I can't believe it's been 10 years ago today that Christopher Wallace, the man known as the Notorious B.I.G. (AKA Biggie Smalls AKA BIG Poppa aka The Black Frank White and affectionately (and accurately) known as the Greatest of All Time) was gunned down in a still-unsolved murder in Los Angeles. I don't have enough webspace to break down how often I listen to his music, how much he is missed worldwide, and how fucked up his catalogue hasn't been as big as Pac's or others who are deemed the greatest. Canibus said it best when he said "the greatest rapper of all time died on March 9th", and here we are, 10 years later, still reminiscing. Add this post to the canon, as I plan on linking to a bunch of things going on in memory of BIG on this day:
- Rizoh of The Rap Up posted up the well put together Mick Boogie mixtape, Unbelievable: A Tribute to Biggie Smalls (download here - we need some mirrors!), which features classics, revamped lyrics with new beats, a who's who of Hip-Hop and some lost gems, like Big's Lyricist Lounge freestyle. Grab that, blaze some backwoods, and enjoy.
- Nah Right's eskay has already posted videos to "Juicy" and "Warning" at the time of this post, and I am guessing he will be throwing more up as the day progresses.
- Spine Magazine has ripped some classic cassette shits to mp3: "Biggie Got The Hype Shit", "Me And My Bitch (Original Promo Mix)", "50 Grand Demo (7 Minute Version)", "Come On (ft. Sadat X) (Lord Finesse Version)" and "Machine Gun Funk (DJ Premier Remix)". In listening to these, I think some might be mixed up, but I am not sure, as I haven't heard ALL of them before. They also posted a yousendit link to a tribute mix done by DJ MK.
- AOL has a "R.I.P. B.I.G." 15 minute tribute video up on their site, featuring Mister Cee, Jadakiss, Styles P and the Allhiphop.com crew breaking down Big's personality and artistry.
- Speaking of Allhiphop, their features editor Paine posted up a dope editorial on the Notorious One, as well as a "Reflections" piece with quotes from many Hip-Hop luminaries, dropping their thoughts on various Big-related topics.
- Check out part of XXL's tribute to Big, featured in the lastest issue (Lil Wayne cover) of XXL.
That's all I'm seeing right now that's truly of interest, aside from telling you to go grab that Greatest Hits package, just to have all of them joints on one proper CD. Or not, most of you know all of them shits by heart anyways lol.
Just one more thing to link... The Lox's "We'll Alway Love Big Poppa", which is randomly not on Youtube properly for some odd reason. Check it out:

YO Biggie is definately missed. There is a void in Hip Hop that still has not been filled. Over on Highbrid Nation we are celebrating Biggie's life and encouraging people to stop by and just give thier thoughts on the late veteran. You may want to check it out.
