A-Trak Releases '90s Backpacker Rap Set

For Boiler Room's MIXTAPE series, they decided to get A-Trak to drop a guest mix, in which he took it back to the '90s for a special backpack rap set. Loads of '90s NYC hip-hop, from MF Doom and Mos Def to J-Live and CRU, among many more. Recently, Boiler Room shared the video for the set, but it was unfortunately it was only half of the set!



A-Trak, being the stand-up dude that he is, had the full audio from the set, and decided to share it via SoundCloud. Anyone rocking with this site should know what time it is with the tracklist, which is below. Perfect Sunday house cleaning (or weed smoking) material.

A-Trak Kicks Off 2017 With a New Mix, "Cut It Out!"

There's no better way to kick off a new year than with a fire new mix, right? Enter A-Trak, who's assembled his first mix of 2017. On "Cut It Out!," Trizzy finds a way to drop 53(!) tracks that span a number of genres (featuring material from A Tribe Called Quest, Detroit Swindle, 24hrs, deadmau5, Plump DJs, and plenty more) in a 74-minute time span. His sound and production might be more EDM-focused over the last few years, but he's clearly on some "all genres" shit, at least for this particular mix.

A-Trak Helps Us "Process These Emotions" With New "Music Heals" Mix

A-Trak, being the supreme DJ that he is, knows that music is the healing of the nation. With that knowledge, he sorted out a magical 30-minute mix the day after the election. This isn't an EDM anthem-bang or a throwback hip-hop fest; he selected classics like Faze-O's "Riding High," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," and "Love Is The Message" by MFSB.

He also left a dope note: "Nov 9, 2016. Day after the election. Music helps me process these emotions. Hope it does the same for you."

A-Trak Breaks Down His DJ History on Juan Epstein

I'm not sure WHY, but this weekend I got deep into some Invisibl Skratch Piklz shit. Nothing truly prompted it, but I just had to relive some of those turntablism days. Of course it's after that that I heard that Q-Bert, D-Styles, and Shortkut linked back up to create the first ISP album in 20 years. Damn.

ANYWAYS, this made me dip back into A-Trak's appearance on Juan Epstein from a few weeks back. He goes ham on the history, letting you know how he got into shit, his favorite albums, how much he was making off of DJ records, and so much more. A-Trak and Craze Played a Two-Hour Hip-Hop Set During HOLY SHIP 2015

With the HOLY SHIP! festival catering to the EDM set, it's not normal to hear many full-on hip-hop sets in that environment. Turntablist champions A-Trak and Craze, who were both a part of the Allies before "EDM" turned into a widely used term, went back-to-back for two hours, dropping nothing but rap on that ass. We're talking Lil Wayne's "Go DJ," old Outkast, Busta Rhymes, NORE, Nas, and so much more. It's fire for your Super Bowl party, trust we.
