RTD Playlist (2/28/2016)

This week's playlist is a mixed bag, true believers. Not only do we get remixes of Kanye West cuts from DJ Premier and Ticklish, but we have new material from Bad Company UK, Black Collar Biz, David Heartbreak, Baauer, and Shiftee.

Also included are mixes from Mister Shifter and Spooky, as well as a throwback freestyle from Ol Dirty Bastard. From hip-hop to footwork, we're beating you over the head, weekly.

Black Collar Biz ft. Sunny McKoy - "Issues In My City"

The homey Black Collar Biz picked up one of my favorite Poor Righteous Teachers instrumentals to speak about the nonsense going on in the city of Trenton. Sometimes you need to just open up a window, survey your city, and keep it 100.

Kanye West - "I Love Kanye (T.L.O.Preemix)"

Kind of wish this instrumental was out there by itself, but you have to respect DJ Premier wanting to clothe a naked acapella.

Bad Company UK - "Equilibrium"

It's been a while since Bad Company UK linked back up, but they made good on their promise for new material, and this track "Equilibrium" is a serious return to form. You can stream the tune below, and grab it for free on the newly-revitalized Dogs On Acid.

This is later than I normally post, but this weekend's been a mother, including finally booting up a new PC. We're back with a fresh playlist, though, featuring a new mix from DJ Craze & Four Color Zack, new remixes from Stwo and Swindle, and new material from KOTA The Friend, Ding, DJ Earl, DJ Pound, and more. All shapes and sounds.

DJ Pound - "Trades"

It's been a few years since I got introduced to (and interviewed) Cali's own DJ Pound. It was because of the Seclusiasis squad that I knew who he was, and it's dope to see that DJ Shadow has put the stamp on his new material.

The third "digital dubplate" from Shadow's Liquid Amber imprint, "Trades" gets all kinds of bubbly futuristic, marrying a hypnotic hip-hop-drenched instrumental with some quick footwork-influenced fills. This one is just thick af. Snag this one, then be on the lookout for his rumored EP for SATURATE. Turn up.

J Dilla - "The Introduction"

Remember that Pay Jay bootleg album that surfaced some years back? It's finally getting released as The Diary on April 15 (pre-order on iTunes and vinyl today). If you have 5011 minutes to spare, check out this interview on Rolling Stone about how the album came to fruition. For now, dig into "The Introduction," a cut produced by House Shoes that highlights why Dilla was a problem on the mic.

DJ Craze and Four Color Zack Are Back With More of Their '2¢'

Back in September of 2015, DJ Craze and Four Color Zack let me drop their mix over on Complex, and earlier this week, we linked back up for round 2. Their mixes aren't just 30+ minute workout sets; they're dropping social commentary in these ill routines, and part 2 takes aim at the growing L.A. DJ problem, Bill Cosby, and those wack dances that creep up in the rap scene. Turntablism fans, turn up to this.

Stream below, and download via Mediafire.

DJ Earl - "I Been"

Newest latest from TEKLIFE's own DJ Earl. All you need to know, really.

Kanye West - "Fade (Gant-Man Remix)"

I can't front; I was waiting for this. Chicago juke master Gant-Man has been good with these quick Jay Z/Kanye West reworks, and "Fade" is pure soulful house music with a hip-hop swagger to it. Those classic samples were itching for a proper rework, and Gant's done the damn thing with his take.

Lord know show long this will stay on SoundCloud, so grab this DJ tool from Mediafire with the quickness.

A lot went on this week, featuring everything from the 10th anniversary of J Dilla's passing and Kanye West finally dropping The Life of Pablo to the release of Deadpool and today, which is Valentine's Day. This week reflects a bit of that; there's the Soulection Dilla tribute show, Hudson Mohawke's ninth "Slow Jams" tape, new G.O.O.D. Music signee Desiigner's "Panda," and some new features from Danny Brown, Tanya Morgan, and more. Love this.

Trying to understand how powerful the grime scene is in 2016? Interested in how it compares to the dancehall riddim scene? Listen to the first four minutes of Terror Danjah's new set for Solid Steel. Dope to hear heads going in on that "Juicy Patty" riddim, and after that it's just tune fi tune fi tune. Slew dem, then cop Terror Danjah's new single; it's well wicked.

Soul Khan - "Shine"

Dope to hear new J57-produced Soul Khan material that doesn't sound like anything they normally drop. There's truly no shame in your shine, so life your life and strive to do better...then cop the single.

This hit me some type of way. Reminds me of what got me into Odd Future, minus the macabre teen boy fantasies.
