The Cause Invites You to His 'Release Party'

The Cause is one of the many artists I remember from the Garden Variety series in Trenton many moons ago. From afar, I've seen him continue to push forward, growing as a solo act. This week, he sent over his latest, Release Party, and I'm loving how cohesive this project is, especially when you consider there's different cats producing each track. The final track, "Flower Town," also features the impeccable Valona Denise as well as the legend DoItAll from Lords of the Underground.

Stream the full project below, and download it today from Bandcamp.

Valona Denise "Love Jones" (Video)

To close out 2017, Trenton's own Valona Denise dropped SBTP, which we loved for its intoxicating effect. Roughly nine months later, she takes one of the more gorgeous and soulful tracks from that release, the Iamnobodi-produced "Love Jones," and dropped a dope visual for it. Check it out below.

Valona Denise Weaves Intoxicating Tales On 'SBTP'

For heads trying to ease into 2018 with a release that'll satisfy their need for stories and melodies, look no further than Valona Denise's SBTPSample Before the Product—project, which dropped a few days before the end of 2017. Taking a cue from her 2015 project Rollin' Stoned Chronicles, this 15-song release has a theme weaved throughout it. That's not to say you can't enjoy solo jawns on their own, but know that there's something there if you stay focused. Truth be told, that's how you should be approaching life, ya dig?

Featured on the boards and on the mic are everyone from Rell Gambino to Sonic Asaad, with Valona playing the poetic conductor, making the entire journey flow effortlessly. Stream SBTP below, and cop it via Bandcamp.

Valona Denise Has to "Level Up Now"

Feel like it's been a minute since I've heard some new heat from Trenton's own Valona Denise, and I'm loving this Beatmenace-produced "Level Up Now." Over the barely two-minute gem, V.D. doesn't hold anything back, clapping at anyone standing in her way and commenting on anything that's fucking up her day.

Sometimes, it just beez like that. Stream "Level Up Now" below, and turn this one up LOUD. Hopefully we've got some new material from Valona on the way.

There Are Some Dope Acts at Art All Night - Trenton 2016

Back in 2014, Black Collar Biz performed in front of one of the largest crowds I'd ever seen amassed in front of Art All Night - Trenton's main stage. It was dope because I'd just spoken to him a few weeks before the event, and it truly felt like something was about to happen. Collar did it for #TheTown, and it felt like there was a real moment; there's always been a hip-hop scene in Trenton, but I think the combination of the live band element fused with the raw poetry and the neo soul vibes really shifted the focus of the artists in Trenton.

It's been a wild ride for hip-hop at Art All Night - Trenton, and in the city in general, but for those of you looking for a few hip-hop/neo soul vibes at the event, take a glimpse at some of the dope neo soul/hip-hop acts that will be a part of the the three(!) music stages at Art All Night - Trenton this year.

And don't forget, Art All Night - Trenton isn't just about great music—their 10-year anniversary will feature an Iron Pour, live glassblowing, thousands of pieces of art, loads of delicious food, and much, much more. We're talking 24 hours of a great damn time in the city of Trenton. The festivities start at 3PM on June 18, 2016 and roll right through to 3PM on June 19, 2016 (which is Father's Day). I'll be there for at least that long—if you see me there, say whattup!
