Dieselboy Previews His 'Heart of Darkness' Tour With Ferocious New Mix

The other day, I realized that I'd been riding for Stateside drum & bass for over two decades. It started with DJ's like Pish Posh and Seen out of NYC, but as I gravitated to the Philly scene, the diabolical Dieselboy has been a staple in my drum & bass diet ever since. I feel like I've only actually seen him DJ once during a wild night in Philly with all of the junglists in the AOL "Ravers" chatroom on hand. He was a robot, with no mix out of place and all bangers being rinsed.

Because he's always been dope, he has to explore new ways of expressing himself. That might be why we only get new DJ mixes form him every few years. Dieselboy's currently on his Heart of Darkness Tour, running through the U.S., and decided to bless the world with a 90+ minute mix, which features his "style of layering tracks that can only be described as “threaded” or “braided” - songs, loops and samples twist around one another in specific ways so that every element enhances those around it." With a tracklist that spans a three-page doc, D threads material from Jam Thieves, Mean Teeth, Phace, Current Value, Signal, and many, many more. It's a rough and rugged ride.

Stream and download the full mix below, and check out the dates up above—if Dieselboy's in your area in the near future, don't play yourselves!

The Planet of the Drums Crew Assemble For a Drum & Bass 'Awakening'

While AK1200, Dieselboy, Messinian, and DJ Dara have been touring the world, preaching the drum & bass philosophy as Planet of the Drums since 2000, this new mix ('Awakening') is their first official mix...EVER. Spanning 81+ tracks (which include a number of teases), this mix clocks in at an hour and 37 minutes, and truly takes heads to another dimension. There's no time frame on track selection; you're being given teases of Remarc's "RIP" and Digital's "Deadline" alongside newer material from DC Breaks, Chase & Status, Dimension, and others. The set moves at full speed, doesn't take breaks, and is the perfect way to ride out a truly trying year.

This set is a perfect combination of the squad's collective strengths, and should be seen as a proper statement of intent from the crew. Stream and download the mix via SoundCloud, and bask in the glow of the tracklist down below.

Dieselboy Returns With A Thunderous New 'Destroyer' Mix

Two years ago, Dieselboy rocked the drum & bass world with his first Destroyer mix. Back then, he told me he was inspired by the '70s grindhouse era of film-making. For his latest epic, The Destroyer II: Extinction Event, he returns to that vibe, although the length of the set balloons from 86 minutes to almost two full hours of drum & bass, dropping something like 138 tracks that have rinsed a number of sets this year.

Kind of surprised the drum & bass media hasn't picked up on this one yet, but it's their loss. This is a great examination of the harder side of 2016's drum & bass releases, with some sneakier bits thrown in for great measure. Featured acts include Phace, Break, Current Value, Emperor, Rene LaVice, and many, many more (including an Audio remix of "Carcosa," which closed out the previous mix). Stream and download the mix, and peep the full tracklist below.
