold Chains Part Deux" [radio rip]: Here's a leak from Everything's Good Ugly, taken from Che's visit to Crack Distributors Radio on the 1st of June. This one is a heatrock - I need that album!

Bonus Beats Mic Legacy ft. Journ, Che Grand & Truck North "TJ Hooker" [via Nah Right]

Full Crate ft. Versis "Make Me Laugh"

Full Crate ft. Versis "Make Me Laugh": Shouts to MOOVMNT for sending this jazzy, cool collab from Amsterdam's Full Crate and California's Versis. With the weather the way it is today in NJ, your best bet would be to roll up something good and lounge to this one.

RIP David Carradine

Damn. The early word was that David Carradine, star of Kung Fu and Kill Bill had comitted suicide, but now I'm reading that the 73-year-old actor died of natural causes in Bangkok, where he was set to film a movie. Dude was the epitome of bad ass, from being a young grasshopper to a cool old dude. Rest in peace.

EDIT BBC has picked up on the story, as has TMZ. Story's still developing...

Carradine, 73, was staying in Bangkok while shooting a movie. The film crew became aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant yesterday. When a producer went to his room, he discovered that the actor had died.

I've written about this twice already, so I'll just say this: dope Drum & Bass x Grand Hustle Hip-Hop x blended tunes x superb mixing = a win for ATL DnB DJ/enigneer DZK. Download this NOW!

Intuition & VerBS Buzz

Here's some new shit for you. Intuition & VerBS linked up for a five-track EP entitled Buzz, which I assume is to help them establish one. Both MCs have rubbed elbows with a cornucopia of Hip-Hop's finest, and linked up to bring you that raw... for free.

1. Hip No Ties (produced by Alpha MC)
2. Touch the Moon (produced by Fudd Burton)
3. What You Make It (produced by Aspect 1)
4. See Us (produced by Equalibrum)
5. Really (produced by Dibiase)
6. Live Write (produced by Alpha MC, featuring Dj MurjOne)

Tired of the same shit everyone is rockin' to? Vibe to this, guaranteed satisfaction.

[video] Wale ft. Lady GaGa "Chillin'"

I only just listened to this today, and I'm not feelin' it; homegirl sounds like she wants to be M.I.A.:

Bonus Beats Peep the behind the scenes of "Family Affair":

Apple Juice Orchestra "Abacus"

Apple Juice Orchestra "Abacus": You might remember Apple Juice Kid from his recent work with Camp Lo, 6th Sense and Tabi Bonney; he (along with a talented group of musicians) has embarked on a new phase of his work, dubbed the Apple Juice Orchestra. Jana Privette's vocals remind me of the Trip-Hop I used to fuck with back in the late 90s, but this is much more organic - not the dusty loops of Portishead or Morcheeba. Really uplifting shit, at least on this track. I can't wait to hear the rest of their album! 'Nuff respect to Jr. for this one!

Mos Def ft. Slick Rick "Auditorium"

Mos Def ft. Slick Rick "Auditorium" (prod. by Madlib): Yes, you read that right. The Boogie Man meets The Ruler over what will definitely be one of my favorite tracks of the summer. Never in my life did I think that two of the illest MCs to do it would rock together on the same cut. It sounds so effortless, too. Wikipedia states that this is set to drop on June 9th, while NME reported today that The Estatic dropping in August? Maybe its because of the leak...

EDIT Peep Stones Throw's post on The Estatic. They have this dropping on June 9th as well. I'm copping this whenever it comes out, regardless.

Ghostface Killah "Forever"

Ghostface Killah "Forever": This is the GFK I was looking for. This more than makes up for this Ron Browz-produced abortion. Ghost goes into storyteller mode, breaking down his love for his "lil' Pocahantas". Definition of real talk, just listen to it.

Props to BoBO, who says GFK's album is on the way.

SoulStice Beyond Borders LP Info

Back in November of 2008, I hit you with the DJ Denox-produced "Crash The Party" from SoulStice, which flipped remixes in different languages. It looks like homey is taking this idea a step further with his Beyond Borders album, which has a load of features from artists both stateside and from around the world. Check out the tracklist:

1.) Speed of Sound - SoulStice
2.) Chi Worldwide - SoulStice, G.L.C. (Chicago)
3.) Strange Kinda Love - SoulStice, Monique Harcum (Philly / Belgium)
4.) Unfold - SoulStice, Oddisee (Maryland), and Stef (Belgium)
5.) To The Limit - SoulStice and Brainpower (The Netherlands)
6.) Beyond Borders - SoulStice, Supastition (North Carolina) and Angelina (UK / Russia)
7.) Bird's Eye View - SoulStice and Kev Brown (Maryland)
8.) Chicago to Germany - Nico Suave (Germany)
9.) No Place Like It - SoulStice, Eternia (Canada) and Richie Filth (Ireland), and Stef (Belgium)
10.) 2 Days in Paris - SoulStice and Kohndo (France)
11.) I Found It - SoulStice, Haysoos (Maryland) and Krewcial (Belgium)
12.) Better Way - SoulStice and Wordsmith (Maryland)
13.) World Star - SoulStice, Zap Mama (Belgium / The Congo)
14.) Closer - SoulStice and Isabel Novela (Mozambique)

This concept-album drops on June 23rd, and is ENTIRELY produced by SBe (who is Belgian, mind you). Should be something special! Shouts to MAC Media for the heads up.

Cassie ft. Busta Rhymes, Day26 & Red Cafe "Must Be Love (Remix)"

Cassie ft. Busta Rhymes, Day26 & Red Cafe "Must Be Love (Remix)": I've been a champion for this track since it first leaked. When I tried to get Diddy to remove himself and put a more capable rapper on this track, I wasn't expecting Bussa Buss (he does his fucking thing, though). I really didn't want to hear SuperBitchAssNess Day26 or fucking Red Cafe ("what else?!?") on this, either. It's almost like Cassie shouldn't have been on this at all - maybe he should've thrown Busta, then Fabolous, then Jadakiss or Styles P. Do I have to A&R what could've potentially been the summer jam of 2009?

Props to Mr. X.

BOOGNIGHTS "Why So Serious?"

BOOGNIGHTS "Why So Serious?":This is either over that Fabolous track from his last album, or uses the same fire organs in it. I don't know much about dude, but if you're feeling this track, pick up his The ARTiste mixtape, which dropped in March.

Amor Jones Epic Failure

I got an e-mail from Amor Jones saying that his project, Epic Failure, wasn't going to be ready when it was previously stated it would be. I laughed at the idea of a tape called Epic Failure never coming out. I'm not a good comedian, nor do I have the energy to write a witty joke about that being funny, but you get the idea. Now get the tape, which is dope and features my boy Praverb and some seriously ill Hip-Hop delicacies.

Rowe Stussy "The Reason"

Rowe Stussy "The Reason": If there's one thing I keep doing this for, its for that New Spit. Rowe had seen me covering the cats from EMS Productions, and wanted to make sure the balance of Boston Hip-Hop was intact. Rowe is 18 years old, and isn't on that diehard Hip-Hop enthusiast in a B-Boy stance shit. Dude likes telling stories, is a bit more laidback, but you know he's seen some ish, and is poetically giving you a taste of what he's experienced. Let the pianos caress you into a cocoon, then sit back and become entranced by his music.

Santigold "Anne (King Britt Moody Mix)"

Santigold "Anne (King Britt Moody Mix)" (mirror): King Britt is a legend in Phillytown... the world over, really, but that Philly Soul that was brought to Dance music rests comfortably on his shoulders. Peep his words on this mix, one that truly lives up to its "moody" moniker:

"Santigold (Santi to me), has been a friend for a very very longtime. It has been a pleasure to see and hear her progression and success. From a killer album to touring with Kanye and Bjork to over 30 commercials on tv, Santi has hit the scene hard! She is currently in the studio with Pharell for her 2nd album.

But here, I finally present, by popular demand, my remix (or reproduction) of ‘Anne’. This song is a very heavy tune and I wanted to give Santi a very cinematic point of view. Santi loved it and we agreed to give it out. Guitars: Tim Motzer; Beats, Keys and Mixing: King Britt; Mastered by Shawn @ Optimum
So enjoy and please spread far and wide,
King Britt

Dorrough Music "Ice Cream Paint Job (DJ D Sharp Remix)"

Dorrough Music "Ice Cream Paint Job (DJ D Sharp Remix)": Been a minute since D Sharp has hit me with some flavors; this time around, he flips Dorrough's "Ice Cream Paint Job" with that classic "Ice Cream" instrumental from the purple tape. I wasn't up on the original, and I imagine I'll only listen to dude if he's over old RZA beats. This ironically works well - dude's bouncy Southern drawl of a flow works well over those pianos.
