Shouts to Michelle at audibletreats for putting me onto this cat...
K'Jon "On The Ocean"
Enjoy your weekend, fam. Keep it cool.
Slaughterhouse ft. Fatman Scoop "Onslaught 2" (prod. by Emile): August 11th came two weeks early... I'm not sure if this one bodies the original, but I mess with this, even though I'm not sure why Fatman Scoop (sans Crooklyn Clan) is on this. Ortiz FTW, by the way.
Oh, and the album sounds like just what you think it would, for good or ill. I'd do a vivid review, but Enigmatik's live-blog of his first listen mirrors my thoughts.
previous Slaughterhouse "Cuckoo"
Raekwon ft. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah & Method Man "House of Flying Daggers (radio rip)" (prod. by J Dilla): First off, shouts to Alex at Killer Beez for this one. Now, I have to be real with you - I've been getting sick of the hype Chef has been getting. I want OB4CL2, not to hear him speak on it every other day. This is more like it. Over a HYPE, driving Dilla instrumental, they revisit the "Clan In The Front" hook and see all four of these niggas wild the fuck out, lyrically. Everyone sounds like they need to. While I'm not going to bug out and think the album is God's gift before I hear it, I'm definitely rockin' with this one.

M-Dot & Grime "You Know My Steeze Freestyle": No one can explain it better than the homey Rev... "So week 12 of EMSxRTD is upon us and this week I bring to you a raw cut that screams "East Coast" from the beat the the hard boom-bap rhymes. Some of you will recognize the beat from Gangstarr's "You Know My Steeze" and M-Dot & Grime decided to bless it for a French Mixtape by DJ Quash. Check out this dope cut, I'm telling you this isn't one to miss if you are a fan of multi-syllable rhyming and hard hitting punchlines. If you enjoy this, then check out M-Dot & Grime's album "Neighborhood Knock" which was presented week 2 of EMSxRTD".
Oddisee "We On To Something": Check out the first leak from FWMJ’s Rappers I Know x Funkadelic Freestyles Volume 1: The Off Season, a mixtape that will be dropping on August 4th. This project features all new and original music from artists like Oddisee, Danny Brown, X.O., Finale, Kay of The Foundation, Che Grand, Senor Kaos & DJ Spinna, Trackademicks, Akrobatik, Mr. Lif. Christ. Dynamite MC is on it, too. Fuck. This is going to be the joint!

Should be an ill show; the CunninLynguists will be performing A Piece Of Strange in its entirety, with a band! That's gonna be worth the price of admission, trust. Make sure you check otu Strange Journey Volume One, which is available for purchase right now! 2DBz are sponsoring this, so that should be a treat.
Cymarshall Law "Run This Town Freestyle": When I posted the instrumental, I was waiting for this to hit the inbox. I see a few are flying around the Internets, but this is the first to come to me. Cymar finished the Creator's Kid EP, looking for a good situation - wait for that Creator's Craft Mix CD as well. Jersey!
This drops on August 11th, so check out the LP via this sampler... preferably w/ an L or 2.

Snoop Dogg & The TC's "Shut U Down" (prod. by Niggerachi): Oddly enough, I was just having a conversation with my nigga Junclassic about our shared love for that classic Snoop shit; ever since the Deep Cover OST, I've always enjoyed the big homey's work, and it looks like he's getting bacc in that ass with another Chuuch project. On August 4th, Bacc 2 Tha Chuuch Vol. 1 will be released digitally on Doggystyle Digital/Gangsta Grooves. The entire project is produced by Snoop (under his "Niggerachi" guise), and hopefully the entire project sounds more like this cut. There's a nice blend of familiar faces (Kurupt, Daz, Ray J, Damani, Uncle Chucc, Tha Twinz) and new artists (the Hustle Boyz, the TC’s, Tha Raw Doggz and singer Chris Starr) on this one, and is said to have "a nice blend of the vintage West Coast sound".
Shouts to Hannah for this one!
Bonus Beats Snoop Dogg "Fuck Yeaaah" [via TSS]
Myk Dyaleks "Flagrant Won" (prod. by Deal The Villain): I'm not sure what project this is earmarked for, but I know Brokn.Englsh is my shit, and Deal is the homey, so this is what we call a no-brainer. The bonus beat is another cut from Tom Chase's 100 Yard Dash mixtape that I was saving to leak on Thursday, but got leaked by Mr. C.I.O.N. Burris. Good music can't wait!
Bonus Beats Tom Chase ft. C.I.O.N. Burris "Topless Freestyle"
Theo Martins "Say It Right (Chaise Marcel Juke Remix)": Here's a quick juke retwerk of Theo's "Say It Right". You should recognize those whistles, and you should be in your car/home/cubicle, jukin' to the fast past riddims. FIYAAA!
Verse Simmonds "Buy You A Round (Up & Down)": I heard DJ Envy drop this during a Rush Hour mix last week, and got into it. I clowned on it for a bit (that rap breakdown wasn't jibbing with me), but I can't deny this one. That bass works well, and must do damage in the club when paired with that hook. I don't know much about dude, aside from him having a twitter and a Gumby, but I have a feeling that this dude will be a part of the 2nd half of the Summer. Shouts to Joso for this one.
Tom Chase ft. Deal The Villain "Catalina Wine Mixer": Here's a fresh leak from Tom Chase's 100 Yard Dash mixtape, which Deal is on the boards for, and I imagine the Elite Assembly will be featured in varying forms. Love that horn in this one. I've also got more coming from Deal, trust - this shit is far from over. 100 Yard Dash will be out VERY soon, so keep your eye peeled.
previous Tom Chase "Chase O.A."
Money First "Street Corner Niggaz": Trenton's own Money First kicks it up a notch with this anthem for the corner boys out there. I've seen a lot of niggas who hug the block like this, who aren't afraid to let two (or more) off at you. It's a fucking cold world, and if you think there aren't niggas out there who will twist your whole onion off, you're buggin'. I'm just glad I never crossed one of the homies. Shouts to Boom Blake and the goonstown.com fam for this one.
Quite Nyce "This Is My Life": Here's the 2nd leak from Nyce's Hello, My Name is Quite Nyce mixtape, which drops on August 18th. This is one sneaks up on you, and smacks the shit out of you when those hard drums drop. Expect to hear dude's name buzzin' on this site and others before his tape drops!
previous [video] Quite Nyce "I Alone"
Featuring Ryan Leslie & Keri Hilson:
Prince "Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix)": When MJ died, it made me (and others) recall that old convo that I remember having on bus rides home from school - "Michael Jackson or Prince - who's better?"... I always said Prince won, just because I messed with Purple Rain and the Batman OST something sick. Fuse is playing Purple Rain right now, and it randomly had me hit up Googs like "did the movie version of 'Let's Go Crazy' ever come out?", and guess what - it did! Wifey loves this track for his guitar solo at the end - I've seen the goose pimples, they are real. I like the offbeat interludes, from that skankin' rhythm in the middle with the random piano playing, and that entire section where they just leftfield. It's a pretty raucous track from end to end, but this version, in its damn-near eight minute glory, is definitely the one I put on FTW.
Props to PC's Music for having this version available.
RewMec "Vertical/Fly Away" (prod. by DefDom): I got an unmastered version of this a few weeks back, and was asked not to post until this final version came. This is the single from Rew's She Made Me Do It LP. If you're not up on Rew, just know he reps the Elite Assembly, as well as Division East Records, so he's dope Hip-Hop and Jersey fresh.
S&M "Losing My Religion": No, RTD didn't go kinky sex factory on you. S&M = Sarah White and M.anifest, and their forthcoming collaborative project is described as "of a soulful disposition, has futurefunk aspirations, and owes its foundation to african diasporic rythmns". Expect an EP later this year.
I've been hyping Trends' tracks for a minute - lovely mixture of Hip-Hop and "electronica", in prep for this tape. Now the Electronica/Hip-Hop hybrid is here. Listen to it and leave your thoughts.
1) Electronic Intro
2) Thinking Out Loud
3) People Get Ready
4) Until She Cums
5) It's A Fine Day
6) Your Face
7) Rainbow Convo
8) Mr. Romantic
9) Switch it Up
10) One More Time
11) Electronic Outro
Big up to Pavion.
Hans Beck "Algiers Theme Remix": Sam Han, 1/2 of Hans Beck (shouts to @charlesbeck), hit me with this wicked flip of the Battle of Algiers theme that they worked on for Daniel Sweren-Becker's Stress Positions, which is premiering at the Fringe Festival. This theme will be playing while the audience will be coming into the house, and when the curtain drops. Really interesting work - I could see this being used as part of a video game adventure, right? Throw on FF7 and get your Chocobo on (pause?)...
previous Daniel Merriweather ft. Wale "Change (Hans Beck Remix)"
Robin Thicke "Dirty It Up" (prod. by Scott Storch): So, its bad that this is the first image I got when Navjosh sent me this yesterday afternoon, right? HHNM had to take this down, but I saw an ishload of other blogs with this up, so that's a shame. Word from Nav is that this isn't going to be on Robin's new album... which is probably a good thing; sounds like a demo anyways.
Danyelliott is in the Sirius studios for the 22nd edition of the Take It Personal podcast:
What does YN make of Jay-Z’s new single? What’s Danamo’s story behind 2Pac’s classic debut? How fresh is the Wilsons’ new fridge? Can Whitney Houston make a real comeback? And is danyelliott actually co-signin’ a new Roots tune? All that and much more on another studio-recorded quality demo. Larry Flick says we got something here.

And happy belated birthday shouts to my daughter, Kalila. The world is yours.
PreZZure "A Good Album On A Bad Day": I hadn't thought about it until now, but PreZZure's CanYaFeeliT??? dropped on the same day that Michael Jackson died. Here's PreZZure's words, speaking on this thank-you track:
June 25th 2009 was a crazy day for me. I never thought after 13 weeks of freestyle commericials and promotion that the king of pop and one of the most influential people in music would die on the day I release a free album. "A Good Album On A Bad Day" is NOT a dedication record to Michael Jackson, I dedicate my music to all of those who've blessed us with their presence. This song is a thank you to everyone who has supported my music.
