RTD Giveaway: Freaky Flow The Furious Factor

On October 13th, Furious Records released the first DJ mix CD from Freaky Flow in five years! I remember seeing Freaky Flow spin in Philly back in 2000, and for North American Drum & Bass, his name is ranked as one of the first many remember when hearing non-UK DJs. Seeing as Freaky lived in Toronto for years before relocating to Los Angeles, and his affinity for Furious releases, it made sense for these two entities to link up for a special look at Furious Records.

The Furious Factor is a dope look at Freaky's favorite Furious releases, including tunes by the Illfingas, D-Region, Division By Zero and many more Canadian DnB producers. It's a dope look at a label that many might have slept on for one reason or more. Furious linked up with Moist Music, who has given RTD a few copies of this sick mix CD to give away to the massive out there! All you have to do is send an e-mail to rockthedub@gmail.com with the subject FURIOUS FACTOR CD GIVEAWAY; be sure to include your name and mailing address. We will accept entries until Friday, October 30th. All winners will be alerted via mail.

To further whet your appetite for this mix, Division By Zero has cooked up a 30 minute mix for you to devour. Check it out!

Hi-Jynx "Never Fail" (prod. by Half Amazin'): Really feeling the samples Half threw in this one. Sounds like some shit from Kill Bill or an old Kung Fu flick. Jynx don't make no sense - that nigga sound hungry, like he missed a few years worth of meals. Shit's raw. Dunno what he has up his sleeve, but it sounds sick.

Flawless Hustle Presents Money Isn't Real

Been a long time coming for this project. Started out as a dope idea during a conference call, and branched out to a pretty sick compilation. Featuring a host of dope MCs and producers expounding on the "money isn't real" theme, this one covers a lot of ground. There's a shitload of info over on the main FH post about this, including bios on all artists involved, as well as info on the t-shirt giveaway, so download this, and get up on that!

Has-Lo "A Pimp Named Slickrap": I mentioned the other day that my external hard drive weighs a ton. That shit is a gift and a curse, though... I end up downloading shit, then not realizing I had it like 3 months later. I distinctly remember Dom P sending me this Has-Lo track back in July, but I hadn't posted it for some reason, and at last night's show at The Khyber, Has performed this live. And I was amazed. Dude's not some big boisterous nigga - he's skinny, and looks young. When he gets on that stage, though - fucking beast on the mic. Really ill presence, and he's talking some shit on that mic.

The one like L.E.G.A.C.Y. dropped off this mixtape to my inbox earlier today; its from 2005, post Project Mayhem, and rocks some Redman design. Sounds like a WIN to me. He told me a lot of this material could've/should've been on Project Mayhem, and it has a lot of features you need to get in tune with, sleepyhead ass niggas.

Angie Stone "I Ain't Hearin' U"

Angie Stone "I Ain't Hearin' U" (prod. by Angie Stone and John McClain): Here's something to wake you up on a dreary Thursday. Taken from Angie's new album, Unexpected (out on November 24th on the legendary Stax), this one features Angie's refreshing vocals over a dope, up-tempo groove. Sounds like she's telling her people that she ain't trying to hear them put down her man. Sounds like the song a chick on Maury would be singing in her head before she finds out her husband is the father.

Deal - The Villain DDi Mixtape

You guys thought we only had two Deal-centric leaks for this week? No, no. Deal does a lot. Think I'm playing? Peep this mixtape, DDi, short for "Deal Did It". Deal's not only a talented MC, but he also can flip the fuck out of a beat, and does so with a lot of the Elite Assembly clique. You already knew that, though... right? There's a number of cuts on this that you definitely knew about - including Brokn.Englsh's "Clarity", "Caveman Boogie" and others, but shit like "Royal Rumble"? I've been holding onto that one for a MINUTE, and I'm glad you guys get to experience the excellence behind that one. That's a standout for Deal's production, IMO, and one of my favorites on this project. Grab the whole thing, though. DEAL DID IIIIIIIIT!

Iron African (who reps Sweden by way of Uganda) came super correct with this first single. Hit up my post on FH for more info on this track, and the compilation as a whole, and be on the lookout for the next leak!

Proxy "Raven (Evol Intent Ravenstep VIP)"

Proxy "Raven (Evol Intent Ravenstep VIP)": The trio known as Evol Intent has been touring like crazy - I ended up missing them at EDC 2009 in LA during the Monsters of Jungle show, but I've always been a fan of their production. Imagine my surprise when their dubstep retwerking of Proxy's "Raven" landed in my inbox a few hours ago.

Had to unleash it. Moody dubstep vibes abound!

Right now, the guys are on their "Unconventional Evol" tour; if you're looking to catch them live, here are their next string of dates:

Oct 15, 2009 / New Orleans, Louisiana / Moloko
Oct 16, 2009 / Houston, Texas / Rich’s
Oct 17, 2009 / Dallas, Texas / Lizard Lounge
Oct 22, 2009 / Boston, Massachusetts / Phoenix Landing
Oct 23, 2009 / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania / Fluid Night Club
Oct 24, 2009 / Las Vegas, Nevada / Flamingo Hotel
Oct 28, 2009 / Knoxville, Tennessee / Club Catalyst
Oct 29, 2009 / Asheville, North Carolina / Club 828
Oct 30, 2009 / Winston Salem, North Carolina / The Millennium Center
Oct 31, 2009 / Richmond, Virginia / Transit
Nov 7, 2009 / Phoenix, Arizona / TBA
Nov 10, 2009 / Boulder, Colorado / Fox Theatre
Nov 13, 2009 / Fort Collins, Colorado / Hodi’s Halfnote
Nov 16, 2009 / Kansas City, Missouri / Record Bar
Nov 19, 2009 / Chicago, Illinois / Smartbar
Nov 20, 2009 / Brooklyn, New York / Exit
Nov 21, 2009 / Cincinnati, Ohio / Mad Frog
Nov 27, 2009 / Atlanta, Georgia / Masquerade
Nov 28, 2009 / Baltimore, Maryland / Fall Massive

Word is once they wrap this up, they will be heading into the studio to work on their next album, which they plan to release in 2010. Keep an eye/ear peeled for that!
