I missed last month's epic Garden Variety show, but I'm definitely trying to be there for this one. My boys Tone Liv and Venomous2000 are on the bill alongside heavy hitters like FEED, King Don, Base Bronson, Squeegie-O, Yasin, Meatman Da Butcher and many more. The Custodian of Records, AKA Self, is not only a dope as FUCK producer, but he organizes the illest Hip-Hop showcase in/for New Jersey, Garden Variety (you've probably seen me post about it a time or two on this very site). The Shape of Things to Come hooked up with Self for an interview to speak about ::ahem:: the pratfalls of high school, the art of digging for and sampling vinyl, white rappers, and, finally, get to the bottom of why they thought they didn’t like each other. Not only does it never stop - it returns outside! The one year anniversary of the Garden Variety shows taking place in Trenton (yes, it's been a year!) is going down April 28th at The Galamo! Shouts to everyone who came through to the #GardenVariety show in Trenton last night. Had a nice crowd dumb early, and cats like Rich Quick, Skrew, Black Collar Biz, Mr. Fickle, Moe-Fit The Phenom and King Don set the show off right. There were some cats who got on the mic that I wasn't feeling, but Self set shit straight - he has some ideas that I truly hope come to fruition. As does Kasso. And Tone Liv, who I spent most of the night with cracking jokes and breaking down WWE shit. Random. As per usual, I've posted pics on Facebook, and after the jump I have some BlackBerry footage of Rich Quick and Black Collar Biz performing. I always enjoy myself at the Garden Variety shows. Shouts to Self and Kasso for continuing to shine the light on the Jersey Underground, and for heads who come out and experience these shows. In my side convos with guys like Mr. Fickle and Sol Infinite, as well as building briefly with Phace and Divine Drummah, there's not only a shitload of music that I need in my possession SOON, but there's still the ever-present Internet fame vs. Real World fame thing going on. Shows like this help me actually SEE people, and not just admire cover art, but there's a next level that our scene desperately needs. Hopefully 2012 can help us all achieve our wishes. I told yall the Garden Variety show was going down twice in Trenton! On the 22nd of October, they're hitting the Trenton Atelier once again, featuring the likes of Black Collar Biz, Myk Dyaleks, Surg, Sol Infinite, Earl Grey, Phace, Ceez and plenty others. The Garden Variety Show (10/01/2011)

I knew that the Garden Variety shows from this past Summer we being done to help drum up support/promote the massive Jersey Fresh Jam in August. I had no idea they were going to keep this thing going 'til the wheels fall off, though! The return of the Garden Variety Show hits Trenton on the 1st of October, and features an action-packed line-up, which not only includes Edobeci hosting, but features acts like Sol Zalez, Skrewtape, Rich Quick, King Don, Omega Ice, Jahmil Jasper and plenty more. The pre-show cypher will be going down, and the temparture should be nice. As per usual, it's a $5 donation to get in, and it'll be held at the Trenton Atelier on 220 Allen Street, Trenton. Be there. Peace to Kasso and Self.

Word is that there will be another GV show in October - I'll keep you posted when that one goes down as well!

Daniel Joseph x Tone Liv x Phace (7/31/2011)

I literally took this video with the BB Torch about 12 hours ago, outside of last night's Garden Variety show in Trenton, NJ. I finally got to meet Elite Assembly members Deal - The Villain, Daniel Joseph and Myk Dyaleks (as well as the lovely @haikuguru). Deal, Myk and I spent a good couple of hours chopping it up outside of the venue, and it ended with DTV dropping a load of beats from a few forthcoming projects. After the last cipher, Deal dropped this instrumental and as you can see, we successfully got Espee to spit right there in the middle of the street. Wasn't expecting Tone to jump in, but that's what he and Phace did. Great shit to capture. Great night (check out some pictures via Facebook). And I definitely heard Tone and Daniel birth a brilliant idea: TONE JOSEPH. This collaborative project needs to happen. Write your congressman. And get ready for the Jersey Fresh Jam, which is going down at Terracycle in Trenton on the 20th of August.

Once again, it's on! The Garden Variety Show is going down in Trenton, NJ once again. Back at the Galamo, this edition goes down on July 30th with a host of fly MCs, including RTD bredren like Daniel Joseph and Emcee Jermaine. I see the Get Money Fly Boyz will be rocking, as well as Roebus One, Pistol, Base Bronson, Sam Hill and plenty others. Host this time around is Edobeci, with music provided by the mighty Divine Drummah, M-Fasis and Ahmad.
