Finally. It's been two years since Kid Hum and RTD dropped Offshore Drilling. Two years since guys like Cy Yung, Whygee, Sky 7th, junclassic and others joined forces with Main Course, Deal - The Villain, The Jake and a merry band of features (including the one like Nico The Beast) aligned themselves as The KhemLab. Two years of starts and stops, and finally a powerful push over the last few months to get this done. And it's here. 20 tracks full of raw lyrics, tough beats and a bevy of topics, ranging from murder fantasies to cuts devoted to needing new kicks.

I'm excited for you guys to hear this project in it's entirety, mainly because it started from nothing and became something I'm truly enjoying. The crew also flips cuts from Diamond District and DJ Concept & DJ Mickey Knox' BYOP EP, alongside a serious grip of original beats - shouts to Anno Domini, Centric, Four Finger Ring, Sharp, 2 Deep, J57 and the rest of the 'Lab. But enough from me - take this journey with us.

Here's the final leak from #TheKhemLab project that we're dropping tomorrow. I won't go too ham into the shit, but I finally got everything sorted out last week, and feel that this is a strong compilation... that most of you will sleep on. Anyways, atop an instrumental from DJ Concept & DJ Mickey Knox's BYOP EP, Main Course, Whgyee and Sky 7th go hammer over some sly horns. One of the more powerful/immediately impactful bangers from this compilation, these three really brought their individual flavor to this one. Shouts to Main Course, who has helped a LOT in getting this project completed. Whygee ft. Lyriqs "Allie Lungshank": The boy Whygee? He has some shit sitting around. I know - he's got a fucking EP he sent me that's bananadirty, but I'm not sure when it's touching down. Over a fly beat from Prospeck, Why and Lyriqs drop some tales of the lovelorn, the cats who fall head over heels for a female who ends up sticking them in the end [II]. He has a number of cuts about love, both found and lost, but I like how this one goes. Shows the seedy underbelly, feels like a back alley comic book. Fine work.

Why yes, it's definitely been five years since I first started rockthedub (back when I still had a "blogspot.com" attached). It's been a wild journey - I went from needing a spot to let some of my unpublished interviews and reviews breathe, and turned into a destination for heads who want a different take on the normal shit you find on music blogs. As we always do around this time, I felt like I needed to drop a special compilation, and tried to assemble a load of previously -unreleased/exclusive material, so on this project you'll find new shit from Brown Bag AllStars, Zilla Rocca, Curly Castro, Elucid, Scripts N Screwz, Pugs Atomz & DJ Vadim, The Two. Whygee "White Shadows"

Whygee "White Shadows" (prod. by Deal - The Villain): Two of my favorite slept-on niggas aligned for a few gems that never made the light of day, and this is one of them. For full disclosure, Why and I wanted to do another Boondocks-centric release, sort of like Mr. Bitches, but bigger, and I suggested DTV linking with Why, and they got along pretty well. I don't wanna say this track is full of paranoia, as a lot of these thoughts are very real, and are based in truths, but you know, nigga sleep on reality like they sleep on good music. This flips Huey's "White Shadow" ghost, who really would enlighten him to the realism of varying situations in his life.

Not sure what, if anything, will happen to the next Why/RTD Boondocks project, but this and the other jawn that's sitting on my harddrive... shit has SUCH promise!

King FOE & Whygee Denver Doobies

When Whygee first hit me up about this Dispensary Music shit with King FOE, I didn't realize it'd turn into a trilogy! First was the Take A Bite Out Of Dispensary Music sampler, followed up by the Dispensary Music album, and now we've got this special freebie, Denver Doobies, which was distributed at a show they did in Denver last night. These sacks from the Colorado Rockies are a great endcap to this project: it's like the sampler is the initial bowl you hit on a Friday afternoon, getting you hype for the night's debauchery. Dispensary Music is the party - the liquor, the females, the loud beats, the camaraderie, the escapism. Denver Doobies is that final piece, the after party. Like 4AM, 5AM - whenever the sun starts rising. This is what you put on when you're hitting those last few bowls before you take it down for the night (morning?). beats from the likes of Kid Hum, 800 The Jewell, Xperiment, Qknox and more. I have another track from Why that I'm gonna drop on Monday, but for now, roll up something nice, hit your vaporizer, light your bongs or however you do it... just get toasty and soak this final chapter into your cerebellum.

Drake "Over (Instrumental)" (prod. by Boi-1da & Al Khaaliq): I just got a blast (whattup @CathrynMarie) that had Diggy fucking Simmons rapping over "Over", which is the 1st single from Drake's Thank Me Later (which I'm just not that into). In trying to have a least dope caliber MCs rap over this, I figure why not post the instrumental so niggas can download it. I imagine mad cats are already dissecting this, but given the odd structure of the beat (AKA the non-rhyming chorus has a better beat than the verses), I'm not sure I'll fuck with it. Surprise me.
