This is that proper NJ Underground shit: "The 7 Immortals are an OG Hip-Hop crew from Trenton NJ and includes more than 15 established, pioneering artists from the area. Members are mostly comprised of those artists who regularly recorded with the late, veteran Trenton producer Tony D (Poor Righteous Teachers/YZ), the crew from the revolutionary 90's Hip-Hop show: "The Raw Deal," as well as artists who frequented Hot Spots Studio (a recording respite for Trenton Hip-Hop artists circa 1989-1994.), alongside several Wu-Tang affiliates".

Shawn Lov Future Left Behind
I won’t say I forgot about Shawn, but I was amazed and shocked (and mad) that I didn’t remember that he was on the bill for last month’s Garden Variety show, and was also glad he was there. Straight out of Trenton, dude’s a lot for showcasing the underground that lives strong in the tri-state, and recently exercised just that point with the release of this EP. Six tracks deep, with three produced by The Custodian of Records, Shawn encompasses what the four (five?) elements of Hip-Hop are, and on tracks like “Face The Clock”, twists them into some comic book lore with a very unhappy ending. Features include Sadat X, FEED, Big Snuff and others, but really, it’s Shawn’s show. Wish Shawn and Self did a full project together right… now! I just uploaded a bunch of pics from last night's #GardenVariety show that went down in Trenton (check them out via Facebook). It was good to finally meet Tone Liv, as well as see brethren like Jermaine, Self, Kasso, Leon Rainbow, Mr. Fickle, Rhymageddon and more. Other Jersey fam there included DJ Absurd, Blackout, Steve Smiff, Spitatainment, Shawn Lov and The Cause & Knowledge. Feels like each of these GV shows in Trenton are better than the last. Some highlights: Spit and Divine passing an L - mid-performance, the one and only Paperface going in, Self's insane freestyle, host Popa Chief's "FIYAFIYAFIYAFIYA", DJ M.Fasis with the straight 45 set, Blackout's performance, Tone's commanding of the stage and just the cipher itself. Always great seeing NJ Hip-Hop properly represented. I have a few videos I'll be uploading as well. The Garden Variety Show (6/25/2011)
Told you guys this was happening monthly! Same Jersey flavor, different venue - if you guys have been to any of the Jersey Fresh Graf Jams in the past, you know where the Terracycle building is. Dope spot, too. Off in the cut (kind of how the Galamo is), but it's a lot bigger on the inside. Should be a dope event. Returning cats include Divine Drummah, Rhymageddon, Mr. Fickle, Blackout, Steve Smiff and more, with dope cats like Shawn Lov, Tone Liv, Fizix, Zu Ninjas and more added to the bill. I imagine that cypher is going to be TOUGH! $5 donation, great night of Hip-Hop. The crowd from the last GV Show was larger than the one in April, so I hope this one is bigger than the May show! In the many ciphers within the NJ Hip-Hop community, there are names that can be universal. Poor Righteous Teachers, Redman, Naughty By Nature, sure. Cats like Self (aka The Custodian of Records) are known by the majority of cats on the more underground Hip-Hop zone. One name you might see and hear is the homey Divine Drummah, aka DJ Mone. I remember being at my cousin’s house for a cookout a year or so ago and having her fiancee’s brother bigging up Divine’s work. I knew of him through work he’s done for cats like Shawn Lov, Money First and a host of other cats. At last month’s Garden Variety show, I finally got to hear him rock live, and dude’s a monster. I knew his beats were on point, but he was playing a GRIP of instrumentals I wasn’t up on. The following Sunday I did a bit of investigating, and happened upon the Nu Jerzy Tranzit instrumental album, which features cuts dedicated to mad stops on the NJ Transit train route. The one that killed me that night was “Newark Penn Station”:
Hypnotic. Love that sub. Just some intoxicating shit, you feel me? The full project is very Jersey-centric, that mixture of Philly Soul and NY flavor that only Jersey can decipher and make hotter. Rhymaggedon rocked over some of his jawns for the recently-released M.A.S.H., and I highly recommend you fucks with that. Get at Divine for beats, too – he’s not only a local hero, but he’s just that damn good. Don’t play yourself, forreal.
