the shuffle. [9/2/06].

Another Saturday night... loads of new tunes, nice cool weather, and a sixer of Heineken Light. This brew is not bad at all --- for the Heineken nut I am, the taste is not that off from the regular Heineken. There is a bit of an after-taste, but I highly recommend this for those who want that great taste without the calories.

Wifey and I finally got my son's heartbeat recorded to the PC, thanks to BébéSounds. It's essentially a radio-frequency mic that pics up the sounds, kind of like an unharmful ultrasound would. I will be uploading the .wav file soon for consumption. So proud.

Oh, I caught Act I of Spike Lee's When The Levees Broke, and it's a great piece of film. It's a standard documentary, but if you ever wanted to learn more about Hurricane Katrina and it's impact on the Gulf States, check it out.

In any case, this week was a doozy on the news, but with the VMAs and other nonsense, we've got some nice pieces to share.

01/During the VMAs, Mos Def got arrested outside of Radio City Music Hall, during an impromptu of his track "Katrina Klap". Word is that Mos had a flatbed pull up outside of the VMAs and was asked if he had a permit. Of course the nigga ain't have one, so they let him finish the track, and proceeded to haul him to jail. His crew says he shut down the performance when he heard of the cops' presence, but they overreacted and took him in. They say video was taken that night, and it will be published somewhere soon (YouTube?), so we'll keep eyes peeled for that.

02/Speaking of the VMAs, I do have one gripe. For the last few years, the Rock artists have always alluded to being proud that there is still a "place for Rock" on MTV, as if the channel is 24/7 Rap & R&B. Now, keep in mind, that guys like James Blunt were winning that night; Panic! At The Disco got mad play as well. Fall Out Boy, Jack White and his house band played in and out of EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK, and they even had the nerve to bring out Axl Rose AND Lou Reed's wrinkled ass on the air, for God knows what reason, but I am to feel sorry for these guys who think MTV has no place for Rock? MTV IS A ROCK STATION THAT HAPPENS TO PLAY URBAN MUSIC. Don't get it twisted. Sucker Free Sunday is one thing; the rest of the week is Emo nonsense, Jared Leto's creepy looking band, and Pop. Give me a fucking break, place for Rock.

03/For a Hip-Hop spin on things, XXL Mag decided to let the world know some of the Rap videos MTV has banned, and why. It's all Rap, varying from things like Public Enemy's "By The Time I Get To Arizona" to The Pack's "Vans". Check it out.

04/Who knew that Chris Tucker spent the last 5 years doing kid's charity? This week, he spoke on where he's been, his upcoming comedy tour, and the start of shooting on Rush Hour 3, which begins on Sept. 25th in Paris (how that fits into the story, who knows). I do think it's kind of odd that he said Ice Cube wanted to pay him in CDs for Friday sequels, but I would have walked away from that, too. Fucking #25 million for RH3? Smart man...

05/As of right now, you guys feel as though the White People are going to win the Survivor Race War. You can still vote, so please do. Let the world know how you feel... I still say the Whites will win, but who knows!

06/Fucking US b-ball team won a Bronze in the World Championships. They let Greece smack them the other night, which disappointed me, since they were murking any and everyone in the previous games. At least they did better than the team 2 years ago. Is 'Melo set to keep that pace going when the regular season comes to pass? Let's hope so!

07/After all of the bullshit, lies and king prawn, John Mark Karr's DNA did not match, so the charges got dropped. I knew it all along, for his story was being refuted by everyone in his family, but you know, DNA is the final straw. That's not what got me ticked off at this pussy, though... did you hear that, not only has he written a manuscript that he wishes becomes a movie, in which he wants to Johnny Depp to portray him? What kind of shit... it's like he kept this nonsense going for years, just to get some fame. He sure got that infamy, but sick pricks like that only deserve the infamy. I hope he gets arrested doing some foul shit and gets fucked hard.

08/Digital music has had a few nutty turns this week; to put it another way, album sales look like they will primarily be left up to mp3 purchases, and not CD buys. Big buzz was made this week when a company called Spiral Frog is set to start offering downloads for free, initially with the entire Universal Music Group catalog. The thing is, they are going to be giving the files away with DRM protection, which was recently breeched by some skilled hackers. (In a nutshell, DRM, or digital rights management, makes it hard to copy the music file to CD or other PCs). Microsoft was already set to patch up the DRM holes, but kept it on the DL for some odd reason. The cracks, dubbed Fairuse, also spread to Apple and iTunes, which is just nuts. This should be a strong concern to the record labels, who try to give away music but with the bullshit strings attached (no copying, not really owning them like with Rhapshody)... they need to wake up and realize that niggas will TAKE if they feel they are getting ripped. In other news, which kind of bothered me, Linkin Park has finally let iTunes get access to their albums. I find this odd because LP is so heavy on the web to begin with. *Sigh* someday, these lames will get it...

09/Online readers, Google is changing the online book game! They are letting books be available for FREE, in easy to read and dload .pdf files. As of right now, the selection is full of out-of-copyright books, but word is shit like Dante's "Inferno" and "Hamlet" are available. Check out Google Book Search and get ya read on!

10/Eminem "pranks" this playmate Kendra Wilkinson on the set of this video... *yawn*, right? She looks a bit like Kim, but cuter, but still, skank heaven. She cried about this on some blog she has, but it was taken down a day or so later... in any case, he was nice to her at one point, but then went mean and poured water on her head. I guess them's the breaks, but why Em? What was really good? You wylin' out on those sleeping pills again?

11/Dave Chappelle says he's happy he left Chappelle's Show, even if it does not make sense economically. Well, Dave, I'm downright frustrated. I defended you when you left, but you came back and with each subsequent interview, you had a new reason for leaving tacked on. I was going to review your shows, but 3 posts full of "this shit is trash" seemed counter-productive. I do think it's fucked that Comedy Central aired unfinished shows, but some of that shit did hit the spot. You are missed, nigga... you could have done so much more with that show. Now I can only hope that Paul Mooney gets a TV show. "Negrodamus: The Series"? I'd love to see this every week.

12/There has been a shitload of Pop albums coming out recently, but that does not mean that Rap is gone! Ludacris is set to drop his latest album, Release Therapy, Sept. 26th. This seems to be his most personal yet... even if he is biting off of Busta's formula. Busta cuts his hair, Luda cuts his hair. Busta gets personal, Luda gets personal. Hopefully, Luda will go gold... I don't think Busta has even hit 450K yet! In other news, Fat Joe avoided the Koch by signing to Virgin for his next album, Me, Myself & I. Maybe this means I can get more Fat Joe ringtones for my cell? In a sign of the apocalypse, Kevin Federline scored a record deal! Sony/BMG signed K-Fed's Federation Records label to a deal, so this fruitloop can drop his Playing With Fire (odd choice of title) album on the masses. Does anyone think this wonder bread bastard can do it right? And what happened to the Jive rumors?

13/In the 1 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, All Hip-Hop interviewed Kevin Powell, a man who went from that "crazy black guy" on the first season of The Real World to an acclaimed writer for Vibe magazine to a figurehead for the community. Parts 1 and 2 are both captivating and real. Shouts to Kevin for doing it his way.

14/I wonder who the poor souls were that got ripped off by some Barbra Streisand scammers. Online scams are definitely common, but these fuckers HAD to be some upper-scale cats, cats who thought they were getting a good look and got ripped. Once the lawyers come out, some new precidents might be coming out. My suggestion: know who the fuck you are buying from.

15/Donald Trump fired one of his favored workers, Carolyn Kepcher, for basically doing what contestants on The Apprentice do: fuck up their jobs when in the spotlight. Word is she was doing crazy inspirational speeches and slacking on her golf course macking. I heard words of her trying to "be a star", but I think she just got caught up on tours while not staying on point. Ivanka is replacing her, and while she is great to look at, does not match up to Carolyn's wit and no-nonsense comments. My prediction: Carolyn has a new show in the near future.

16/Lil' Kim is on the hot seat over some lyrics. Word is that reggae artist Tanya Stephens was called in to do some lyrics years ago, but they never made it to CD. Then, Kim supposedly jacked her vocals for a track entitled "Durty" on The Naked Truth. Tanya wants ownership of the song, as well as past and future royalties... um, didn't her lawyers tell her that Kim did no numbers on that album? Maybe her next lawsuit will be a smarter choice of song/artist...

17/Nobody touched Foxxy Brown's week, however. This deaf chick had the worst week ever by far. Not only did she have trouble withdrawing her guilty plea on some misdemeanor assault charges, she also almost ran over a 17 year old! The straw broke the camel's back when word is that this dizzy bitch stole 2 belts... yes, belts! They were $400 a piece, but belts? Jigga couldn't front you 800 bones for some belts? The owner of the store is pressing charges, even saying that he is "making an example" of her, but really, belts, Fox? We need to start a "buy Fox some belts" fund...

I leave you guys with 2 things... first, with the help for my SBK niggas, I will be able to host some exclusive audio bits (MP3s and shit) for your listening pleasure... more on that soon.

I also want to leave you with Beyonce's explosive performance from the 2006 VMAs... hot pants and all. I didn't like this track until this performance... 1.
