While I know Ivan of Hip Hop Is Read is around, I know he hasn't been keeping HHIR as tidy as he could.  Hell, I go through the same shit. But it's dope to see that he returns with a BANGER of a compilation, highlighting how ill Redman has been...over the last four years. For as many jokers as there are out there sleeping on Red, it's funny to see a compilation that's 24-tracks deep showcasing all of the reasons why you shouldn't be sleeping on Doc right NOW!

Young M.A. and De La Soul Get Remixed by Nappy DJ Needles and Benja Styles

I love when DJs have similar DJs, but instead of hitting you with the same flex, they take different paths. Let me explain. We all know that Young M.A.'s "OOOUUU" is one of the biggest records of the year. Homegirl merked her "Chiraq" freestyle, but this record took over radio and had the streets BUZZING! Something about the simpler flow and that infectious "OOOUUU" in the track turned this one into a winner.

In going over my inbox (Ed Note: send new music to rockthedub@gmail.com), I noticed that I had new remixes of this record from Nappy DJ Needles and Benja Styles, who both had the same idea. Why not reconstruct Young M.A.'s 2016 smash with De La Soul's circa-2000 classic "Oooh?" The results? Amazing.

Redman's "Dare Iz A Darkside" Turns 20

The Maggot Brain-inspired cover art. The ill red jewel case. Yup, Jersey's illest, Redman, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his sophomore album, Dare Iz A Darkside. And I don't care what's on Muddy Waters, this will forever be my favorite Redman album. He might've perfected the formula with Muddy Waters, but I feel like this LP was the best at mixing the weird, blunted, zany side of Redman with the rough, rugged and raw side. All of that Dr. Trevis shit, over the "cosmic slop" funk sound of Erick Sermon? The fact that Redman produced the majority of this project? Hell, even Red's interludes were hotter. I'm going to crack some beers later and blast the hell out of this, remembering how a 13-year-old khal was mesmerized by tracks like "Can't Wait." Rock, rock on.

"I Can't Forget New Jersey" (Dec. 2011)

I got hit up by 101 Distribution to contribute to their "News" section, highlighting NJ Hip-Hop. That's my M.O. already, so I said "let's go". The first article went up today, and is more of a 2011 NJ Hip-Hop review. I don't cover EVERYTHING, but a lot of what stood out to me in 2011's NJ scene is in there. Homework Beats Vol. 1

Sometimes I get ideas and don't know what the hell to do with them. Other times, I get an idea and work that shit out an hour later. This mix is one of the latter. Helping my son with his homework, I noticed he responded well to working while listening to music. Not full-on lyrics and stuff, but beats. All of my mixes had odd cuts and curses in them, though, so I figured I'd knock out a quick mix of instrumentals that should get him going, and keep him rocking while busting out his letters and numbers. Nothing too crazy on this one, just some dope instrumentals. A little over a half hour. Maybe more in the future.

Roni Size Chris Brown'd His Ex?

The other day, on twitter, I was actually asking people if they remembered Redman's Doc's Da Name 2000, which ended with the Roni Size-produced "I Got A Secret". I was a HUGE Roni Size fan back then, from New Forms to a lot of his solo work, so to hear that this Mercury Prize-winner is said to have shoved his ex-girlfriend down some stairs, then smiled when she asked him to dial 999, I was definitely taken aback:

The mother-of-three suffered a shattered heel after the Mercury Prize winner – real name Ryan Williams – allegedly attacked her at his home.

They had a furious row about who she was with the night before and Size, 41, is said to have flipped after she told him: ‘This relationship is over.’ He grabbed her by her hair, head and armpits before pushing her down the stairs, the court heard.

Ms Andrews told jurors how she landed in a heap screaming in agony. ‘I watched my leg go over and I didn’t touch anything else before I hit the bottom,’ she said.

‘My bone came out all the way – it was like a mushroom cloud when a bomb goes off. I sat there crumpled.’

She said he asked him several times to call an ambulance but he stood on the stairs and ‘just kept smiling’.

She was forced to drag herself out of the house and flag down a passer-by who dialled 999. The attack left her on crutches for months.

So she feels that he got some cash, got a white bird, then got possessive/aggy when she tried to do anything? I don't condone any violence towards women, and I try to be on some "innocent until proven guilty" shit, but is THIS part of the reason Roni's not really been on form as of late? Who knows. I hope this all gets sorted out, and I pray he's not really rough-housing chicks.
