Prince - "17 Days (DJ Michael Watts Remix)"

Prince's death has hit me some type of way. I'm not really trying to write about it at length, nor do I feel like I should. My love for the music he's made started out as a personal thing, primarily because people loved Michael Jackson more, and I knew Prince was iller. I just knew it, so I just kept my tapes and CDs to self. It made sense; always felt like Prince was more of an introspective guy, even if he was trying to fuck the club up with tracks like "Erotic City."

So instead of going ham on what Prince really means to me, I'll just blast Michael Watts' chopped & screwed "17 Days," which was a "When Doves Cry" flipside. RIP.



He hasn't stopped there, though...

DJ Premier Dropped a Very Different Mix for Diplo & Friends

File this new DJ Premier mix under "definitely not what you'd expect." It's funny; back in March of 2013, Avicii dropped a surprising set for Diplo & Friends, featuring everything from Smokey Robinson to Foreigner. Preemo has done something similar with his hour, spending damn near 37 minutes throwing in a number of pop and rock JAMS before throwing down some hip-hop.

The best part? This was done as a part of Radio 1's "Hip-Hop Month." You can stream the full set down below.

No Doubt "Settle Down (Major Lazer Remix)"

In my household, my wife and I have similar tastes in music. We differ on some shit - I fucks with DnB, while No Doubt and John Mayer get just as much play from her. I imagine this Major Lazer remix of No Doubt's latest single would have us meeting in the middle. Throwing a crowd-rocking Moombahton flex to Gwen's vocal, making this one work well on the floors. Word is this is the first of five remixes to debut from No Doubt in the very near future, with their Push and Shove album set to drop September 25th. The Moombahton sound isn't my normal thing, but after hitting the Mad Decent Block Party last weekend, I can't help it. You know I'm a freak for remixes of Pop tracks. Fuck you want?!

Still not sure what brought this remix about, but I'm fucking loving it. Colin Munroe is co-signing it, and this can be yours for a tweet. The Zeds Dead remix of this one is intense - they inject the right amount of emotion into that bass, really making this one feel like an uphill climb for survival. Anthemic business, I hope you DJs are paying attention.

I have some guilty pleasures. JoJo's voice is one of them. I always messed with her, but when I heard her start remaking Drake tracks, I knew there was more to her than the Pop she was being given.
