Savant The Delayed Entry EP

RAREBREED's Savant (reppin' Tuscon, AZ by way of El Paso, Tejas and Chi-town) hit me up with his debut release, an EP chock full of the balance that Hip-Hop so desparately needs. You not game enough to peep some new spit? For shame... you might be missing that next voice.

Dumhi ft. Che Grand & Donwill "Latest Act"

Dumhi ft. Che Grand & Donwill "Latest Act": The last time I featured a Dumhi track, it was with Elucid, for PIMB's last mixtape. Now I bring you part of the double-single for Dumhi's Indian Summer EP, which drops exclusively on Potholes In My Blog on October 15th, and he called on two more Lessondary spitters: Che Grizzly and Dondub. And its the motherfucking crack. Nice laid-back beats don't mean that niggas simp on the mic - this is as lyrically dexterous as they come.

Indian Summer also features Jermiside, Al Mighty, Flud and more!

Mariah Carey ft. OJ Da Juiceman, Big Boi & Gucci Mane "H.A.T.E.U. (Remix)"

Mariah Carey ft. OJ Da Juiceman, Big Boi & Gucci Mane "H.A.T.E.U. (Remix)": My wife and I were just talking about these R&B singers getting more props for remaking or singing over older beats than their own original material, and what happens? MC flips a classic ("My Boo") for the "H.A.T.E.U." remix. Is this song directed at Eminem? Barbra Streisand? Who knows.

Oh and for all the hoopla over GUCCI!, he sounds so ABC/123 on this.

Shouts to BoBO.

Brown Bag AllStars "Does It"

Brown Bag AllStars "Does It" (prod. by marink): With that chill in the air, the main thing for the cool nights is some hot music and a cold brew in a brown bag... yes, Day 26 of Brown Bag Season is upon us, and the BBAS clique links up with one producer who fits their flow so well, marink of Nature Sounds. If anything was a "sure thing", it'd be when these two worlds collide. Enjoy.

Sean Price In Philly (10/17/2009)

Next weekend in Philly is going to be off the meter. The 16th has my boy Elucid at Khyber, and the 17th now features Sean Price alongside Philly spitter Reef The Lost Cauze and the mighty Cymarshall Law at Marathon Grill! $10 at the door? Too fresh.

Lil' Wayne ft. T-Pain "Got Money (DnB Bootleg)"

Lil' Wayne ft. T-Pain "Got Money (DnB Bootleg)": Here's a bootleg on Running Cuts from this past summer - new to me. I've heard Weezy flipped in varying genres, and this has to be the worst of them all. Pretty monotonous for the majority of the song, and for as much of a flow Wayne has, they picked a pretty blah track to try and flip. You want to compliment the vocal, not try to overpower it.

Foreign Beggars ft. Guilty Simpson "Prove It"

Foreign Beggars ft. Guilty Simpson "Prove It": I hit you with the "Contact" video on Monday, and just got passed this banger from the Foreign Beggars' United Colours of Beggattron album, which is out on the 12th (although an EP is on iTunes right now, featuring the aforementioned tracks, along with "Higher"). This has a few tags in it, but its dope enough to make me want to cop it off the strength of that beat. Reminds me of when I used to scramble for Maxell tapes to record the underground shows back in the day. UK to Detroit collaboration.

Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull "Fresh Out The Oven"

Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull "Fresh Out The Oven" (prod. by The Neptunes): So I'm seeing this cut being billed as "Lola" ft. Pitbull. I remember, when J.Lo and the Geico gecko got together, his name for her was Lola. because of that, I can't call her that in good conscience. Is Jennifer channelling her inner Sasha Fierce? Who knows. What I do know is that 1) this isn't really any different than what she had been doing, and 2) why does Pitbull still get feature work? Was Flo Rida busy?

I have a feeling "Lola" will turn into some big concept album/repackaging of J.Lo for the new listeners. Only way I could even consider letting this slide is with an appropriate video.

Props to Team Supreme.

DJ Vadim at Jazz Cafe (10/15/2009)

This one is for the UK massive. Pugs Atomz will be on the mic, with Vadim and a live band? Ill. Tickets available NOW via Ticketweb.

Vandalyzm "Alone"

Vandalyzm "Alone": That "Fear" instrumental seems to make niggas open up their heart and throw some blood on the pad. Puts niggas in that zone, I guess. I remember hearing Van speak about dropping a track today on his twitter page; good to see the nigga come through with a slammer.

Shouts to irepstl.

Rob Jay Video Rob Is Dead Sampler

Rob Jay (the rap phenomenon) used to drop science, now he's on that math shit. One addition you should make is the downloading of the Video Rob Is Dead mixtape sampler to your computer. I hipped you to two of the cuts in this sampler already, and if you dug those, you need to make this a part of your life. Dude's talented. Enjoy it.

Amerie ft. Trey Songz "Pretty Brown Eyes"

Amerie ft. Trey Songz "Pretty Brown Eyes": I remember hearing heads talk about this Mint Condition-sampling cut from Amerie. This isn't bad at all - I could see this getting in regular radio rotation today, but I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. Instead of doing a true remake, they just sampled the tracks and flipped the melody. Eh.

Shouts to BoBO.

Shyne Coming Home Today?

Word on twitter, and HipHopDX, is that Shyne Po is set to be released from prison today, where he's been since the Summer of 2001.

I remember when he first came out... I don't know if his voice was too close to Biggie's, or if the loss of B.I.G. was still an open wound on my heart, but I wasn't into dude. At first. Then "Bonnie & Shyne" dropped, and was my guilty pleasure. Back then, I was Rawkus' out, Company Flow all that. That summer made me rediscover commercial Rap. And Shyne helped with that.

I won't go deep into the trial - Diddy did Shyne dirty - but we'll see what Po can do when he touches down. I've got a feeling a LOT of NY artists will be trying to get features from him. Remember how he lit up Usher's "Confessions Part II (Remix)"? I was working at AutoZone, putting up stock one Saturday, when this dropped. We had a boombox blasting that night, and I had to stop in my work and just reflect on his situation. I don't condone pulling out ratchets and squeezing off in the club, but dude is talented. And the world needs to hear his voice.

Bonus Beats "Shyne" / "More Or Less" / "Bad Boyz" / "Bang"

EDIT Shyne's being held in immigration; why is this coming up NOW!?

EDIT Now it looks like Shyne is being deported on Friday. Ain't that about a bitch?

EDIT Shyne's uncle speaks on the deportation issue.

EDIT Word from Global Grind (sup Xilla?) is that Shyne could be let out on immigration bail next week, pending his deportation trial. $2 million bail? Damn!

Junclassic "One and Onlee"

Junclassic "One and Onlee" (prod. by Husky): Here's an interesting cut from Jun's Imaginary Enemies CD, which has been getting a gaggle of great press. Dude's one of the nicest out there, and I highly recommend grabbing the disc.

Elucid at Khyber (10/16/2009)

Should be an ill event. I'm trying to get out there - yes, I am making plans to leave the war room and enjoy music with people I don't know. Elucid, Al Mighty, 5 O'Clock Shadowboxers, Has Lo and more! Shouts to Public Axis.

Hood State Of The Union Episode 5

Mike Beatz The Termination

A couple of weeks back, I hit you guys with Mike Beatz' "50/50", which is taken from this Young Cee-hosted mixtape, The Termination. I highly recommend you check dude's spit out - "50/50" convinced me, and he has a number of bangers on this collection. Shouts to @numonics for hitting me with this.

DOWNLOAD Mike Beatz The Termination

Rickie Jacobs "I Get Weak"

Rickie Jacobs "I Get Weak": This is a cut that Rickie spits on and produced. He samples a bit of Kid Cudi's "Day N Nite", but fattens it up with some nasty synths, and goes a bit more personal than you'd imagine. Big record, one you shouldn't sleep on.

[video] Raphael Saadiq "Let's Take A Walk"

[video] Nas On CNN

He's speaking on the Derrion Albert murder:

J.A.M.E.S. WATTS "Elevators (The Re-Fix)"

J.A.M.E.S. WATTS "Elevators (The Re-Fix)": Hah! I was just listening to the original this morning; forgot how much I loved this when it dropped. And I love the subject matter. Even if I'm not doing a fucking thing, I'm thinking about that next step. Constant elevation; if you can't get someone to help you, fuck you, elevate yourself.

If you're digging this, keep it locked to J.A.M.E.S.' blog.

Money First "Club Goin Crazy"

Money First "Club Goin Crazy" (prod. by ill Kayn): This is routine. Trenton, NJ's finest, and the best damn underground Rap group, Money First, steps up for some anthemic, smooth(er) club shit. I was actually surprised - I thought this was going to be more up-tempo, more club shakin', but this is more laid back in the cut, like the beat sipped a bit of the henrock out of your plastic cup. The niggas done done it again. Shouts to Boom Blake.

[video] Foreign Beggars "Contact"

Here's the official video for their "Contact" single, which is in stores today (check out this post and find out how you can win a copy of this 12" from Dogs On Acid); Noisia produced both the original and the mental DnB remix you hear at the end:

[video] T.I. "Hell Of A Life"

L.E.G.A.C.Y. "Connector Man"

L.E.G.A.C.Y. "Connector Man" (prod. by Khrysis): The word around town is that people are sleeping on L.E.G.A.C.Y.'s Suicide Music; one of the illest out, spitting over nothing but Khrysis beats? Shame on you, you snooze alarm ass niggas. This is my theme song. Blast this one LOUD, then check for Suicide Music in stores and on iTunes!

[video] Meet Who You Tweet (9/12/2009)

I saw Chip Fu going in on this, and Ka5p has posted a slew of video from the event. I'll post some select videos:
