The Burner Brothers Celebrate 20 Years With This Retrospective Mix

While I can't say I've been around for everything, I've definitely been at the forefront of the stateside dnb movement. Seeing them grow as individuals and as a squad has been awesome, and after 20(!) years, they are finally ready to drop an album.

To get heads ready for that, they've come correct with Retrospect, a 35-track mix that runs through their career as a unit. You need this, seriously, especially if drum & bass is your place. Stream Retrospect below, and keep it locked for their album, which should be out Spring 2020.

L-Vis 1990 Gave Away a 'Decade of Dubz' Before 2020

The beats truly speak for themselves. L-Vis 1990 has made some of the dopest jams I've rocked to this month, so it'd make sense that he'd collect a batch of these bangers into a free download. This is definitely for heads who keep it funky on the dancefloor (and the DJs who provide their soundtrack), straight up and down. Sixteen gems, some original, some edits, all essentail. Stream below, grab for whatever you want to pay via Bandcamp.

Skillz is Back Once Again With His "Rap Up 2019"

With a packed year like 2019, you almost need something like this to help you remember what even happened this year. Agree with his bars or not, Skillz gets props for just keeping this going. Literally done working for the rest of the decade, so why not drop these uncut gems that hit my inbox/Twitter timeline/DM? It's a regular NYE ting, seen? You know, the album with cuts like "INTRO," "GOSPEL," and "BOP" on it. It's exactly what you'd expect it to sound like. Turn this NYE pre-game tape UP. Stream the full mix below.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and MICK Soundtrack Your Summer With 'Summertime 10'

Usually, once I see something like DJ Jazzy Jeff and MICK's Summertime 10 (which in the tenth installment of their annual summer-themed mixtape series), I end up posting it as I'm diving into it. Rich Quick - "Raize Of The Sun" (Music Video)

I just got a notification for this "Raize of the Sun" video from Rich Quick, which is taken from The Beginning Is Nigh, which dropped back in April. I still haven't even properly processed his passing. Rich was a genuine dude who was also genuinely talented, and this clip proves it.

I still don't know how to even talk about him passing. Questions unanswered. Glad there's material of his to still dive into, hoping to either find those answers or just feel his spirit while I'm still on Earth to shout his name. We miss you, Quick.

Heavee Gives Away Gunna Edit [Free Download]

After dropping one of my favorite albums of 2018, Heavee's back with the first of what I hope is many new tracks. Reworking Gunna's "Speed It Up" with that TEKLIFE swing, Heavee proves that the footwork clan ain't nothing to fuck with, or front on. There's not much else to say, honestly; this one is good and you need it in your life. Lehgo.

You can add Heavee's "Speed It Up" rework to your setlist by grabbing it over on Bandcamp.

Mr. Carmack Really Loves Trap

As an old man who is occupying his days with everything but the everyday happenings in the dance music scene, I missed whatever was going on with Mr. Carmack being asked about his trap noodlings. Whatever the case may be, the acclaimed producer dropped I <3 TRAP EP, a three-track EP with trap stylings from three periods in the electronic music genre (2012, 2013, and 2016). The only note on the EP is that all of its inspiration goes to "Hucci, Flosstradamus. Jackal, and Loudpvck," aka some of the fiercest, most consistent producers in the genre during its heyday. Also means you should know what time it is when you press play.

You can grab the full EP over on Bandcamp.

Kozee Unleashes the Perfect '2k19SPRANGMIXXX'

While I highly doubt that the mighty Kozee made this mix with me in mind, her 2019 Spring selections are right up my alley. Not only is she featuring her own productions ("1992"), but she vibed out with all kinds of juke-y jungle footwork bits from the likes of Sinistarr, Phillip D Kick, Audio1, DJ Earl, and plenty more. It's long enough that I'd want to find a cassette to record this on Side A to, just to then throw all kinds of insanity on Side B. Also, Kozee, you can make me mixes any time.

If you want to BOOK Kozee, do so today. You can stream and download the mix below, as well as check out the tracklist.

Dieselboy Previews His 'Heart of Darkness' Tour With Ferocious New Mix

The other day, I realized that I'd been riding for Stateside drum & bass for over two decades. It started with DJ's like Pish Posh and Seen out of NYC, but as I gravitated to the Philly scene, the diabolical Dieselboy has been a staple in my drum & bass diet ever since. I feel like I've only actually seen him DJ once during a wild night in Philly with all of the junglists in the AOL "Ravers" chatroom on hand. He was a robot, with no mix out of place and all bangers being rinsed.

Because he's always been dope, he has to explore new ways of expressing himself. That might be why we only get new DJ mixes form him every few years. Dieselboy's currently on his Heart of Darkness Tour, running through the U.S., and decided to bless the world with a 90+ minute mix, which features his "style of layering tracks that can only be described as “threaded” or “braided” - songs, loops and samples twist around one another in specific ways so that every element enhances those around it." With a tracklist that spans a three-page doc, D threads material from Jam Thieves, Mean Teeth, Phace, Current Value, Signal, and many, many more. It's a rough and rugged ride.

Stream and download the full mix below, and check out the dates up above—if Dieselboy's in your area in the near future, don't play yourselves!

DJ Chap Refixes the '80s With New 'Numbers' EP

Back when I had time to devote to this slice of the internet, I'd put together compilations or mixes to commemorate days like today, rockthedub's 13th anniversary. This dreary Sunday morning? I'll just share a release that's been doing my head in, and cobbles together the ethos that shit site was built on 13 years ago.

DJ Chap crafts an intriguing mix of footwork. I won't say that the idea of full-on reworking cuts in a footwork vein is dead; it happens all of the time. But compared to how the entire electronic music scene was, say, seven years ago? SoundCloud and the like fucked the game up. Anyways, he recently dropped his Numbers EP, which finds him fully revamping classics from Billy Idol, Chaka Khan, Tears for Fears, and plenty more. If you have an idea of what this will sound like, judging from his past work, you've got the right idea, and you're better for it.

Celebrate RTD's 13th year by streaming Chap's latest (foot)work below.

DJ Paypal and DJ Taye Turn Classic Video Game Madness Into the Footwork Anthem "Hammer"

When the world of illegally downloading music was in its infancy, one of the most astonishing feats was doing a search for a video game title and finding a litany of dance remixes of said title. It's like the Rule 34 of electronic music. That's what comes to mind when I keep DJ Paypal and DJ Taye's latest on repeat.

The TEKLIFE representers have been teasing a joint project (playfully done under TAYE//PAL) for a bit while giving us a reason to be excited with their collabs like "Bonfire" and "Chanel". Their release, Computers Smarter Than People, is set to drop on the 22nd of March (or the 29th), but today we get "Hammer," which flips this classic, triumphant video game theme and turns them into a club BANGER. You need this.

You can stream the tune in full below, and grab it for whatever you want over on Bandcamp. They also dropped another tune, "Jump," earlier this month which you can also snag.

DJ Paypal Gave Away His Refreshing Remix of Adam F's "Circles"

With the tempos of footwork and jungle being around the same speed (160 BPM), it's been welcoming to see footwork's finest diving into their jungle bags. Today, DJ Paypal of the TEKLIFE squad shows the world how its done, putting a 2019 footwork shine on Adam F's CLASSIC "Circles." He doesn't go insane with the edits or feel of the tune; it's still just as lush and beautiful as what Adam crafted back in 1995, just with some percussive reworks. This one's available for free, so grab it while you can!

Jaxtella - All-Star Sound (Feb. 2019)

With the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities underway in North Carolina, it makes sense that we'd start a part up here, right? I'm not sure what the drum & bass massive truly looks like in the Trenton area, but bassbin destroyer Jaxtella's representing, and the latest mix he sent over feels like he's fully realizing his sound.

When he he's rinsing out the latest in drum & bass, Patrice McBride is a go-to blend DJ, and it's dope to see him applying those vibes to the dnb scene. Jett I. Masstyr Stands Tall, Proclaims 'I Know God and He Chops Like This'

What an amazing title for a two-track single. RTD favorite Jett I. Masstyr is back with the phenomenally titled I Know God and He Chops Like This, which is an amazing example of knowing your worth. The tracks are HAWD: drums smack you upside the head, strings transport you to new dimensions, and bass rumbles the very earth you're walking on. Dude's not bullshitting (sorry, Black Jesus), and is down to prove it.

Grab both tracks on Bandcamp ASAP, and stream the full single below.

Rob Cave and The Other Guys - "LETS GETS MONEYS"

After dropping another banger with Von Pea, The Other Guys are back with a new project with Lessondary's own Rob Cave, WORD, which is due out on March 22. This seven-track release is going to be a problem...at least that's how it feels when I peep the first single, "LETS GETS MONEYS." Something about the booming instrumental, that vocal flip, and Rob's mixture of solid bars and humor (just peep how his cuts on the hook) makes this one a winner.

Stream "LETS GETS MONEYS" below, and grab it today via Bandcamp.

Inkke Returns to Form With 'FWDK Vol. 2'

This time last year, Inkke blew my mind with FWDK, Vol. 1, which he described as an "homage to Memphis rap," which isn't inaccurate. It was deep, at times dark, and very hypnotic, and about a calendar year later, he returns with the second volume, which is double the fun dark, and even more impressive.

It's hard to categorize what this release is. It could be a beat tape; there's a "here's my demo for those who need to hear my style" vibe in it, but tracks like "Crucifix" are fully-realized. I don't need to hear no emcee doing no rhymes over that. Other times, there are skits (with scratches from DJ Cloudo) that string the more macabre aspect of this beat tape together. It's 22 tracks of mesmerizing sound, and is no-doubt helping me get through the winter months.

You can stream FWDK, Vol. 2 in its entirety below, and cop it via Bandcamp.

Cousin Cole Shares New Year's Day 2019 Mix

While many will drop all of the "new year, new me" and "(insert year) is mine" tweets, IG posts, and FB statuses around the New Year, many of us like to let the work do the talking. When it's time to work, you need a proper soundtrack. For anyone looking to get their mind, body, and spirit right for another year around the sun, Cousin Cole is back with his annual New Year's Day mix.

"Since 2014," Cole shared, "I've been making a mix each year for New Year's Day, comprising spiritual jazz, soul, folk, disco, funk, etc. Originally my idea was to provide something positive to ease you out of your hangover and into a new day / new year. Over time my goals expanded to choose songs that subtly address today's problems, usually with a voice from 30 or 40 years in the past. Since 2016, it has been hard to conceptualize anything that would look towards the era of Trump's presidency with any degree of hope, and I almost gave up on the idea. This year has been no different, but I still managed to make something. All the best to you & yours..."

Press play and power through.
