The Primeridian Da Crack A Dawn

As I clean out the queue of sick releases I’d accumulated, this recently-released mixtape from The Primeridian is something you need to give a listen, forreal. Brought to you by The Hip-Hop Project, Ruby Hornet, Jugrnaut, All Natural Inc. & DJ Booth and mixed by Cosm Roks, this 27-track opus finds this duo doing their THING with a host of friends, from Pugs Atomz, Black Spade, Cy Yung, Add-2, Mike Flo and Buff1 to beats from Rashid Hadee, Tall Black Guy, J Slikk, Twilite Tone and more. I’m hoping this isn’t the first time you’ve foxed with Primeridian, but if you love that Chicago-stamped Hip-Hop, this is all you. That Windy City Soul is so prevalent in this, with a grip of disgustingly fresh flows. I can only hope a No DJ version of some of these jams becomes available, because this shit will be soundtracking my early Summer!

Simeon Viltz, Pugs Atomz & Neak "Do What You Can"

Simeon Viltz, Pugs Atomz & Neak "Do What You Can" (prod. by Slot-A): Neak’s a cat I’ve been getting into more – loving the last couple tracks I’ve heard him featured on. Primeridian and Pugs Atomz are already RTD favorites, so the three of these cats dropping a banger for the sixth edition of their #illRaps series? Major. AND it’s a Dilla tribute? This has some fresh vibes to it – Soul Bounce, forreal. Once that blunt hits you in the pocket, you might be up doing the high dance to this. You know the dance – your favorite bottle of beer or red cup in one hand, a lit L in the other, eyes closed, just rocking. Yeah, I knew you’d know the dance. Fresh.

The Primeridian ft. Mike Flo "Full Throttle"

The Primeridian ft. Mike Flo "Full Throttle" (prod. by Ten Sei): Interesting cut from Primeridian. Ten Sei hooked up a Rock-influenced track here, which gets kind of psychedelic at points. Reminds me of the organ-heavy acid Rock from decades ago, which always had ill grooves IMO. Primeridian and Mike Flo let their minds go wild on this one, bringing both the aggressive and the esoteric on this. Expect this to be featured on Primeridian's Crack A Dawn mixtape, which will be mixed by Cosm Rocks and presented by The Hip Hop Project.

Cy Yung & J. Slikk Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez

I've literally been hyping this album since June of 2008, when "Dreamcatcher Revisited" leaked, and it's almost surreal to finally have this opus on my harddrive. Cy Yung and J. Slikk have been through a lot making Soul Train Dancer, their tribute to Rosie Perez (and yes, fuck those other guys, these two BEEN on that Rosie shit). Completely produced by Slikk, Cy goes off, and these two epitomize what's missing within the game. Classic samples? True lyricism? A backpacker's aesthetic? Check all of those, and then some. This is actually a great time to drop the release, with all of the leaves falling and the temperatures dropping - it's a time to get nostalgic, and this back to the future flavor is the stuff (wet) dreams (about Rosie in White Men Can't Jump) are made of. Featured MCs include Rashid Hadee, The Primeridian, Wordsmith, Melatone, Indy Sparks and plenty more. This shit is better than you thought it'd be, and truer than the first time you thanked God for the left nipple... and the right nipple. BPA.

"Cuz I feel like she is us, groundbreaking..."
