LeBronJames.com Presents The Campaign

Had no idea Low Key was working with LeBronJames.com on this mixtape, The Campaign, the official playoff mixtape. I like that they used all new music, and it features heads like Nitty Scott, MC, Freddie Gibbs, Fly Union, Chase N. Cashe, Maino and Fabolous, among others. Low Key hosted it, and says that the dirty version of this drops on Wednesday. Great look!

Drum & Bass At The NBA All-Star Weekend 2011

It'd been killing me all Saturday night - I was watching the Saturday Night competitions for All-Star Weekend, and during the Foot Locker 3 Point Challenge, I kept hearing faint Drum & Bass drums and a subtle horn sample. I decided to take my question to DOA, and the good folks enlightened me to the tune playing during that competition:

One of those tracks that got a proper rinse last year. Anyways, I'm sorry, but that would've fucked with me if I didn't get the ID. Now back to your regularly scheduled Monday blog reading(s).

William H. & Indiana Rome Eastern Conference Finals

While I love the NBA, and will always follow what goes on, I’m no where near into the game like I was in the ‘90s, when seeing cats like Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller go at it with a lot on the line had the rest of my life shut down until the game was over. William and Rome want to bring that back, and use that exact feeling to attack this project, going hard like it was 1998! Beats from Rome and the homey Tech Supreme, with some serious woofer-destroying bass on some of these jawns. You might wanna put this on repeat and grab a pick-up game or 2. Better than 5 hour energy!

LeBron James: King of NY

When did new York become the east coast Los Angeles?

This is what it looks like now with all of this LeBron James hype. I mean, sure the guy must be good because he won a few several high school championships but so did Stephon Marbury.

Dontrevius Wenters, the perennial draft day hopeful of the New York Knickerbockers, returns to the streets of New York to find out why everybody is clamoring for the Knicks to sign LeBron and not him.

Word to Dallas Penn.

Wes Fif "Blue & White Ignite"

Wes Fif "Blue & White Ignite" (prod. by Lex Luger): This might be the anthem that @DwightHoward might need to get him and his Orlando Magic hyped for the #NBAP10 this year. @WesFif puts on for his city with this one - I'd love to hear the Nets anthem, but hearing "Hit The Road Jack" 100x in a row can get annoying. Who you got in the playoffs this year?

DJ Vinroc Human Highlight Mix

DJ Vinroc and Packer Shoes linkes up to celebrate "The Human Highlight Film", Dominique Wilkins and the 20th Anniversary release of the Reebok Pump! I never owned a pair personally, but I always dug the look, and this mix should take you back with some classic Hip-Hop jams.

Gripz Poetic Literature Mixtape

Since, say, mid-June, I've been getting hit up on twitter by this MD spitter by the name of Gripz. Normally, that ish bothers me, mainly because I'd rather get tracks sent to me via email, but something about homey's consistent persistence piqued my interest. In speaking to him, I found out that he works at a fast pace, completing tracks daily, or so it seems. And this isn't like a rough draft - this is 3 verses, hooks, pretty much finished product. Over the last month or two, I've posted some leaks to his material, most of it coming from this mixtape, Poetic Literature, which is hosted by DJ Whiteowl, Anno Domini Records (Anno Domini produced a lot of these tracks) and DJ Heat. Throughout this tape, dude gives you bars. Bars bars bars. Bars for days, speaking on varying topics. The homey Wordsmith co-signed him (hell, he's featured on two tracks), which is a big look for a budding DMV spitter, and at being only 20 years old, I wonder how he will grow over the next couple of years...

See this as the perfect introduction to a budding MC from the Maryland area. And if you're digging this, know that Poetic Literature 2 is on the way!

It's not a game - Gripz' even had a track featured on DeMar Derozan's official mixtape:

Lil' Wayne "Kobe Bryant"

Lil' Wayne "Kobe Bryant": I'm not a big fan of Weezy, and I dislike Kobe even less. Aside from all of that, you gotta give props where props are due. Kobe finally won a championship by himself, and no song is more fitting that Weezy's pause-worthy tribute to this era's top shotta.

Well, maybe "A Milli", but that's if you're with Kobe's trophy wife at the bank.

EDIT And while he's being very humble, I can't resist:
