Ethel Cee x Dumhi - Coke & Yoga

From Ethel Cee: "Coke & Yoga is a song that I have wanted to write for some years now. The hook has been floating around in my head for at least two years, and I always hoped that one day this story would find a good home. I have a few friends who live out in Los Angeles and one in particular who is from there. I remember hearing descriptions of some of L.A.’s residents. You could meet someone with fake tits, fake lips and a fake ass but they are vegan or on some kind of macrobiotic diet. I found this to be equal parts hilarious and intriguing. So when I say ‘Hey L.A.’ in the hook, I am basically saying hello to the only group of people I thought could understand how two things so diametrically opposed could exist in the same life. I felt like L.A was where I probably belonged. They would get it. They wouldn’t judge. It described me perfectly. I mean, what kind of person does coke and then gets up and goes to yoga class the next day? Who DOES that shit? Hot mess. Both cocaine and yoga came into my life about the same time. I still do yoga. The coke had to go. I liked it way too much and I didn’t want to go down the road of addiction. I’ve seen firsthand what that looks like and It. Is. Ugly. So I stopped cold turkey while I was still in control. Yay, me. I can say it is probably the most personal song I have ever written and released aside from ‘Good To You’ and ‘Bury the Hatchet’. Everything is an accurate account of what was happening at the time".

Side Effect ft. Baby Blak "That Can Change"

The homey Haj of Dumhi has been telling me he's got some shit on deck, and finally sent some fly freshness over in the form of a lazy cavalcade of horns, organs and guitars that he let recent-collaborator Side Effect and Baby Blak merk. This is some shit to coast to, riding out these final hours of a punk-ass winter into what's looking like a beautiful Spring that should lead into a fu cking brutal Summer. All of that can change, doe. Who knows. I fucks with this regardless, turn this one up LOUD. And smoke something to it.

Side Effect "Therapy"

Everyone, from Tyler, the Creator to your favorite wonderland MC, uses their music as a form of therapy. Hell, I use music as therapy as well. Or would that be escapism? WHatever it is, life be on some bullshit, so if it's not fucking with quality sounds, some of you fucks would be shanked and strung up, early. In any case, the boy Dumhi has rocked an EP with Side Effect called, what else, the Side Effect EP. It also features MCs like Elucid, Jermiside, Random, Sick Six and more. This track right here has been sitting on my hard drive for a minute, and it recently leaked (alongside "Alive"), so I recommend you fucking with it. The entire Side Effect EP drops on the 15th of September, so be on the look for that one, dumb dumb.

Dumhi The Whole World's Watching

I'd review this, but fuck Dumhi. I'd post the proper cover, but I like doing shit that says "I got something before you didn't". I'd laugh if you believed either of those statements, too. I will say that I talk shit on and about Haj, but the dude's a fucking talented producer. He's also nice as fuck - he dropped The Whole World's Watching on his Bandcamp for free until the end of March. I believe this album is set to be on sale digitally and physically, but this being leaked for freebie is essential. Featured MCs include Elucid, Scanz, Reef The Lost Cauze, Ethel Cee, Random and plenty others. I love the vibe on this, too - some interesting, dusty samples on here, punched up and funked out with dizzying effects. Feels like one of those early '90s longplayers, where you didn't know what to expect from track to track, and each song building in strength. And you fuckers still want to sleep. Fucking hate that. Grab this now, and thank Haj later.

Dumhi ft. Reef The Lost Cauze "4th Of July"

Dumhi ft. Reef The Lost Cauze "4th Of July": Reef sounds good with a number of producers, but truth be told, I’d just like to hear him over Dumhi’s productions. This cut, taken from the forthcoming Dumhi release The Whole World’s Watching, was recording on the 4th of July, and has some anti-American graffiti sprayed all over it. Reef doesn’t mince words – feels like an anthem from the Civil Rights movement, like Reef got possessed by a nigga who just got attacked by a K-9. Word of Haj is that Dub MD’s commissioned an alternate version of this, but his cryptic fuckery doesn’t help in me knowing where or when that will surface. For right now, dig into this one.

Dumhi "The Knife (Remix)"

Dumhi ft. Sean Price, Burke The Jurke & Reef The Lost Cauze "The Knife (Remix)": I was actually speaking to Haj earlier today, and he told me that he's working on some serious things, be it dumhi.com or the next Dumhi release. In an effort to get you fools to pay attention, he unleashed this remix of "The Knife", which was found on last year's The Jungle minus P. Reef and Price are two of my current favorite MCs - it's straight bars when either of these cats touch a mic, and Dumhi's track is the perfect vehicle for these two to dumb out on. Rock with this, then keep it locked for further instructions, ya dig?

Reef The Lost Cauze Raiders Of The Lost Art

No matter how many names are thrown on the covert art (peace to NoPhrillz and Benja Styles), this tape is essential. A sick mix of freestyles over a number of cuts, as well as some SICK features that Reef The Lost Cauze has done recently, you get a great glimpse at one of the staples of the Philly Hip-Hop scene. Dude puts me in the zone of a Sean Price, a cat with wit and raw lyrics just beasting over any beat thrown at him. And if you're not up on the Haj-produced "Philly Cousins", you're playing yourself.

Dumhi "Sacred Papercuts"

Dumhi ft. Scanz, Nico The Beast & Rich Quick "Sacred Papercuts": Philly stays going in, and this track should show you. I mean, shit, that line-up, over a fly beat from Haj? Murda. That's it. Cats giving you raw spit like this for free - make sure you're supporting, though! Via Dumhi.com.

Dumhi w/ Reef the Lost Cauze "Lions"

Dumhi w/ Reef the Lost Cauze "Lions": If you're smart, you copped Dumhi's The Jungle. If not, fuck you. Philly is runnin' shit, and this project is a great example of that. No nonsense boom bap with some slick samples from the one like Haj. On August 3rd, The Jungle Instrumentals will drop. You hear this beat? This is one of my favs on the album - just has puts you in that zone, nahmean? Too tough.
