Whitefolkz ft. DC Don Juan "Call A Penalty"

For some reason, I've been sitting on this track for almost two weeks. The boy Whitefolkz has been putting it down, and always knows how to come with some shit I can rock to, even if I don't think it's more of my speed. It's funny, I could see dude at LEAST being a regional favorite because of tracks like this. This bangs just as hard as a number of cuts that have to be cluttering radio in the South. It's catchy as FUCK, and hell, I could see some chicks rockin' to this one. Nice play on "charging", too. Might not be your speed if you're looking for something deep and intellectual - this one is more for stuntin' and ballin', I guess. Word is Folkz and Juan are working on an album, and this is the first taste of it. I have a few other cuts Folkz is affiliated with for you as well...

Wordsmith "Rhymesayer Revivial"

I'm telling you, the work I was doing when interviewing cats like Wordsmith years back are the direct reason why rockthedub is even in existence, so I have to give him all the props. He might not realize what that work did for me and my focus. In any case, Words brings a laidback beat into new light, turning this revival into something more - this feels more like a mission statement, laying the foundation of what he's about when he goes into these numerous projects. This is another jawn from his King Noah mixtape, which soundsl ike it might be something you Internets come latelies need to be waiting on.

Wordsmith "Grudges & Growing Pains"

Wordsmith "Grudges & Growing Pains" (prod. by Benny Rome):You know what happens when them horns come out... Wordsmith has allowed his Nu Revolution crew to shine, but he's back with his next tape, King Noah, addressing a number of social issues, from homophobia to racism and politics. There's a lot of hatred out there, no doubt, but you haters need a fucking hobby, forreal. Try rapping - even though you won't match what the homey Words has going on. Bmore through your door.

Kontact & Black Knight ft. Wordsmith, K. Sparks, Rickie Jacobs & Tese Fever "Mic Checka

Kontact & Black Knight ft. Wordsmith, K. Sparks, Rickie Jacobs & Tese Fever "Mic Checka" (prod. by Certified): Gotta love Das EFX samples, even if I’m not sold on that fuzzy bass used in this. On their third single, Tact n Black call in for back-up, with Bmore instrumental murderers like Wordsmith and Rickie Jacobs to lay some heat on this one. Good to hear how each MC rides this beat – they do their own thing, but it doesn’t sound too hectic or confusing. I’d say after this, your mic has been thoroughly checked. Pause.

Kontact & Black Knight “Free”

Kontact & Black KnightFree” (prod. by Benny Rome): Took long enough, but it looks like Wordsmith’s Nu Revolution camp is going in with their own project. Tact N Black have their Eye Of The Storm mixtape dropping on July 25th, and they released this first leak, which works wonders. Not to say you wouldn’t know who these two cats are, but with a dude on his grind like Words is, it can be difficult to get them their own spot, so after putting on Whitefolkz, it makes sense for these two to get theirs. Rome’s cooked up a banger for them, and they ride that shit to perfection. Great intro.

Kontact & Black Knight "Round of Applause"

Kontact & Black Knight "Round of Applause" (prod. by Certified): Here’s the first leak from NU Revolution soldiers Kon and Black, who are getting the promo game for their Eye of the Storm mixtape, which is due out on the 13th of June. If you have rocked with rockthedub for these years, and kept yourselves abreast of Wordsmith’s material, you’ve heard both these cats – repeatedly. This is one of those tracks that you’d likely hear at the beginning of their stage show, getting the crowd HYPE and ready for the proceedings. Solid work.

Whitefolkz Year of the Dogg

LinkAfter building MAD anticipation, the NU Revolution camp has brought forth Whitefolkz' new mixtape, Year of the Dogg, showing the multifaceted fury that 'Folkz brings to the game. I personally dig that he does the majority of this dolo - aside from a pair of posse cuts and a Pro'Verb feature, this 12-track release is an all-'Folkz party. He brings some boisterous banger, some more sentimental songs and some skraight up Club smashers. Dude's got it on lock - this could definitely be his year! Don't sleep!

Whitefolkz "Blue Skies"

Whitefolkz "Blue Skies" (prod. by Benny Rome): I won’t front – I didn’t know what was going on when this track first kicked in. Feels like Whitefolkz used to dabble in that (def) poetry, as he goes into a different zone, breaking down thoughts as his phone rings, before the Benny Rome bass kicks in and homey kicks it up a notch. There’s a lot going on here, lyrically, bouncing thoughts on his people to plans on making scrilla, ‘Folkz has a lot going on. This second leak from Year of the Dogg shows Whitefolkz’ range, which I’m glad to see.
