REUPSPOT Presents F*ck Cancer

Talk about a cause I can get with. My Pop-Pop suffered from two forms of cancer, shit killed him, so I can totally get behind the ideal of "fuck cancer". Many of you might have friends, family members or whomever get ravaged by some form of cancer, and you know like I do: shit ain't easy. REUPSPOT has already helped form a cancer research team, which you can join and donate funds to, but they also sorted out this tape featuring heads like Scolla, Playboy Tre, Marky, Frank Ramz, Dee Goodz, K. Sparks, NatStar, Wordsmith, Yung Nate and plenty more, all dropping gems on the topic. Join the fight and sing the anthems. Props to REUP for this one.

Cyrano Sinatra x Dub MD - Madicinal Libationz 2

You guys might remember Madicinal Libationz, the Cy Yung & Dub MD project that found Cyrano going in over a number of Madlib instrumentals. The powers-that-be shut that one down, so Cy and Dub decided to reimagine this one; I'll let them tell it...

Cyrano Sinatra (f.k.a. Cyrano aka Cy Yung) has reconnected with Dub MD to help remove a blemish from their immaculate first collaboration, 2009's 'Madicinal Libationz'. After assembling one of the most diverse casts of Hip-Hop underground at the time, 'Madicinal Libationz' was received with praise but ran into roadblocks to reaching as many as it could have, but this 'Bitchless Brew' will not have that problem.

The 'B*tchless Brew' features production from one of the UK's best kept secrets, Magic-Boy, Cyrano's familia, Centric, J. Slikk, Cynergy Soundz and Sharpcuts and extended fam from NC Hip-Hop's stash of heatrock-makers, this is what should have been! Brought to you by Kevin Nottingham and RockTheDub. The project is minus a few choice cuts that will make their remix appearance for the forthcoming Anniversary edition.

No better way for Dub MD to say farewell to his freely-given, classic co-sign mixtape series than with this re-invention project, a return to the buffet of lyrical wordplay Cy dropped in April of 2009. And this is only the beginning, Cyrano and Dub MD will continue to keep the flame of Underground Hip-Hop lit. Sinatra's 2012 will feature more from his 2-man group Steadyflow (with Sharp), as well as complete projects produced by Centric, J. Slikk, DJ Husky, DJ J-Rell and Doc Verbz.

This will be also be Dub MD's final "FREE" artist project, stay tuned over the next couple of months his official debut EP entitled "The Requiem" which features the best sub-surface hip-hop has to offer including Vandalyzm, Substantial, Sha Stimuli, Braille, Kam Moye, Spec Boogie, Kel Spencer, 8thW1, Genesis Elijah + more. Along with the exclusive instrumental album "P.U.S.S.Y." with D.C. producer Judah and Universal Indie Records.

Wordsmith "Rhymesayer Revivial"

I'm telling you, the work I was doing when interviewing cats like Wordsmith years back are the direct reason why rockthedub is even in existence, so I have to give him all the props. He might not realize what that work did for me and my focus. In any case, Words brings a laidback beat into new light, turning this revival into something more - this feels more like a mission statement, laying the foundation of what he's about when he goes into these numerous projects. This is another jawn from his King Noah mixtape, which soundsl ike it might be something you Internets come latelies need to be waiting on.

Wordsmith "Grudges & Growing Pains"

Wordsmith "Grudges & Growing Pains" (prod. by Benny Rome):You know what happens when them horns come out... Wordsmith has allowed his Nu Revolution crew to shine, but he's back with his next tape, King Noah, addressing a number of social issues, from homophobia to racism and politics. There's a lot of hatred out there, no doubt, but you haters need a fucking hobby, forreal. Try rapping - even though you won't match what the homey Words has going on. Bmore through your door.

Kontact & Black Knight ft. Wordsmith, K. Sparks, Rickie Jacobs & Tese Fever "Mic Checka

Kontact & Black Knight ft. Wordsmith, K. Sparks, Rickie Jacobs & Tese Fever "Mic Checka" (prod. by Certified): Gotta love Das EFX samples, even if I’m not sold on that fuzzy bass used in this. On their third single, Tact n Black call in for back-up, with Bmore instrumental murderers like Wordsmith and Rickie Jacobs to lay some heat on this one. Good to hear how each MC rides this beat – they do their own thing, but it doesn’t sound too hectic or confusing. I’d say after this, your mic has been thoroughly checked. Pause.

Kontact & Black Knight “Free”

Kontact & Black KnightFree” (prod. by Benny Rome): Took long enough, but it looks like Wordsmith’s Nu Revolution camp is going in with their own project. Tact N Black have their Eye Of The Storm mixtape dropping on July 25th, and they released this first leak, which works wonders. Not to say you wouldn’t know who these two cats are, but with a dude on his grind like Words is, it can be difficult to get them their own spot, so after putting on Whitefolkz, it makes sense for these two to get theirs. Rome’s cooked up a banger for them, and they ride that shit to perfection. Great intro.

Whitefolkz Year of the Dogg

LinkAfter building MAD anticipation, the NU Revolution camp has brought forth Whitefolkz' new mixtape, Year of the Dogg, showing the multifaceted fury that 'Folkz brings to the game. I personally dig that he does the majority of this dolo - aside from a pair of posse cuts and a Pro'Verb feature, this 12-track release is an all-'Folkz party. He brings some boisterous banger, some more sentimental songs and some skraight up Club smashers. Dude's got it on lock - this could definitely be his year! Don't sleep!

The NU Revolution Camp Super Hero Theme Music Vol. 1

Good to hear the final product from this four-man crew. Headed by Wordsmith, Nu Revolution has been a force to be reckoned with. I remember first hearing cats like Black Knight & Kontact do their thing, and with strong projects from the homey Whitefolkz coming up in the last year, it really made sense for him to be invited into the fold. I dropped the insane video for “Pressure Cooker” earlier today, and that’s probably one of the best examples of what this crew is about. Having fun, dropping tight rhymes and bringing it back to the essence. Everyone comes correct on this, and if you’re been a fan of the NU Revolu, you’ll know beats from Strada, Street Level, Lucki Handz and more are just what proper super heroes need for their adventures. Vibe to this.

The NU Revolution Camp "Freedom Theme"

The NU Revolution Camp "Freedom Theme" (prod. by Rafpak): Most of the time, I’m on some depression aggro shit. Dark beats, deep themes. But when I’m on my uplifting ish? Wordsmith is where it’s at. "Freedom Theme" sounds like something I’d blast as a runaway slave, escaping my captors. Or blast while watching Fourth of July fireworks over a beautiful body of water. Or just when I think positively about what I do like about our country. With so much hate and despair regarding our country, laws and politics in general, it’s good to have inspirational tracks like this.
