BHM2K8: Pharrell - Busy Or Dirty?

We know Skateboard P does production and fashion and all of this other stuff. After seeing this post over at black soap palace, though, I have to wonder: is he not changing his clothes b/c he is so busy traveling, or is he just a dirty ghetto kid (no Stevie Williams)?

BHM2K8: Dyson Vs. Cosby

Looks like Michael Eric Dyson is set to drop a Hip-Hop album to respond to Bill Cosby's State of Emergency CD:

“There’s nothing worse than a comedian that’s trying to be serious on a certain level. That could be hazardous to your career. And to your health,” Dyson, 49, told AllHipHop.com

Yo, is Dyson going at the Coz on some 50 Cent shit? I hope so - I can only imagine Dyson's end-of-the-track banter.

BHM2K8: Comedian P

I'm all for niggas who started something getting their props. "'Nuff respect due" is something that means a lot to me, regardless of the situation. But, when Eskay posted this diatribe Prodigy threw up on his blog about what he and Mobb Deep started and don't get recognized for, I had to laugh...

I'm supposed to big you up for having tatoos on your body since age 12? Rapping non-rhyming words (isn't that called spoken word?), fucking bandana folding? Is this forreal? Nigga, not only do you have sickle-cell, but you are about to get sent up for a 3 1/2 year bid, and you want to argue who used the name "Prodigy" first? And to be real with you, The Prodigy was using that name since 1990, so what the fuck are you on? The use of Pro Tools, websites, and all this other shit is just garbage. Straight malarky. Niggas who have to put out a list of reasons why we should give them respect get no love from me. I loved Return Of The Mac, and I even dug Blood Money, but you look extra-bitchmade with that post, P. Fix up and get your mind right before you get locked down, forreal.

BHM2K8: Talk About Bandwagon Jumpin'

Jesse McCartney's new single, "Leavin'" (.wma / .rm), is out, and is produced by The-Dream and C. Tricky Stewart, AKA the niggas behind Rihanna's "Umbrella". I always hate things like this; dude, you weren't on this steeze back when your Pop crap was out a few years back. Now you are some proto-Timberlake, coastin' over the flavor of the month? GTFO, dog.

The deep part is, there's probably some truly gifted artist who could have murked this so much better than this paper thin punk, but with McCartney on Hollywood Records (read: Disney), the paper talks. Can't blame Dream & Tricky - the name of the game is dollas, and them niggas go for the publishing before the upfront payments, at least that's what Dream has said in the past. Good for them, but, IMO, bad for the scene. This cat not only had Dream & Tricky, but he is also calling on The Clutch (Omarion, Ciara), J.R. Rotem (Britney Spears, Sean Kingston), Sean Garrett (Usher, Mary J. Blige) and others. Pop/Urban? Fuck you, dog. We see your attempted permeations, and we don't like it.

BHM2K8: Whoopi Gets Snubbed?

I hardly watch new films, so the Oscars really don't appeal to me. I was kind of taken aback, however, in reading that Whoopi Goldberg was not included in the "Oscars hosts" montage they produced during Sunday's telecast. Now, I'm not as big a Whoopi fan as the YBF, but I do appreciate what she's done in the industry, and her hosting something like four times is too important to not have been included. She's achieved crazy heights within her career, in both comedy and drama, as well as with her hosting duties, and it's a damn shame that she wasn't included. I'm riding for you, Whoopi.

BHM2K8: Obama Lost

And Ralph Nader is the man who will pull the trigger. He's just thrown his hat into the 2008 race, and with Obama's momentum over the last few months, I feel that if he does get the DNC backing, it will still be for nothing. It will be a "look, a nigga could be a legit candidate", but ultimately will lose - not because he couldn't handle John McCain, but because Ralph fucking Nader murked so many Obama fans, and made them join his party.

Our country is not a three-party country, and I don't see many Republicans who follow McCain all of the sudden backing Nader - but many Democrats and Independents are quicker to follow someone like Nader. Just ask Al Gore.

The more I think about it, the more I think Nader is getting Republican Party dollars to cast doubt and votes from Obama. I really do. Conspiracy theories be damned.

Obama still have my vote, though...

BHM2K8: Nigger, What It Is?

Nas "What It Is" (original / DJ Khalil version): Shouts to Che Sing for posting this up (peep that post for a dope Khalil video as well). This is supposed to be some cuts off of Nigger. Well, one cut. That original version is ass - fake "epic" melodramatic malarky. The more I listen to the DJ Khalil version, I actually get excited - that grit, the dirtyness of the beat is so essential for Nas right now. Makes his verse pop so much harder than the original's bullshit corny beat. (Shouts to E for the link)

BHM2K8: A Tropical People

We got hit with a few inches of snow yesterday - that meant it was time to shovel and stay home, toasty warm. Thing is, my 18-month son has never been out in the snow before. So prepared we got for our snow expedition...

You gotta love how boots we bought at the beginning of the season aren't even fitting anymore...

"Damn, what's good with this snow?"

Lil' man stepped off the curb and wasn't ready for the drop...

Yeah, he caught the full snow-suit on his pants. Peep my Starbury boots.

I think it was the wetness on his hands going up in his jacket - he was not feelin' it at ALL!

Seriously. We had only been out there for a few minutes...

"We's a tropical people, Da-Da..."

BHM2K8: Cut One, Cut All

Remember when word got out that Disney had to digitally reduce Lindsay Lohan's titties for Herbie: Fully Loaded, because moms though Lohan looked like a tramp? Are they planning to do the same thing for College Road Trip, the new flick that stars Raven-Symone & Martin Lawrence?

I mean, Raven grew up to be a DIME, thick body and all. Does Disney not think that Raven can look raunchy, or are they just under the guise that black women cannot be as sexy as white tramps? Is the curvy body somehow "safe" to Disney producers? Am I being paranoid because sistas aren't being objectified when they shouldn't be like white actresses are?

And just to keep it funky: Lindsay, I've seen your titties: they ain't all that. As a matter of fact, the good number of those nude shots looks hideous. But I digress - it's not like I enjoy either of the flicks, but in seeing the commericals for the College Road Trip, I had to ask...

BHM2K8: Interview With A Nigger

Part 1 of this interview with, well, a nigger, from Nigger: The Movie. I would assume this would be some comedy shit, just given the title, but if this is going to be something we are trying to take serious, why would you bill this nigga as "NIGGER"?

That Criminals Gone Wild nigger is a nut.

BHM2K8: Do We Need A New Common LP?

Common, Brother Common, you're one of my favorite lyricists, period. Back in the late 90s, you were that nigga for me, especially when "1,2 Many..." came out - that was my theme song during my late high school years! I would get hungry for your music, and dissect your lines on busstops and during long walks through the city.

Now, while I loved your output with No I.D. and Dilla, you slacked off for a bit, and I felt you'd find your new swagger with Kanye. And you did. And, aside from the bangers on BE, I wasn't impressed. Some cats might wild on you for the twists and turns you took on albums like Electric Circus, but I respect that whole Solquarians era, and I would take something like that before I'd sit through another Finding Forever. Now you are telling MTV that your new album is set to drop in November? Why? Don't you have some R&B videos to cameo in? Or more superheroes to portray? What's good with that?

Dog, just don't taint your legacy with this snooze-core Soul-Rap. I just can't stand the sappy love odes: when you need to be making more of "The Corner", you are trying to "Go!"... I mean, hell, you slept on the instrumental for "Everything I Am" - that should tell you something, nigga! Maybe you should ease up a bit, get the Q-Tip project done before dropping another solo.

You want to call your new jawn The Believer. Make me a believer and keep it thoro.

BHM2K8: Smile For The Camera

Picture proof that bad press is still press: YBF has pics from Tank's recent arrest in New Orleans. Apparently he was tasered and says he was brutalized, but yo, if I felt I was getting beat down by the cops enough to file charges, why in the FUCK would I be smiling and posing in the pictures? You smellin' that salmon?

BHM2K8: Superman That Shirt

Looks like some t-shirts (which I don't believe look like the one above) bearing Soulja Boy's "Superman That Hoe" phrase are getting banned from a university:

A controversy has arisen on the University of Michigan campus over the sale of t-shirt’s bearing a portion of the chorus from Soulja Boy’s smash single “Crank Dat.” According to the school’s newspaper, the Michigan Daily, the university’s Sexual Assault Prevention Awareness Center and a campus feminist group called the F-word, have called the shirts demeaning to women. The shirts, which were created by residents of the school’s South Quad in December, feature a Superman style ‘S’ with the words South Quad on the front, and the phrase “Superman that hoe..” on the back. While Soulja Boy has denied it, rumors have circulated for some time implying that the phrase is slang for an involuntary sexual act that involves a man ejaculating on a woman’s back.

How this nigga is denying the meaning is beyond me. It's almost as bad as Fergie's "London Bridge". Shit, this is worse than "Can't Ban Da Snowman"! In all seriousness, though - while I hate the banning of anything like clothes, music and whatever, this shit is a bit ridiculous, esp. since this F-making motherfucker won't own up to it.

BHM2K8: Lil' J

There's times when I realize that the current face of Hip-Hop warrants applause for keeping young Blacks employed. Plus, being the nigga I am, I saw Hip-Hop grow in the mainstream arena, into the massive money maker that it still is, today. There is a darkside of this current mutation of the Hip-Hop nation, and it's perfectly exemplified by "ya girl, Lil' J":

Yo, is she stuffy? Who is she hollerin' at? Why she with the drawn out "ni-ca!"? And why does she look like an orangutan with Down syndrome?

I mean, is this her playin' a joke, or does she seriously think she is "gangsta"? I don't doubt that she represents the dirty, but there's a few things about White chicks who grow up with and around niggas:
  • most of them don't have to front. These bitches are hard and thoro, and their hood comes out naturally (like niggas), and not on some put-upon mess.
  • They don't use the word "nigga" or "nigger" or "nig", usually. Some sets and hoods will permit that shit, given how close/cool a bitch is, but even then, that's only around a select few. A white bitch who is down and has some liberty throwing the word nigga around will not do that shit in a public place or around niggas they don't know.
There's more but I just can't be pained to keep writing about these ignorant ass trollups who think Web 2.0 = "let me get my beef on". Keep this shit to the playground. And she looks a hot mess, like she been crying or was just stomped on for a few. Go clean ya face off, speak the way mom and dad taught you, and keep it correct.

I LOL everytime I hear her say "if you wanna bump, let's go". Please.

BHM2K8: You Scared?

I'd have to say Hip-Hop is in a sad state when one's threat is picking up the pad and pen:

Said Young Dro, “…He’s writing [rhymes on paper] now, so y’all in trouble.”

Nigga, is you serious? If T.I. is supposed to frighten me with his writtens, I hope they are miles above his recent fodder, which I can only assume was done the Jay-Z way.

I'm just... SMH at the Rap game right now! In any case, Tip has made something like 50 tracks for his Back In Gear LP, which won't see the light of day (I'm assuming) until this whole house arrest/gun possession charges thing blows over. You know, that lil' thing...
