Dominique Larue ft. Kim Joyce "Okay" (prod. by Illmind): Here's the first single from Larue's From Ohio With Love album; for those of you wonder where the female MC is? Hell, she's been in Ohio the whole time! From Ohio With Love is available now, and features beats from Kev Brown, J.Rawls & D\Will, and features ill verses from Cyrano, Radius and others.
Sounds like homegirl also has a mixtape with DubMD dropping in October? Ill.
A.R.M. "Slow Your Roll" (prod. by O-D): For those of you who are wondering how the Ugandan Krukid and the Ghanese M.anifest sounded when they first met, "Slow Your Roll" is what you need. I love hearing artists' jumping off points, and now to have heard where they ended up... charting growth FTW.
Tonight (9/22/09) on PBS, a documentary named Bronx Princess debuts. Blitz The Ambassador provided the score for the doc; here's a video of him in the studio, composing what became the score for Bronx Princess:
Here's what Blitz had to say about the doc:
I related to Bronx Princess because it's about a young Ghanaian-American who's trying to reconcile her growth in America with her family experiences in Ghana. So, one thing that was really important in writing and composing this score was trying to capture that authentic sound and do it how it is done back home
Shouts to Alex for this one.

Amen ft. Saigon "What You're Looking For": On September 30th, Potholes In My Blog will be dropping Queens Boulevard, an album from Amen. I've not watched more than one episode of Entourage, nor am I a big fan of Saigon, but the title is a reference to Entourage. This track is hype, though, and PIMB is fam, so keep it locked!
Via Potholes In My Blog.
Danny! "Scrambled Eggs": Although I'm being told that his Def Jux album will be out by the end of September (aka next Wednesday) by hook or by crook, but Where Is Danny? I gotta give it up to homey rapping about his breakfast. Or is he?
Now I'm hungry. As a matter of fact, with the last line of leaks from him, I've been hungry after hearing each one. Sloppy Joes for breakfast? Yes, let's. In the mean time, I'm trying to make sense of it all. Or I'm annoyed. Either way, I don't have the whole album to listen to, so really, what the fuck?
Mike Beatz "50/50": Shouts to @numonics for hitting me with this new single from Mike Beatz. This is my first time hearing this South Florida MC/producer, and I'm definitely intrigued. In a few weeks, he drops his mixtape, I'm Thirsty with the one and only DJ Absolut (and illRoots, I'm seeing), and it looks like he has a tape with DJ Young Cee dropping before that!? "50/50" will be released as a single in November on numerous digital retailers, so enjoy this sneak peek...
In support of his forthcoming album Beverly Dillz, Kosha Dillz is embarking on a tour that will start at the A3C Festival, and end up with loads of Euro dates. Check 'em out!

Mariah Carey "Inseparable": "Obsessed" was cool, but I'm no fan of "I Wanna Know What Love Is" in any incarnation. This album cut is more my speed. There's even a slight nod to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", but that mid-tempo vibe is what I like hearing MC over. With one sitting, its my favorite track, but I'm not really writing home about the album. To each their own.
Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel hits stores September 29th.
Bonus Beats Mariah Carey "More Than Just Friends"
Wordspit "Run This Town Freestyle": Lyrics are no problem for Wordspit; he attacks Jay's latest single with crazy bars. His first solo show since the release of The Coolest BBOI Stance is this Saturday (Sept. 26th) at Pink. If you're in the area Saturday, I suggest you check his show out.
Chase & Status ft. Plan B "End Credits": Following up the massive "Pieces", Chase & Status link up again with Plan B for "End Credits", which is set to be released on the soundtrack to Harry Brown, but you already knew that, right? If you check their recent Mini Mix for Annie Mac, it looks like a VIP of this will be dropping on Ram... and when you do peep that mix, get a load of that "Is It Worth It" VIP. Damage!

How I paid $50 (I know, I know) for last night's PPV event and the most exciting part of the entire 3+ hours was Shane Mosley confronting Mayweather post-fight about some alleged disrespect he felt Money May gave him:
Max Kellerman, you look like a sucker.
Sad thing is, I'd probably buy a Mayweather/Mosley fight, but I need to see something more than what piss-drinking Marquez brought last night.
Mayweather seems to be studying his time in the WWE to help him hype these fights, though.
EDIT Mayweather vs. Marquez Main Event (.avi) [via RLSLOG]
EDIT NORE ain't feeling how Shane Mosley confronted Mayweather:
Feels like he just went into the hospital for the still partially-explained accident he suffered, and now I just got word that the legendary Roc Raida has passed away. Still no official word, but I'm hearing he passed due to complications during surgery?
For now, let's remember one of the true legends behind the turntables...

Excerpt from Scratch, where you see him doing the "ninja of rap" routine Rob Swift spoke of in the previous practice session
and here's his 1996 DMC Worlds routine

EDIT HipHopDX posted a piece on Raida's passing, as has All Hip-Hop.
Here's a few of Raida's mixtapes and albums, which many cats slept-on, but were well-known for their hilarious skits, as well as their fresh cuts...

EDIT It looks like the report(s) about a possible car accident or karate class accident are inaccurate:
The source refused to give details of his illness or injury, or even the cause of Roc Raida’s death, but did state that previous reports of an injury during karate class or a car accident were inaccurate.
I wonder what the real deal is, then...
EDIT Looks like the family has given a statement:
Anthony Williams p/k to the world as The Legendary Grand Master Roc Raida has passed away unexpectedly today Sept 19 2009. He is survived by his wife, 3 lovely daughters, mother and friends. Raida was recently in an mixed martial arts accident, something that he has been practicing for several years. Although he had under gone 2 surgeries with great success, was released to an inpatient physical therapy facility and was in great spirits the past few days. This morning he started to have complications and passed. The family asks for privacy at this time.

I can't stand coffee. Hate the way it tastes. That, however, is the opposite of how I feel about this collection of instrumentals from Jinesis and Prickly Pear. There's a lot of fresh ideas on Coffee Shop 2, and you can tell that they accomplished their goal of not over-producing a track. You can tell that once they got that magical element going, they let it vibe out, as opposed to those who are continuously being meticulous, producing the soul and essence right out of their tracks. It had some things I wasn't too crazy about - its hard to listen to Prickly Pear's "You Know" and NOT think of "The Official", although the featured MCs are doing a lot more than Jaylib did, lyrically (he also revisits Dilla's "Lightworks" with "The Lights", and I'm not really feeling that, either). I'm all for reworking sounds I'm familiar with (see Jinesis' "Live At The Barbecue, Pt. 1"), but some things are better left untouched.
All-in-all, its a solid effort, and something I'd recommend for a Saturday like this... kick back with a brew, maybe on your porch, and vibe while the world crawls by.

Mary J. Blige "Said & Done" (prod. by Ryan Leslie): Over the last year or so, R. Les has been a name I've been digging. He puts his nice spin on this new MJB track. One of my favorites from her as of late - much more than "The One" and "Stronger", at least.
Props to PDS by way of HHNM.
50 Cent ft. Ester Dean "Hard Rock": Um, OK. I thought "Baby By Me" was too easy of a Billboard reach when I heard it, but damn. How you gonna try and be T.I. or whomever on the one track, then try to be will.i.am on the next? This is horrible.
"Ayo Technology" is looking like a stroke of genius right now!
Oh, this one has YOURAUDIOFIX.com drops all over it; props to Karen Civil.

Here's a lil' Ninja goodie from a decade (or so) ago...
Coldcut & Hexstatic "Timber"
Enjoy what's looking like a good weekend.
So, word pon di 'Net is that Kia Shine got some BMI cred for Drake's "Best I Ever Had" (which, by the way, is a song I'm too tired of). Here's Kinfolk on the situation:
Word? Drake stated on his blog yesterday that he "wrote the entire composition in Toronto and I borrowed one line from a Lil Wayne song that he produced the BEAT for. The claims of 25% ownership are false". Rap Radar broke it all down, just in case you're confused. I wonder why Kinfolk took the time to even speak on the claims, knowing that his case would be exposed instantly, on these here internets. And it really doesn't hurt Drake, seeing as "Best I Ever Had" has been inescapable this year.
Why would someone be grabbing a fucking Kia Shine beat CD to begin with is another convo altogether...
This cost $21 bucks, plays lil' renditions of "ABC", "Whoomp! There It Is" and other rockin' tracks, and yes it had the ill scratch sounds for the kids.
Peep game, though: my wife copped this. Go wifey! When I get home today, I might have to jack this from him.
EDIT Just found this on Amazon - the Little Tikes Pop Tunes Mixer sounds like a hit at my house. My son told me I could play with this when I got home.
Old Money "Buena Mah Muvu (Starks & Nacey Remix)": Here's your Friday wake-up call from Nouveau Richie's Starks & Nacey, retwerking a cut from Old Money's No. 1 Champion Sound EP. You know how I am about them hybrid tings - this is a nice club thumpin', reggae-tinged skanker. You ain't ready for this.
Deal The Villain keeps it consistent with this week's episode. Piggybacking on last week's "strategy"-themed episode, this week tackles the subject of "follow-through". Cotdamn if these shows aren't real talk-u-lar, and just ill. Only at rockthedub.com.

The Angel ft. Jhelisa "Ultra Light": Here's a fresh, dub-drenched treat from The Angel. The "Ultra Light" single drops on September 22nd, and features this main mix, as well as a "Sustenance Mix" and a remix from DJ Drez. This has a pretty chilling vibe to it, almost cinematic - I could see this being the soundtrack in a suspense thriller, with the femme fatale gearing up for that final fight. Word from Kevin at Supa Crucial is that The Angel's forthcoming ALBUM will differ form this, being instrumental and plunging deeper into the dub. I can't wait to check it out!

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of September 16, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary.
Our commentary this week focused on the strange imbalance of media coverage & chastisement on 3 acts of incivility by U.S. Public Figures: Producer/Rapper Kanye West, Tennis Superstar Serena Williams & Congressman Joe Wilson.
We talked about the ways both race & class played a role in this media coverage as well as giving some words on the passing of actor Patrick Swayze (R.I.P.) and some other things here and there.
There was no new episodes of the Direct EFX or Black Agenda Report segments due to the length of this week's commentary.

In 2009, if you're into Hip-Hop and own a computer, you've either tried your hand at production or are a serious producer. Knowing that, what's one thing every producer needs? Fresh sounds. In the never-ending quest to find some new sounds, I recently got the chance to check out a sample CD entitled HipHop Construction Kit, and let me tell you that this has what you're looking for. There's 8 studio-quality kits, composed from damn near 150 Hip-Hop flavored loops. For those of you trying to avoid legal trouble, all loops are royalty-free, so you can use any of these licks anyway you please. The sounds are made to be used in something like 99% of today's audio packages, so whether you use ACID or Fruity Loops, Cubase or ProTools, you can throw these sounds into your software of choice, with no problem. Check out this promo video for more details:
Now, for producers who fancy the dirty, analog sound, this pack might not be for you. I imagine you could fatten up your soul samples with many of these loops, but the sound of this pack is more commercial Hip-Hop, which can work to your advantage. Grab this pack (for the low price of £19.95, which translates to ~$40 or so), and get your freak on. Here are some MP3 demos of what you can do with this HipHop Construction Kit:
See what I'm saying? For those producers who are trying to build their sound libraries, this should be a weapon in our arsenal, especially for the reasonable price. If you're intrigued, hit up producerpack.com for more details. Shouts to Yasmine for the heads up.

Yeah, I'm not sure who he is either (although I hear he's a douchebag). Not a bad interview, kind of quick, and sounds a few months old - they speak about their Memorial Day plans. Word is the third season of Juan Epstein (Rosenberg dubs it the Geraldo Rivera season) is to be dropping soon.
