Via this very blog and my twitter, I've spent time discussing and voicing my viewpoints on the current rise of Trap. You already know what "Trap" sounds like if you fuck with music from cats like Waka Flocka, Lex Luger, T.I., Rick Ross and a plethora of artists from that section of the US. Big 808-heavy beats from the Southeastern side of thangs. The boy Ricky Raw even opened a dialogue on the subject, as over the last few months, loads of EDM DJs and producers, from Diplo and Craze to Munchi and Dillon Francis have started flocking to this sound, and heads like UZ getting 'nuff praise for taking the sound into a different atmosphere, so to speak. The hoemy Zone3 has been a support of this site, and his blog THEFREAKBEAT, alongside FREAKSTEP Records, have really started putting that love into motion with loads of high quality Bass Music projects, and this one, Trap Check Vol. 1, is focusing solely on the Trap side of things.

Mixed by Hipnotikk, this will be a dope look into the Bass Music scene's take on the Trap sound. Confirmed artists include Taste Tester, Hipnotikk, Disc Jockey Nappy, Kid Cedek, ADHD, Sin Diesel, Bossk, R3, Pancho Grady and plenty more, with some others set to contribute as well. After the jump, you can check out Nappy and Taste Tester's contributions, as well as a special radio drop done specifically for this mix. This Is Thugstep, Vol. 2

Once again, it's on. Following up on last month's well-received This Is Thugstep compilation, we hit you with the next edition. This one features a number of refix artists that Nappy and I have associated ourselves with since this thing got started, from JayCeeOh and the Dixon Brothers to Heroes + Villains, DJ Cable, Styles&Complete, DJ Hipnotikk, Spinstyles and more, with heads like Distance, Caspa, Vaski, Clicks & Whistles, Sinden and others filling out the duties of remixing/refixing and blending some of the finest artists within Hip-Hop and Bass Music, including: Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Danny Brown, Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, Davr, Darq E Freaker and plenty more. Disc Jockey Nappy - Thugstep Commission 3

Once again... it's on. Nappy continues with his Thugstep Commission series, with what I feel is the most fully realized mix yet. Not only do you get the huge remixes of Rap cuts from Waka Flocka, Drumma Boy, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky and others from Nappy, Santi Junior, SoundBoy Pussy, Vaski and more, but we get some monstrous cuts from Monstar, Hizzleguy, Aleon Craft, Proper Villains, among others. We ever get two cuts featuring original production, including Elucid's "You Ain't Even Know", which is dropping on Street Bass Anthems 5, and legit broke Nappy's windows. I don't know what your vice is, but it's 4/20, so I imagine you're chiefing something. Pack that bowl / bong / pipe up, light your dutch, and sip that brew. This is one to get rowdy to. [preview] Nappy vs. Definate This Is Anger

I love my team, even though they keep me in the dark with shit. We premiered "This Is Anger" on a whim back in December, and truthfully, I'm not sure where the idea for remixes happened. Let's just assume Nappy turned a thought into a movement - it's happened before. What possibly began as "something to do" has turned into an all-out remix project for "This Is Anger", utilizing artist's like Spooky and Teeza (who are smashin' things in the Grime scene) to guys like Linton Brown (who you might not have heard of, but need to get to know), to RTD bredren like DJ Hipnotikk and The Two. Fifteens. In this preview that definitely just randomly hit your Internets earlier today, you get to hear versions from all of the aforementioned artists. I think a few of these are final, but a lot of this - including the cover art - is still in the "rough" stages, and trust: when we hit you with that final release (which I plan on dropping via RTDLTD), you won't be upset. Massive things a gwarn! Run the riddim track!

DJ Hipnotikk Future Soundboys Vol. 1

Wake yo punk ass up! This mix has been sitting around for a bit, for no good reason, so I'm glad Hipnotikk hit me up and asked if we could drop this future thinkin' tape to all of you freaks out there. As future soundboys, you have to not only have your ear to the ground, but the ability to sift through the muck and the bullshit for the true gems. On this hefty mix, Hipnotikk's done just that - loads of Hip-Hop mashed with dubstep and drumstep. I mean, you know we've been championing this sound for a while, but it always help to re-establish our pole position, throw a pigeon back so you guys can get our message. DJs included on this project include DJ Nappy, RidZilla, DJ Pinto, Griffey and others, including 'nuff refixes from Hipnotikk and the one like Daddy's Money. Stunna Mane From Mississippi To Mars (mixed by DJ Cable)

The time for talkin' about this is over. The seeds for this tape were planted early December of 2010, with a phone convo between DJ Nappy and Stunna Mane. A mutual respect for the hustle was formed, and a tentative release of "NBA All-Star Weekend 2011" was discussed. What started out as a four-track remix EP turned into a THUGSTEP album, with Nappy, DJ Cable and DJ Hipnotikk digging into their bins and crafting some dubstep refixes to Stunna's acapellas. And it came out smashin'. It's one thing to grab your weapons and fire at will - it's another to have an artist see the vision and give you the tools to work with. Mixed by DJ Cable, this is a true testament to the movement that we ushered in a while ago. This isn't a victory lap - this race has just started - but the path is charted, and the new terrain is being discovered.

Stunna Mane ft. Project Pat & Benz vs. Muffler "Drunk Gorilla (Disc Jockey Nappy THUGSTEP Refix)": Mississippi stand up! If you've been following DJ Nappy and this THUGSTEP movement, you definitely heard this cut before; the homey zone3 featured this on The Freak Beat back in November of last year, but a funny thing happened while we were plotting our takeover - niggas started taking notice! Stunna Mane, especially, liked how the movement was rollin' and saw an opportunity... after one interesting phone convo, a pack of acapellas and some bangin' beats later, and we're two weeks away From Mississippi To Mars, the latest project from the HOODLUM conglomerate - full release February 18th, 2011. That's right, Nappy, DJ Cable and DJ Hipnotikk have ran these beats through the ringer and provide some excellent slices of THUGSTEP mayhem. Consider this your soundtrack to goin' intergalactically HAM! Cable's dropping the official mix for this project, and the release will be presented by Ego Thieves and Rock The Dub. If you guys are nice, I'll drop a few more cuts from this next week, in preparation, you smell me? Oh and the BONUS BEAT on this post will not be featured on this project - the mighty Hipnotikk crafted a banger refix in it's place, though!

The one like DJ Hipnotikk flipped a special mix for the bredren over at The Freak Beat, but with an interesting concept behind it. I'll let @zone3 describe it: "The concept I have been dreaming of for this mix was to create a mix of dubstep cover songs and remixes to make something accessible to those that don’t normally listen to dubstep.
