Mr. Carmack Really Loves Trap

As an old man who is occupying his days with everything but the everyday happenings in the dance music scene, I missed whatever was going on with Mr. Carmack being asked about his trap noodlings. Whatever the case may be, the acclaimed producer dropped I <3 TRAP EP, a three-track EP with trap stylings from three periods in the electronic music genre (2012, 2013, and 2016). The only note on the EP is that all of its inspiration goes to "Hucci, Flosstradamus. Jackal, and Loudpvck," aka some of the fiercest, most consistent producers in the genre during its heyday. Also means you should know what time it is when you press play.

You can grab the full EP over on Bandcamp.

rockthedub radio 033: Electronic AF

This week, we do things a little differently. Instead of being two hours of wall-to-wall hip-hop, we take things into more of a electronic lane. Why? Well, I'm hoping people haven't slept on the RTDMIX series that started earlier this month. Also, I've been on a grime kick.

For the first half hour, I drop in a bunch of new material, featuring Kemba, ScHoolboy Q, and Desiigner, but then dipped into more of a grime ting with Trim, The Bug, and Flowdan, before rounding things out properly. I then slapped on the new mixes from Dev79 and Reid Speed, and I want more of you to get acquainted with our other podcast series. Sue me.

When you're done suing me, subscribe to rockthedub radio on iTunes.

DJ Wonder Presents AnimalStatus EP 18 (3/06/2013)

I love that Wonder can drop his remix of fucking "Black Hole Sun" then follow it up with Kavinsky. Straight AnimalStatuS. Also love that he's taken things from the old school, be it original tracks or revamped cuts in the form of remixery. Dude goes in. You already know.

DJ Wonder presents AnimalStatus EP13 (01/30/2013)

13 is unlucky for most, but DJ Wonder was like "fuck that" and kicked off this week's edition of AnimalStatuS with a special world premiere of Carnage's "SpaceMan". And it didn't stop there; he finds cuts from Clicks & Whistles, Baauer, and himself thrown smack up against Project Pat, Le1F, KRNDN and motherfucking Tyga. Ferocious, bitches. Who else has this?!

Once again, it's on. DJ Wonder's AnimalStatuS went everywhere, from new Green Lantern to some fucking Gnarls Barkley, with a grip of Carnage, Jay-Z, CRNKN, A Tribe Called Quest and much more. Diversity, snitches. Deal with it.

"It's A Trap" (mixed by Disc Jockey Nappy)

2012 was undeniably the year of the Trap. The EDM scene flocked to this sound (thanks, Flosstradamus!), and cats who might've been making dubstep or Moombahton were now bringing out the 808s. Maybe it's the influx of rap tracks produced by Lex Luger, maybe it's just a desire to start something anew, but Trap was in. And will be in, with players like Baauer, Clicks & Whistles, TNGHT, and others making even more noise. My buddies at TheRapUp (whattup, Jaap?!) got put onto the sounds, and figured it'd make sense to educate the masses on some of the best examples of the sound in 2012, and who else to bring it to you than the one like Disc Jockey Nappy?! 50 minutes of 808 delight. Maybe you should peep the trailer, grab your sabers and hit play! Full tracklist after the jump.

My Favorites of 2012

I spend a fuckload of time listening to music. I judge how much I fuck with the music by how long the shit stays on my BlackBerry (fuck you, I ride for mine). Here's the top tracks that I just couldn't delete from my life. Hopefully they were a part of yours...
