RTD10

That's right, rockthedub.com has been a thing in my life for the last decade, which is crazy. What started out as a way for me to unload a backlog of reviews and interviews I had piling up turned into a labor of love that allowed me to release compilations people actually talked about, release quality music from New Jersey-based artists, and ultimately lead me to my job at Complex, which has sadly taken me from regular updates here at RTD over the last almost four years.

All of that said, I can't help but be grateful for all of the readers who've stuck through, all of the peers I've talked shop with, and all of the amazing artists who've shown love. RTD has taught me a lot about life, writing, and the industry, and without it, I don't know what path my life would have taken.

In any case, Here's RTD10, a 10-track EP/compilation from a number of artists who have shown love to RTD over the last decade. It contains exclusives from Black Collar Biz and Blahzé Misfits, my favorite tracks from the RTD releases from Deal - The Villain and Emcee Jermaine, and gems from J57, RoQy TyRaiD, the 30 and Over League, Nato Caliph, the Rap Mayor Tone Liv, and Jordanian rapper Satti. Short and sweet. Hit the jump for more details/credits/words on this EP, which is available for free download. And THANK YOU FOR ROCKING WITH THE DUB!

Nato Caliph ft. Ackurate, T - Dubb O, and Tef Poe - "EVEN"

Feels like it's been forever since I've repped some new Nato Caliph and the St. Louis squad in general. With the Mike Brown shit still ruminating in our sphere, hearing those voices is important. "EVEN" features another RTD vet in Tef Poe, and the entire squad goes in over this track.

This is the first cut from Nato's new EP, A Prequel to God, which is out now and available for free via natocaliph.com. Don't play yourself.

Nato Caliph ft. Prince Ea & Sadat X "Identity Crisis"

If you're playing smart, you know this track. I featured it on #onlybuilt4hulksharelinx back in March, and while it sounded DOPE, it wasn't the final. Nato hit me with the final, which dropped on iTunes in April, and I think you guys should spend the $1 and cop this. Not often that my site's been shouted out in a track with a bonafide Hip-Hop legend and one of my favorite MCs from St. Lou. Well, do us all a favor and support that good music.

#onlybuilt4hulksharelinx

This project has been a thing of comedy. It should've been out before 2012 even hit, but I was looking for either proper versions of tracks or promised jawns. Had to let this one go - the idea was too good. I broke the (skewed) science behind the title in the liner notes, and won't go into it all here. Featured artists include Rhymageddon, Mr. Fickle, Rickie Jacobs, AWKWORD, BURNTmd, Touchphonics, Daniel Joseph, Dutch New York and more. A hair under 45 minutes or so. Fucked up part is, hulkshare wasn't letting me upload a .zip (or a .rar!) to their site, so the punchline got merked. Sharebeast, thank you.

Nato Caliph ft. Family Affair & GLC "Consumption"

Nato Caliph ft. Family Affair & GLC "Consumption" (prod. by Trifeckta): Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but The Force has been collaborating with the homey GLC lately. Poebama had GLC featured on the “Out The Kitchen” remix, and now G hops on this new Caliph jawn, alongside the Family Affair. This is some of that edutainment shit – cats bring the heavy with the lyrical content, but bring it forth in a package that’s good for your speakerboxes. Love seeing the Midwest click up and bring forth some quality Hip-Hop. No word on where you’ll find Caliph ending up, but I imagine them niggas have some kind of project (or projects) on the horizon.

Nato Caliph "Appreciation"

Nato Caliph "Appreciation": It’s kind of wild, having a collective like The Force. Any week you’re bound to receive some ill Hip-Hop from the middle of the map. These cats keep it pushing, and Caliph is keepin’ it poppin’ with his Knowledge Cipher release, which you can cop on iTunes or CD Baby right now. He allowed me to leak this jawn out, which is kind of a call-to-arms for those who have a singular voice that’s not heard for whatever reason. It’s not often you hear of cats expounding on their non-boozing, non-using ways. Just a nigga who’s got talents and trying to elevate his people, his sound, for the masses. He knows what he wants, and just wants that respect. Kind of a bold statement TBH, but Nato Caliph is all about keeping it right.

The Force... Everybody Wins

You should already be up on The Force, aka the STL conglomerate that encompasses artists like Tef Poe, Tech Supreme, Nato Caliph, Vandalyzm, Rockwell Knuckles, Gotta Be Karim and mad other artists that you should be up on (if not, this Riverfront Times article should be more than helpful). Next week, they are releasing a CD of their singles entitled Everybody Wins, which hits shops next week (well, it'll be in St. Louis' Vintage Vinyl). Proceeds of the sale of the album will go to helping misfortunate and homeless children with the help of Patches Clothing, Ben & Jerry's and Molina Healthcare. Gotta love Hip-Hop with a purpose. After the cut, you can find a download link and the tracklist, which is a who's who of St. Louis Hip-Hop - truly an awesome disc, and if you can cop it, please do. Shouts to Nato for passing this one to me - love seeing talented brothers on something positive.
