1/2 of the Spitzwell Brothers has sorted out his first solo mixtape, mixed by DJ K-Ro, with beats from brandUn DeShay, Dante Lewis and Brian Flores. It also features a grip of NC MCs on it. Pop your collar and rock to this.
Good to hear that a couple of the leaks the Spitzwell Brothers have been sending are now on a proper project. This FreEP finds the TSB over beats from Ced Hughes, Damu The Fudgemunk and Syd Justice, eschewing thoughts on how fly they are, how ill they are and just thoughts on what the fuck is going on in life – theirs and in general. It’s funny – at times, I listen to their shit and realize how old I’m becoming, but then a track like “Crystal Ball of Dreams” will come on, and it sounds JUST LIKE the shit I grew up vibing to when I was trying to find the perfect beat. Don’t sleep on ther TSB, trust. I’ve got a feeling their live show is just as fly as their gear.
The Spitzwell Brotherz "We Are": This is a cut I got passed via twitter, I downloaded and lost track of where it went. TSB have been quietly amassing a grip of tracks, I can feel it, but they’re being mum like a motherfucker. No (UK) pun intended. They keep their fresh and fly persona alive over this fuzzy beat, some shit you could spit to yourself while fixing your intergalactic space station. I’m anti-fly, but I respect their flavor and don’t doubt their proclamations. I just don’t wanna go off into space. Fuck that shit. I like the ground.
Whiz Kid & TSB "Lace Em Up (Chuck Taylors)": I used to rock Converse back in the day (when I was like seven), and love the kicks, but I don’t think my grown-up style affords me the ability to rock them. I’d like to fuck with them and khakis on the reg, but I don’t rock khakis on the reg, and I’m not sure if I’m trying to rearrange my style for a pair of kicks. I might have to, b/c I fuck with their look the way Whiz and TSB do in this tribute track. Bouncy horn-driven beat opens these cats up about how they rock their Chucks. Need to open the closet door on a Saturday to this, trying to decide how you’re properly going to lay them jeans atop the Chucks.
Frankie Phre$h "Who's Fault Is It": Uh oh – new Spitzwell! Over Raekwon’s “Ice Cream” instrumental, Frankie just goes ham. Bacon flavored ice cream. Dude runs down the ills of a number of things going on – sounds like he took a look at nonsense on Facebook or twitter and decided to speak on some of the bullshit out there. There’s a lot of shook niggas who turn heavyweight behind QWERTY keyboards, but twitter definitely makes things hectic. I hope niggas keep fouling up, so we can get more dope freestyles like this.
TSB come back with a project that’s true to it’s title. Grabbing the Basic Cable beat tape from Swiff D (who produces for Pac Div), they essentially illegally stole some cable and created their own EP from those beats. It’s good to hear the guys rockin’ these left-of-center beats, as their flavor isn’t of the cookie cutter variety – even on tracks that might be more “basic”, they turn up the flows and really explore, vocally. Love hearing cats inspired by dope projects, and this is an example of art begetting more art. Enjoy that.

Syd Justice ft. Frankie Phresh "More Than Enough": The bol @SydJustice flipped Little Brother's "Not Enough" with Spitzwell Brother @LetsGoPhresh, going ham over crack beats. Being a North Carolina nigga, I figure he had enough clout to do this, and the end result is so so ill. If you're digging Syd, check out his We Want Justice mixtape, which you can grab HERE. Syd's got a new mixtape on the horizon, Live From The EastSide, and this cut is from it - be on the look.
The Spitzwell Brotherz "Hollywood Annulment": I was kind of surprised at how much I forgot I dug the "Hollywood Divorce" instrumental. Beat is different - love the melody. ANWYAYS, the TSB go bananers on this one, mainly because it's been a minute since they've touched down. I also forget how much I love their tracks until I let this one play - intricate.
The Spitzwell Brotherz ft. Ced Hughes "I'm Gone": Damn. Been wondering what TSB are doing, and just got passed this new futuristic cut featuring Ced Hughes. Nothing too heavy on the lyrics, just 3 cats bodying a particularly dope beat.
I hit you guys with "The Spit Is Yours", and just got wind that The Clean Cut Emcees is available. Head on over to Spitzwell Nation and grab the full and edited versions of this new mixtape, and introduce yourself to some cool ass spitterz. Shouts to Frankie Phresh.
The Spitzwell Brotherz "To Spit Is Yours": Wow. Franke Phresh hit me with this over the weekend, but didn't give me much info - like this is over Black Sheep's "The Choice Is Yours" instrumental! Taken from their The Clean Cut Emcees project, Spitzwell doesn't leave anything overturned. Bars upon bars upon bars is what they have. Can't wait for more of this project to leak out!
The Spitzwell Brotherz "Do Some Dance": Word to the wise - if you're asking a grown as man to do more than a two-step with a smile, you asking too much. I used to be able to do the Running Man and shit, but stanky legs and all this other shit is too much for me. Shouts to Frankie Phresh for this one.
The Spitzwell Brotherz "What Happened": Frankie Phresh of the Spitzwell Brotherz hit me with this new cut from their forthcoming mixtape, A Dozen Glazed, which is set to drop in October 2009. They take Amerie's latest banger and really ask what's going on in the current state of Hip-Hop. Add this to your conversation(s) on "where is the game going", OK?
The Spitzwell Brotherz "Cool Outrageous Spitz": I posted their Premium Blend mixtape over the weekend, and Frankie Phresh hit me with their mastery of Fonzworth Bentley's "Everybody" instrumental. Yeah, their moniker fits their skills perfectly. Watch out for more from these cats on RTD, trust.
While I'm GLAD the Spitzwell Brotherz got at me about their Premium Blend mixtape, I wish they had hit me up back in March, when this dropped! DJ E$ comes correct with the cuts, and these guys not only spit well, but have a knack for picking some interesting beats. Their sense of humor is linked so closely to their skill. Wicked blend.
