Details on Praverb's Cause of Death Have Been Released

Two months ago, we got word of the sudden death of one of our brethren, Praverb. At the time, there was no word on his having been sick or what could've taken him so suddenly. It looks like his wife Vanessa recently got the details on the situation and decided to share them with the world. It doesn't make his passing any easier, but it can be a lessen learned. Hell, my wife was talking to me yesterday about getting doctor's appointments scheduled. MAKE SURE YOU'RE HITTING THE DOCTOR, PEOPLE!! RIP Praverb.

"2 months today ... And Patrick made a way for us to start this healing process... I received the call from the medical examiner today who did his autopsy. I decided to share the with you all bc as painful as this is, it's a scary reality for us all.... Patrick suffered a massive heart attack, his heart was severely enlarged. We had no idea that this was going on. As much as I had been awaiting this confirmation... It's still breaks my heart and spirit. He can not say what caused the enlarged heart , but can only attribute to overall health and lifestyle .... I have not had a physical in almost 2 years now .... I ask this of everyone , please get an annual physical , take care of yourself, if something doesn't feel right, tell your doctor. I feel we were almost cheated that he didn't show any signs or symptoms of an upcoming heart attack, that we weren't given the usual symptoms and signs. Now that I know what took him from us , I must use this and move forward for Matthew. I will do whatever I have to do to make him proud."—Vanessa McNease

RIP Praverb

It's with confusion and sadness that I report this... word from Earl "Praverb" McNease's family is that the Florida-based MC, has passed away suddenly. While there's no official cause of death, this note was posted to his personal profile from his wife, Vanessa:

"To all of Patricks friends and family , it is with great sadness I share that we have unexpectedly lost our beloved friend, husband, father, and son , Earl Patrick McNease this morning. We are still unsure of what happened that took my love from us, but appreciate all of the support shown. I'm sorry to share such news via social media, but Patrick wouldn't have had it any other way. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve and uplift us as we try and pick up the pieces of our lives and raise our beautiful son Matthew. He was everything to his daddy, and so was his music.

The best way to honor my husband would be to continue to share his love of hip hop and the word of God through his websites, this was his aspiration."

I'm definitely in shock. For one, I'm pretty sure we were around the same age. Secondly, he was one of those cats that I'd been following for the past six years, trying to show love when it felt like so many would sleep on him for one reason or another. He was hip to how things worked on the 'Net, and was always ready to show love for his material being posted... but I think the biggest thing about Praverb was how selfless he was with the information he gained.

Just check out his website. While I'd fallen out of knowing how often he'd been putting out music (primarily because my day-job kept me out of the loop with a lot going on), I was always seeing the different pieces he'd write trying to help educate MCs on the come-up being shared on Twitter. He was putting together hip-hop blog directories and publicists, giving tips on how to market yourself, and so much more. Dude was really about helping instead of hindering, and I know personally that MCs were either just impressed with his skills or in debt with his knowledge. Guess he wasn't known as "P The Wyse" for nothing.

Damn. It's sad as hell to hear this info, and I know our international hip-hop community will take some time and really dig into his material. Do the knowledge on his site, then hit the jump and stroll through a playlist of his material. It also looks like donations are being taken to help cover funeral costs.

Rest in power, Praverb.

(And for those looking for a little bit of Praverb, check out Professional Hobbyist, The Gospel Is Free 2: The Rebirth, and Center of Attention. Dude had a gift.)

Praverb The Wyse "Blessed With The Gift (Remix)"

Praverb The Wyse "Blessed With The Gift (Remix)" (prod. by IV the Polymath): Been a minute since The Gospel Is Free 2 dropped, but I’m digging how Polymath flipped this track. P is an interesting cat – he has no problem breaking down his religion in a way that doesn’t sound preach-y, and over that Roots-esque vibe on this track? Something you can praise the Lord to while not having to turn the stereo down when your boys come in. I could only imagine how it’d feel to walk downstairs to the church rec room and saw a live band rocking something like this.

The BrainStormers "What's Mine Is Yours"

The BrainStormers "What's Mine Is Yours": Before there was a BrainStormers EP, there was this track, which Praverb tells me "introduces how we become The BrainStormers". Funky throwback instrumental here, and while I imagine it can take sharing all kinds of things with your crew members, I'm hoping these cats aren't sharing vagina. It's 2011 - we're too old to be trying to cuff homey hoppers. You don't want to share VD - that's not Hip-Hop.

The Brainstormers The Brainstormers EP

I know the homey Praverb was on the low, not picking up a pad or a pen to commit life to the page, but he had resurfaced with some ish on deck. Had no idea that this would turn into The Brainstormers, aka his collective alongside Cayoz, A.L. Laureate, DJ Grazzhoppa and O*Zee. This EP finds these cats really moving towards a similar goal, becoming a proper “group” as opposed to a bunch of niggas rapping together. Also had no idea they roped in heavy hitters like Crooked I, Skyzoo and Hell Razah to contribute, as well as beats from talented cats like Teddy Roxpin. Just a great introduction to a piece of the game that’s needed: unity. If you aren’t feeling the intro, “By All Means”, I don’t know what you’re about. Shouts to Dub MD for the heads up on this – saw a few alternate covers with Kevin Nottingham on them, but I’m not sure how they are affiliated. No bother, shit’s dope on it’s own!

Cayoz ft. Praverb "For The Love"

Cayoz ft. Praverb "For The Love": P Viz just hit me with this cut from Cayoz' Mixed Vibes mixtape, with the two of them tacklin' the instrumental for Little Brother's "We Got Now". Good to hear P back in the studio after 8 months (!!!) off; he's contributing to a forthcoming RTD project, as well as a possible collabo jawn with Cayoz. Keep it locked!

Amor Jones Epic Failure

I got an e-mail from Amor Jones saying that his project, Epic Failure, wasn't going to be ready when it was previously stated it would be. I laughed at the idea of a tape called Epic Failure never coming out. I'm not a good comedian, nor do I have the energy to write a witty joke about that being funny, but you get the idea. Now get the tape, which is dope and features my boy Praverb and some seriously ill Hip-Hop delicacies.

Praverb ft. Donny Goines "My Way"

Praverb ft. Donny Goines "My Way" (prod. by Rip One) (mirror): Here's the latest leak from the homey Praverb; this time, he links up with one of the 'Net's favorite Hip-Hop MCs, Donny Goines, over a fresh Rip One track. Here's P-Viz's take on how this one came about:

This track was conceived thanks to the lovely instrumental by Rip One. The scratch hook gave me the inspiration to write about etching my own path in this hip hop game. Donny Goines delivered an awesome verse that further solidifies his role in the progression of NY hip hop.

Speaking of Goines, his album, Minute After Midnight, is out on Amaglam Digital. Cop that.

Praverb "A Blogger's Dream"

Praverb "A Blogger's Dream" (mirror): P Viz drops some interesting rhymes over some White Van Music for a contest, and ended up speaking on XXL's Freshmen 10 piece. He goes into detail about it here...

"This track was conceived due to my disapproval with the XXL Freshmen 10 article (Mickey, Blu, Wale, B.o.B, and Cory Gunz are definitely dope), I believe that XXL could have highlighted more deserving emcees (Skyzoo, Donny Goines, Drake, Shad K., Elzhi, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Fashawn, Sha Stimuli, Wiz Khalifa, Torae, AC, Reks, Termanology, Nametag, Joe Budden, Pacific Division, and many more). I was fumbling with the idea for about a month and the article is all I needed to pen the lyrics. In the second verse I make a statment NOT a diss towards Asher Roth. The statment suggests if Asher Roth is better than Stimuli and my response is heck no. Asher is a talented emcee who has a lot of potential (he is also not afraid to reveal his background) but Stimuli is a better emcee than Asher and should have been featured over Mr. Roth (in my eyes). Sometimes marketability is the thing that saves or makes an artist more visible than the next. When I wrote the song I did not focus on winning the contest per say but instead I focused on crafting a nice song. Hopefully you will like it as much as I do..."

Keep it real, Praverb. Tell 'em how you feel. I'm definitely feeling that.

Praverb "Blessed With The Gift"

Praverb "Blessed With The Gift" (prod. by Teddy Roxpin): P-Viz is back in the studio, and shared one of the fruits of a long recording session. Battle raps meets his prominent spiritual lines, with a host of Sports-related references... over a lush beat. I guess dude has Sportscenter on while thumbing through The Bible. Whatever he's doing, keep doing it!

Praverb ft. Master 3 "Dedication"

Praverb ft. Master 3 "Dedication" (prod. by DJ Soulclap): Any cat who can speak on real life shit (i.e. letting it be known that his music hasn't sold in a minute) and can work in references to Doink and Dink is a winner in my book. P-Viz and Master 3 link up over this soulful beat from Soulclap, keeping it real... in P's words: The concept of the song is simple, I will continue to be dedicated to an art form that offers few rewards. Spitting for fame is not an option, I would rather spit for myself and hope that others feel my expression.

Don't get mo' realer.
