Wow... Deal has been giving away a SHITLOAD of music, including two batchesof instrumentals. This third instrumental release, DTV's Beat LP, might be my favorite - just a certain kind of cold soul that I need in my life right now. Timeless shit... but don't take my word for it!
Oh, and there are some FRESH hidden gems within the LP. Seek and ye shall find, although if you've been a faithful seeker, you've enjoyed these tunes already.
I've been all about this album for over a year, and over the Thanksgiving holiday, I got word from both Cy Yung and the album's producer, J. Slikk, that SoulTrain Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez will be available on December 15th! What I have for you today is a sampler of what you can expect... and it sounds so fuckin' soulful. Cy and Slikk really put their foot into this one, and that BPA sound is so fluid throughout this project.
It's to feature Rashid Hadee, The Primeridian, ThaioneDavis, Melatone and Indy Sparks, among others, and if I can get my mitts on it before December 15th, I'll see about leaking a cut. Keep it locked!
Khizman "OK" (prod. by Keelay & Zaire): Tomorrow (December 1st), URB will be dropping Khizman's Trophy Winner EP, and features beats from Kee and Zee, Nottz and J.Clyde, with bars from Skyzoo, Jon Bibbs, Twice, Slo Mo and Mic Legacy. Should be an ill one - hit up URB for more details.
Main Flow & Twilight "Freestyle" (prod. by The Custodian Of Records): No, this has nothing to do with vampires. Just some fresh Hip-Hop produced by the boy Custodian, featuring Main Flow (of Mood) and Twilight putting down some furious bars. Nothing more, nothing less - enjoy.
Cymarshall Law ft. JS-1 "Harder Than Thou" (prod. by D-Slaps): Here's a cut from Creator's Kid, an EP which I've mentioned numerous times from the homey Cymar. I told Aubrey that I coulda put this out on RTD Records, but they had already linked up with HiPNOTT for this one. Oddly enough, I can't even get RTD001 out to the races, so it's probably all for the better. Just like I told the homey Theo Martins, "always the bridesmaid..." lol. Anyways, look for this one to drop January 19th.
Johnny Spanish "Shining" (prod. by CHOPS): Here's a cut that Spanish did to some ill CHOPS instrumental for CHOPS' A Lot On My Plate... But I'm Still Hungry, which dropped on Thanksgiving (Steady Bloggin' got it). Spanish hit me with this a minute ago for an untitled compilation I'm trying to drop before the end of 2009. No title, no set date. It'll be out soon though...
Genesis Elijah "I'm Doing It": I hit you guys with the video for "I'm Doing It" last week, and now have the MP3 for you to sink your teeth into. Looks like Genny is on the comeback, with a number of EPs and projects set to drop (hopefully) before the end of 2009, including the Beezwax-produced Civil Unrest EP, the Neehi-produced Re-Introduction EP and From The Bottom Of My Heart, produced by Johnny Simps. I'll keep you posted.

The Commons "Wombat College": Here's another instance where I had no idea what to expect when the MP3s came over to the rock the dub War Room. The Commons rep Greensboro, NC, and these cuts come from their next project (Umm..Tracks), and I'm perplexed. Lyrically, I'm not terribly impressed, but the laid-back keys on "Wombat College" allow for some uncomplicated 16s. Not sure who produced this, but I fucks with it. The bonus track is where I got confused... just seems like they need more WOMBAT, less PATNA. That's just me. You check it out and decide.
Wordsmith "Block Banger" (prod. by Capish): Judged by the fire insturmentals and features on these Black Friday bangers that Dub MD sent on, this Overdue & Underrated mixtape from Wordsmith is set to drop on December 7th might be his best work yet! Feels different, like the hard work is paying off, and cats are really taking notice to his flavor. Blast these!
Bonus Beats Wordsmith ft. Kontact & Black Knight, Junclassic, RatheMC & Soulstice "Ladder of Success" (prod. by Decadez)
Crushing blow to the DJ community. Looks like Technics will be stopping production of their 1200 and 1210 line of turntables in February 2010, due to "an increasing decline in sales", which makes sense given the rise of CDJs, Serato boxes and other vinyl killers. With cats like DJ AM and Roc Raida passing away, 2009 has been a huge deathblow to the art of the turntablist, shit I followed intensely for like 2 or 3 years in the late 90s. While I know Hip-Hop isn't dead, and DJs will still adapt and find their own lane with emerging technology, this won't bode well for vinyl enthusiasts.

Spotted this mixover on Rosenberg Radio, and while I'm not up on DJ Uncle Q, I love what he did here. This is a great blend of styles, something you could drop during Thanksgiving dinner and mellow out to, drinking some of that good red wine with your mom and reminiscing about laughs from the past. I'm thankful to be alive and to be spending Thanksgiving with my family. Hope you're doing the same thing, or doing something else that you enjoy.
Stealth "What I'm Thankful For": This cut just touched down in the inbox. Here are some words from the boy Stealth... "Happy Turkey Day to you and yours! I decided to do something kind of special which was record a track giving thanks to all the family and friends who have been supporting me. I also took time to shoutout the bloggers by name who have been holding me down. I'm thankful for your continued support. Hope you enjoy the track. Happy Turkey Day!". Eat up!
The Fat Boys "All You Can Eat": You know, Thanksgiving means family, friends and being thankful for all the blessings you have in your life. It also means some bomb ass food. Headed over to my mom's house in a bit, and I'm rockin' my funky-fresh Fat Boys tee, ready to tackle what will be on my plate. I hope you can snuggle with a loved one and enjoy a great meal, whether its a McDonald's value meal or a splendid cornucopia of delights from your moms.
Kendrick Lamar ft. Rapper Big Pooh "Thanksgiving": No, this track doesn't really have anything to do with Turkey Day, but you will be thankful for this warm slice of Hip-Hop pie. Or something. Save a plate for me!
Nicki Minaj "Saxon": See, once I think we're doing the right thing with these Hip-Hop/dubstep hybrids, I have to hear bullshit like Weezy's Young Money wackstress going in over Chase & Status' "Saxon". She doesn't even know what the fuck to do with this! A nigga like Elucid would rip this track into mincemeat, and Minaj wastes two minutes and 18 seconds chanting mindless rubbish.
So last night, I had a dream that I was sitting in a studio with Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg, listening to them record an episode of Juan Epstein; for some reason, Peter was reciting rap lyrics with the word "nigga" in them, but saying like "nicca" and shit, which was odd. It's something he says he doesn't do, so I'm not sure why it happened in my dream. Come to your own conclusions... what's deep is, Rosenberg tweets today that they were recording a brand new episode of Juan Epstein, which hasn't had a proper episode since their live show back in June (not counting the bonus episode with Ben Lyons). It's ill, because the first episode they ever did was a Thanksgiving episode, so to have them kick thestart of their third season on Turkey Day Eve is a blessing. It's another behind-the-scenes of the morning show episode, which is fun. And K. Foxx is in the building.
Bonus Beats Here's the "Thanksgiving Forever" song that Rosenberg and Rico did, and has been getting a lot of play on the morning show. Shouts to Ciph.
I told you guys that this DJ Booth-presented mixtape was on the horizon, and it looks like they let it loose today. 10 ill tracks from one ill MC = guaranteed satisfaction. Try it on.
Homeboy Sandman "Angels With Dirty Faces" (prod. by J57): J57 (of the Brown Bag AllStars) just hit me with this unreleased Sandman cut, which Brooklyn Bodega says is off of his forthcoming album. That beat is dumb epic, and Sand doesn't joke around with those lyrics. Some shit to put on in your headphones and really think/reflect. Word is Preemo and Rosenberg are already getting some spins behind this one... check it out.
BOOGNIGHTS "Let It Go": BOOG hit me with this cut from the From The Underground Up mixtape from Hiptics.com, which should be dropping momentarily. The full tape drops on December 8th, and features cuts from ill MCs like D.Julien and Amor Jones, as well as some interesting interviews from a host of talented cats. For now, deal with the pummeling kicks and interesting vocal sample of this banger from BOOGNIGHTS.
I love hearing young niggas with drive, and from the first second of the intro of this new mixtape from Joe Clark, you can hear the determination and drive in his voice. What I was expecting was the combination of Clark's fresh lyrics and the interesting production throughout. Shouts to Buck Marley for putting me onto this - I'm definitely a fan, after peepin' this, and I think you might wanna throw this one on as well.
Cymarshall Law "Critically Acclaimed Freestyle": This cat doesn't stop with the freestyles - its been at LEAST once a week! Word from Freedom Ent is that news on the release of the Creator's Kid EP and other Cymar shit will be coming soon!
I was conversing with my boy Deal The Villain about his beats, and he had the nerve to tell me that he feels his beats on The DTV Beat Tape were some of his worst beats, but he took it a step further - he sent me this ready-made, sample-free beat CD to prove it. And boy has he. I keep tellin' y'all that Jersey is active, and free fire like this is just an example. Hit up Deal for some heat on the beats.
Elucid "Run Away" (prod. by Inko): Damn. Sub Bass Diet just dropped, the "Cheap Suit" single is available for like a buck, and there's STILL plenty face-melting for you fuckfaces. Gutta's "never emo like Kid Cudi", and this cut is proof positive of that. I was actually rockin' to this last night, and the line I quoteddrew some excitement, which makes sense. Faithful Elucid fans might've heard the stream Inko dropped recently, but I just got the OK to let loose with this one. If you fucked with SBD, you know what time it is. If you're still sleepin'... go jump out of a moving train, you lame.
Rickie Jacobs "I'm So Appalled": One of BuckMarleyXXX.com's Army, Rickie airs out this 'Ye beat. Oddly enough, Air Jacobs is set to drop in 2010. You should've seen much much music of his dropped on RTD, both behind the boards and on the mic, so Air Jacobs should be pretty grisly. Keep it locked.
