Signif x KnowSum "Let's Figure It Out": Whoa! I just flipped a Signif/Gee Wiz track yesterday, and get this snappy number for Sig and this cat KnowSum. I love the vocal bass thing he has going on here, with the strings starting and stopping? Tough. Not sure if this is really going to be going anywhere – but knowing Sig, she’s going to make more happen with dude. She weaves a crazy tale, sounds like the kiss-off to a wild relationship on the side of someone who gets cut off before their lover leaves. Fuck ‘em though, right? SigNif "Wish Her Well" (prod. by Gee Wiz): Love how Wiz and Sig have heat like this, after sorting out a dynamic EP like Significant Wizdom. Wiz has those beats that you can smell on the SPOT, knowing full well they’re going to be fantastic. Has that bounce and that screwface factor that are ready to get you cats fucked the fuck up. Sig keeps it sharp with her bars, letting you know why she should be in your “my favorite MC is…” conversation(s). Word is a video for “S.I.G.M.A.T.A.” is on the way, so be on the lookout for that, but blast this during these forthcoming scorching summer nights.SigNif Significant Wizdom
I love EPs that feature one MC and one producer really exploring each other. NYC (by way of Milly Waukee) spitter SigNif linked up with producer Gee Wiz for this eight-track exercise, and I’m in heaven. I loved “Round Here”, but had no idea they were flippin’ a full project together. Shit isn’t that long, either – just under 22 minutes, Sig sinks deep into each instrumental, and really squeezes out the rawness from her pen. Love how tough she is, too – a lot of female MCs are coming on the underground right now, but not a lot of them attack their words the way Sig does. Ferocious is probably one of the better words I’d use to describe it. Whether it’s real life or just expressing her skill, she can do a lot, and Wiz is the perfect producer for her brand of spittery. “Ready4War” is the shit. Trust.DOWNLOAD SigNif Significant Wizdom

Respect to the REUP crew for providing a mixtape featuring nothing but female spitters. We all feel the void within the game – not really sure what the problem is. I could say that “the industry only fucks with Nicki Minaj/Lil Kim types”, but that’s not how it always was. I grew up in an era where a Yo-Yo video would be in constant rotation, as well as ladies like Isis, Queen Latifah, Miss Melody, Monie Love, MC Lyte and PLENTY more. Over the last couple of years, though, we’ve seen a number of ill women getting love for their talent, many of whom are featured on this project, including L.A., Dominique Larue, RAtheMC, SigNif, Syren and even a special jam from the one and only Rah Digga. Signif ft. Phil G & Haz Solo "Round Here": Lovin’ the beat here – reminds me of the way Tricky would sample shit. Keeping random noises in there (sounds like a chick is inhaling towards the end of the loop), and the bounce thrown in with the more hypnotic feel is so necessary. Kind of surprised how hardcore these three bring it – wasn’t expected, gun cocks and all. This is taken from Sig’s Significant Wi(z)dom EP, which is due out later this month. AUTOMatic Music ft. Signif "Fresh Dressed": I’m loving this winter-friendly Hip-Hop coming along. This is some shit to rock to on the bus stop, waiting for the city bus in the early morning, sun just peeking over the buildings in the city. AUTOMatic has Transistor: The Last Broadcast, and drops this cut with Signif to promote their future works. She’s gotten ‘nuff play on RTD, and with good reason.
