Complexion Drops a Gang Starr Mix For 'Luke Cage'

If you follow what I do at the day job, you've seen me write hella words about Netflix's new Marvel series, Luke Cage. One thing I loved was how showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker made sure to name each of the 13 episodes of the first season after a Gang Starr song. During my convo with Cheo, he spoke on how the titles really weave the tale of Luke's journey, although lyrically there weren't any gems to the story.

While the official Luke Cage playlist is out, I'd not seen anyone put the Gang Starr songs referenced in the episode titles together...until now. Shouts to Complexion for putting this one together swiftly. If you're not up on this legendary duo, get your knowledge on. RIP Guru.

Interesting show here. Shouts to Phil for keeping it fair but honest with his interview with Solar, yes 7 Grand "super producer" Solar. Solar speaks on his thoughts about Guru two years removed from his passing, the Gangstarr Foundation and more. Nothing too crazy, and as Phil says, it's a touchy situation, but I'm not mad at him bringing Solar in. It's still #FuckSolar in my book, and him calling Guru a "sweetheart" is mad suspect. Also kind of sideeying him about calling Guru underrated. But who am I? Of COURSE the best of independent and underground Hip-Hop is played, and another dope edition of Side Beatz. You already know.

Hopefully you guys heard Mister Cee's Throwback At Noon from yesterday, where he did an all-Gangstar mix in tribute to Guru's passing. He announced that DJ Premier was going to be touching down at Hot 97 for Flex's show last night, and earlier today, djpremierblog.com posted the audio from Preemo's tribute. Just like it was last year, this is a celebration. Rest in peace, Guru!

Fat Joe "I'm Gone" (prod. by DJ Premier): Last week, Preem's jawn with Bun B was my shit, now my savior is this banger from Crack's The Darkside, Vol. 1. I messed with "No Problems", but this is my favorite off the album, hands down. Perfect beat to match the mood; apparently this was made the night Guru passed, and you can feel it. Damn. I'm not sure if you're aware, but in the aftermath of Guru's death, a lot of hatred and talk about Solar has come to light. Not only is there www.fucksolar.com, which plays as a hub for information, interviews and such that are giving us a bigger picture about what went on between them, but the twitter accounts for @Solar_7Grand, @7GrandRecords and @GuruGangStarr have all been hacked, with a shit load of disgusting information on Solar's shadiness. Here's a package of what's leaked so far (need the password?).
