Kanye West "Love Lockdown (High School Crush Remix)": High School Crush is the fuzzy electro-lovechild of Danny Intrikut and Just Jeryl. Yesterday, Jeryl sent me a link to this remix while I was at work, and I almost had to leave the job. This remix does what most of the remixes I've received couldn't: it injects some funk and feeling behind Kanye's cold verses. Most remixes seemed like they were trying to match what Kanye did with this joint, while HSC turned gave Kanye a batch of Jolt! cola, turned him upside down, and shook him all about.

Media Contender got the (enviable) task of leaking this one to the masses, so I have to give them props in this. But I'm not happy about it!

...indirectly. J. Slikk got word that Kanye West was giving an interview, speaking on "Love Lockdown" and why he changed the vocal. It was not that 'Ye listened to the bloggers who said he was doing it wrong... it was because of "Love Lockdown Part 2", where Slikk flipped that style to a T. Listen to the interview (with Slikk's version tacked on at the end), and notice Kanye talking about "Scooby Dooby Doo" and shit, i.e. direct shit from the Slikk version.

Kanye West "Love Lockdown (LL Kool K Remix)": My boy Goldfingaz is back on his grisly. I love that loop he used in here, really dirty, 70s style shit. I still can't understand how much I fathom the original, but hearing Kanye over these Trip-Hop-esque beats sounds a lot better.

My expectations for this LP are still on some "it ain't gonna be shit" shit.

Kanye West "Love Lockdown (D Sharp Remix)": DJ D Sharp is at it again; he hit you with Gangster Donuts, now check out his electro-infused flip of "Love Lockdown". You gotta love how he goes from the slower tempo and then funks it up with the percussion, then back to the half-time speed. One of my favorite reworks of this seminal late 2008 anthem.

Kanye West "Love Lockdown (J. Slikk Remix)": Slikk had cats buggin' with his hilarious send-up of "Love Lockdown", but this one is forreal right now. While the vocal stays in tact, Slikk flips an instrumental that matches that merky, lost feeling that 'Ye's vocal invoked. Plays really well off of each other. Kind of a different side of Slikk that many might not be up on, which is a plus, showcasing dude's multi-faceted funk.

Kanye West "Love Lockdown": So this is the new single from Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak, and I can't hate this anymore than I do now. Actually, if he had T-Pain singing the chorus, with Lil' Wayne doing a auto-tune'd 16 about Superhead, I'd probably REALLY hate this. I truly hope the rest of the album (which hits stores December 16th) doesn't sound this ridiculous.
