DJ Marky - Mixmag DJ Lab (7/06/2012)

One of my favorite DnB DJs. Talk about having fun behind the decks!

Cyantific Radio: 10 Years Of Cyantific

I wanted to wait until Cyantific uploaded both parts of this special 10-year edition of Cyantific Radio, spanning a shit ton of original Cyantific tunes, alongside a bunch of remixes. Tracks with Logistics, Matrix, Tactile, Wilkinson, Kasra, Diane Charlemagne and more fill these 41 tracks. Solid set here - don't sleep! Be sure to subscribe to the Cyantific Radio podcast as well.

Tracklist(s) after the jump.

Childish Gambino ft. Danny Brown "Toxic"

Not a fan of Childish Gambino, but when I saw on twitter that skywlkr flipped the Britney Spears track "Toxic" for this one?!?! Got out of bed and downloaded this Royalty mixtape. Fans of that Trap sound will get a kick out of this beat. I'm so glad Danny kicks this one off. Almost wish there was a version with JUST Danny on this one. Banger.

St. Joe Louis x Flying Lotus - St. Joe Lotus

Nes "Trap Cannon"

Seems like we can't escape the Trap movement. Trappy Gillmore's been dropped, and it's dope, but there's a lot of - um - crap Trap out there. That's why I'm appreciative of this freebie from the FREAKSTEP camp. Nes took it upon himself to Trap out Flux Pavilion's "Bass Cannon", feeling like Waka Flocka on E. Loads of rave elements but the gun cocks take this to another zone entirely. Don't sleep!

DOWNLOAD Nes "Trap Cannon"

Ca$h Out ft. Wale "Hold Up (Disc Jockey Nappy vs. Mathew Jonson Refix)"

Forgot to throw this one out there. Ca$h Out has that melodic flavor that really works when it comes to Nappy refixing tracks. Although oddly enough, he barely goes in with the melodic shit - but I digress. This is the latest single from Ca$h, and he did the smart thing and got Wale on it. This is a pretty house-y number, featuring some Mathew Jonson. Love this.

Technical Itch + Dieselboy "Atlantic State (Gridlok Remix)"

Dieselboy's been keeping up with the #fromthevaultfridays series, dropping some sought after remixes and tunes that hadn't previously seen the light of day. I remember when the original "Atlantic State" dropped, which many said proved that Dieselboy was a competent producer (although truth be told, anyone working with Tech Itch is bound to sort out a banger). Gridlok cooked up this massive remix for Dieselboy's Human Resource project, and it bangs just as hard as it did six years ago.

Frank Ocean "Sweet Life"

After a week that included discussing what Frank Ocean's bisexuality could mean to the state of R&B/Urban Music, we almost forgot that dude's a talented artist, and Channel Orange is due out on the 17th of July. Early this afternoon he leaked this cut from the album, and my Lord. Beautiful tune. It's got his open/honest/elusive lyricism atop some chilled insturmentation (co-produced by Pharrell)... the shit is just summertime cool. Sip some mint julep and think on that life to this. Then set your DVR's for Frank's Jimmy Fallon debut, which goes down this Monday (July 9th). Maybe Frank and The Roots will play this one?!

A (2)Dope Podcast (7/04/2012)

Meka done done it again. Due to being sign on the 4th of July, he had forgone his plans and cooked up this mix. Features some personal favorites, like Danny Brown's "Guitar Solo", Sam Sneed's "U Betta Recognize" and "Hay" by Crucial Conflict. My kind of shit to ride out to.

Tommie Chase - Slicetape

Sort of a prelude to the St. Joe Lotus EP that drops tomorrow, Tommie Chase leaked this Slicetape on your asses. Word from him is that he "was just in a zone while I was doing this tape! I decided to grab a few of my favorite beats and I tried to body every beat I found it. I tried to put some original production on the mixtape to showcase some of my songwriting but for the most part I wanted to give that real mixtape feeling not a street album feeling - that's pretty much it".

J-Zone @ Mobile Mondays (7/09/2012)

Word from J-Zone is that this night will be nothing but 45s of Kool & The Gang. Dope ass tribute. 9PM to 2AM. If you know Zone, you know he's a true digger, so expect some K&TG that you ain't een UP ON!

[preview] Friske & Perpetuum "Step Up (Zardonic Remix)"

Dieselboy has lined up a remix EP of cuts from his Substance D compilation that dropped a four years back (here's my four-year old review of it). This tune from Friske and Perpetuum (WHATTUP PERP) was probably my favorite cut from the entire project, and it looks like one of DOA's success stories, Zardonic, was given the reigns to remix this one. The original had the best Milk D sample in a DnB tune, and Zardonic made sure to keep that in tact. He doesn't stray from the upfront vibe of the original, but he adds a lot of meat and preservatives to this one. Still a funky number. This one is out now on Beatport (as an exclusive, I believe), so go grab that.

YC The Cynic ft. tUnE-yArDs "Night Thoughts"

On the 10th of July, YC The Cynic & Yuri Beats will be dropping their Good Morning, Midnight EP in conjunction with 2DopeBoyz and Rot10 Musik. As you can see, there's a release party at Public Assembly with YC performing alongside Nitty Scott, MC, Maffew Ragazino, Chaundon and more, hosted by Soul Khan. $10 cover. Go there, bitch. And grab the third leak from this EP, with YellowCake rhyming alongside tUnE-yArDs.

[preview] ƱZ "ŤɌ∆Ҏ ᶊῌῗ† √11"

I just realized that I've not heard Trap Shit v10 ŤɌ∆Ҏ ᶊῌῗ† √10, but the 11th of ƱZ's excursion into Trap EDM dominance recently got some love on Diplo's Diplo & Friends mixshow on BBC Radio 1Xtra. As per usual, it puts anything else these cats are calling "Trap" to shame. And still makes me wonder where these hipster fans were three years ago when real Rap songs with these beats were getting released. Oh, right, they were dissing the shit out of it. My fault.

[preview] DJ Marky "You Know"

I'd never realized that Marky's never put out any solo tunes. He's made such magic with guys like XRS, Makoto, Total Science, S.P.Y and others that it's never crossed my mind. Plus, he's one of the most engaging DJs in the game. Word is he'll be dropping his first ever solo release on the 30th of July (although he's had a few tunes that are credited solely to him). Looks like this'll also mark release #50 on Innerground. I've heard this one in the mix over the last few months, and it's the perfect kind of summertime vibe I need right now.

DOA: 06.2012 (mixed by Disc Jockey Nappy)

While DJ Nappy is my boy and has been for the better part of 13 years or so, I can't help but continuously be proud and excited when he sends me fire mixes. This is the halfway mark of his 2012 monthly DnB mixes for Dogs On Acid, and either the releases in June perfectly captured what this Summer should sound like, or he has the Summer dancefloor vibes on his mind when he went through the DOA promos we got this month. Featured bits from Gridlok, RUN DMT, LSB, Culture Shock, Mutated Forms, Optiv & BTK, 2DB and plenty more. That cut "Haywire" is the one, trust me! Full details HERE, including full download of the set and details on what Nappy's been up to in June. This might be the one for your Fourth of July party, believe me!

Nas ft. Large Professor "Loco-Motive"

Hells yeah. Life Is Good sounds like it'll be a pretty fucking solid album. I keep waiting for one of these leaks to be ass, but I'm pleasantly surprised everytime I hit play. This one finds Nas and Large Pro linking up over a plodding track. Sounds like a cut you'd blast loud in your headphones on that nightrain (not OFF that nightrain). No I.D. FTW. Nas' imagery is crazy - the line about pulling the skin off the roof of his mouth because he ate a pizza slice that was too hot? I hate that shit! Life Is Good drops July 17th - you need that.

Mr. Joseph - The Juices Vol. 2 Promo Mix

One of my dreams has always been to put together an all-Black EDM compilation. Never came to fruition. Still and all, I randomly believe in Black EDM producers. Just something I do. In any case, check this mix from Fizzy Beats' own Mr. Joseph, mixing it up for The Juices Vol. 2 compilation, which is out now! Oh my, that means that Sevin's "The Heat" remix is available!

SKisM & DC Breaks ft. Dee Freer "Killer"

Enjoy this freebie from Never Say Die records and SKisM. This is the first part of The Division Series, which will feature an original tune alongside a remix over the next six months (reminds me of the 12's Higher Education was putting out in 2000, or how Demand was doing with their first three releases last year). Word is future collaborations will feature Zomboy, with remixes from Tantrum Desire, Crush, xKore, TC and Dirtyloud. This first release is a heavyweight slice of dubstep pie featuring none other than DC Breaks; remixes on this release include Tantrum Desire with a Drum & Bass banger b/w an Electro ting from Crush. Single is due out July 16th. This one is available for free via Facebook, grab that!
