The Custodian of Records' Summer Beat Mix

Been a while since I've heard some new material from The Custodian of Records, so it's dope to hear this beat tape from him as I'm chillin' in the castle before this afternoon's Jersey Fresh Jam. Not sure if TCOR will be in the building, but he'll be here in spirit.

His words: "made earlier this summer for shittz n giggz. some of the beats are recent / older / posted and unreleased. this is nothing. just a lil something to keep the hoards of people awaiting my next release at bay.. sike lol. enjoy"

The Custodian of Records - Nobody Got Rhymes For That

Been a minute since I've heard new beats from The Custodian. It's a $10 thing, but for 21 beats of fire? That's well worth it.

Shawn Lov & Rich Quick "Keep It Lit"

Dreary weather today? Nothing like some certified Jersey fly shit to keep your spirits up. Produced by the homey The Custodian of Records, Shawn Lov and Rich Quick collaborated to do it some justice. This one's for you Hip-Hop lovers who feel like you carry the torch for the true school. Consider this your anthem. Definitely the last ones left - need to get my son memorizing this one!

The Shape of Things To Come x The Custodian

The Custodian of Records, AKA Self, is not only a dope as FUCK producer, but he organizes the illest Hip-Hop showcase in/for New Jersey, Garden Variety (you've probably seen me post about it a time or two on this very site). The Shape of Things to Come hooked up with Self for an interview to speak about ::ahem:: the pratfalls of high school, the art of digging for and sampling vinyl, white rappers, and, finally, get to the bottom of why they thought they didn’t like each other. Fucks with this!

[video] 7 Immortals "Thursday Night Live"

This is that proper NJ Underground shit: "The 7 Immortals are an OG Hip-Hop crew from Trenton NJ and includes more than 15 established, pioneering artists from the area. Members are mostly comprised of those artists who regularly recorded with the late, veteran Trenton producer Tony D (Poor Righteous Teachers/YZ), the crew from the revolutionary 90's Hip-Hop show: "The Raw Deal," as well as artists who frequented Hot Spots Studio (a recording respite for Trenton Hip-Hop artists circa 1989-1994.), alongside several Wu-Tang affiliates".

Sol Zalez - Reisende

Not sure what's good, but I'm digging the Jersey Underground dropping these fly projects on us for $free.99. One cat I always saw this summer at the Garden Variety shows in Trenton was Sol Zalez, but we never builded. No worries, homey speaks through these tracks, and this is some straight up Hip-Hop for you. Back to the essence with cuts like "Uprock 4 Me" dip right into weeded journies like "So High". Not too many features, aside from cats like Tone Liv and Phace, with beats from The Custodian Of Records, DJ A Sharp and DJ Priority (among more). Short and sweet, but there's a lot going on here. Take that ride.

Sol Infinite Within Destination

Here's a project I've been rocking to over the last few weeks. Sol Infinite recently dropped Within Destination, which is a trek into the merky mentals of a talented Jersey Hip-Hop artist. No surprise that Self put me onto these - he has a track on each side, and is like the encyclopedia of dope NJ Hip-Hop. Also love that this project is constructed in two sides, like your favorite mixTAPE. They are both available for a limited time, and should be required listening for those of you who grew up on that moody/subterranean Hip-Hop and find that sound missing in today's scene. Might even wanna grab these and put them on a Maxell. Seriously.

Custees Choice, Episode 4

Shouts to Self, forreal. The man keeps it moving, and constantly does it for Jersey. I won't go into detail with the convo we shared this past Saturday, but really, if you're reppin' for Jersey, don't bullshit with it. Showcase the scene in it's entirety. You might go to a Garden Variety show and hear the Get Money Fly Boyz alongside Tone Liv. Same coin, different sides. Anyways, for Custees Choice #4, TCOR features tracks from Pharoah Monche, Grand Puba, The Dopplegangaz, CyHi The Prynce, $am Hill and more. You need to fucks with this.

Rich Mahogany "It's Gotta Be (Custeemix)"

Rich MahoganyIt’s Gotta Be (Custeemix)”: Not too long ago, Rich dropped the “It’s Gotta Be (Rich Mahogany)” video, but the other day, Self uploaded his remix, and Christ. Not to disrespect Olaf’s instrumental, but Self dropped those heavenly strings with the sub – shit’s awesome. Rich’s Most Slept On Nightmare album is on the way, and he sent over a couple of ILL tracks for the Jersey Fresh Jam mixtape I’m compiling tracks for. Put something hairy and green into your pipe and get lifted to this one.

And for those who know, Custee’s Choice, Episode 3 is available for download. And make sure you're in Trenton on the 30th for the next Garden Variety show!

Shawn Lov Future Left Behind

I won’t say I forgot about Shawn, but I was amazed and shocked (and mad) that I didn’t remember that he was on the bill for last month’s Garden Variety show, and was also glad he was there. Straight out of Trenton, dude’s a lot for showcasing the underground that lives strong in the tri-state, and recently exercised just that point with the release of this EP. Six tracks deep, with three produced by The Custodian of Records, Shawn encompasses what the four (five?) elements of Hip-Hop are, and on tracks like “Face The Clock”, twists them into some comic book lore with a very unhappy ending. Features include Sadat X, FEED, Big Snuff and others, but really, it’s Shawn’s show. Wish Shawn and Self did a full project together right… now! The Future Left Behind album drops later this year on Nuffsaid Records.
