DJ Paypal and DJ Taye Turn Classic Video Game Madness Into the Footwork Anthem "Hammer"

When the world of illegally downloading music was in its infancy, one of the most astonishing feats was doing a search for a video game title and finding a litany of dance remixes of said title. It's like the Rule 34 of electronic music. That's what comes to mind when I keep DJ Paypal and DJ Taye's latest on repeat.

The TEKLIFE representers have been teasing a joint project (playfully done under TAYE//PAL) for a bit while giving us a reason to be excited with their collabs like "Bonfire" and "Chanel". Their release, Computers Smarter Than People, is set to drop on the 22nd of March (or the 29th), but today we get "Hammer," which flips this classic, triumphant video game theme and turns them into a club BANGER. You need this.

You can stream the tune in full below, and grab it for whatever you want over on Bandcamp. They also dropped another tune, "Jump," earlier this month which you can also snag.

Atari Blitzkrieg "Striving 2wards Freshness"

Am I the only one who chuckled about a cat named Atari Blitzkrieg doing a project that pays homage to the Super Nintendo, Super? Anyways, 'Tari Blitz dices a sick Krohme instrumental (that has heavy use of the Amen break), painting pictures of a '90s kid living in Hip-Hop and video gaming. I was never a huge SNES head - I fucked with that Genesis, but the SNES was definitely superior. Super features MCs like Big Pooh, Motion Man, Breez Evahflowin, John Robinson and more, with beats from marink d and Jazz Spastiks. Check for Super, and enjoy this cut from it.

i-EL & Juice Lee Are Double Dragon

Double Dragon = i-EL (aka Ilyas) and Juice Lee. Looks like they dropped a project, Double Dragon 2K11, last month. Lovin' it. Each track definitely references another video game. Features Jermiside, Mega Ran and Stella. Win. Shouts to Meka for the heads up.

G-Scott "SkyLife"

G-Scott "SkyLife": Taking a TSS post about heads needing to remix classic video game soundtracks led G-Scott to flip the Sonic The Hedgehog “Robotnik Theme” into this future bounce. This melody is so choice, I remember Joker dropping this during his “Ghetto Clang” mix for Mary Anne Hobbs, just the theme – it’s that good, untouched. Oh, I finally bought Sonic 4, and it’s taking some getting used to. The soundtrack is just as hype/annoying as you like it, too.

Anyways, watch out for a special version of “Sky Life” to drop on G’s mixtape.

Divine Minds & SoulKlap Give Up The Sticks

Interesting project from Divine Minds & SoulKlap about keeping the mentality of carefree rugrats in a world where you're doing nothing but growing up, hosted by Mick Boogie & Terry Urban (with some dope artwork by Madelyn Lee): "Give Up the Sticks is a video game tribute project. Divine Minds and SoulKlap take it back to the days when your imagination was allowed to run wild, and the day's main objective was to beat the boss on the next level. The production on Give Up the Sticks was inspired by a wide range of video game soundtracks such as Galaga, Kirby, Mario Bros., Track & Field, etc. James John of Divine Minds, SoulKlap and a several guest MCs let their creativity flow over this fresh production, while taking us on a journey through the life of a gamer. Relax yourself, let your conscience be free, and enjoy...".

Random & K-Murdock ft. Ilyas "Hero Muzik"

Random & K-Murdock ft. Ilyas "Hero Muzik": Here's another leak from Mega Ran & Murdock's Forever Famicom project, which is all built on beats culled from video games; I-El joins in on this Zelda-sampling adventure. Love the thump on this one. I was playing Blaster Master the other day - love those 8-bit classics. This track is taken from the Forever Famicon Bonus Pak, which includes 14 instrumentals, three unreleased tracks and bonus beats (and is available for FREE if you cop Forever Famicom via Bandcamp).

Ran said that Ilyas has a new project with Cinci MC Juice Lee entitled Double Dragons that Ran is executive producing - of COURSE this is all about video games, too. Might have to cop those off of the Wii Shop, too!

Random & Murdock "Dream Master/Epoch"

Random and Murdock have been working on their Forever Famicom project, which is right up my alley. I used to be all about the NES, that's all I did. My cousins and I would go ham on whatever games we got and could rent. ANYWAYS, here's their free double single, "Dream Master" / "Epoch"...

"Dream Master": "Dream Master" is an eponymous nod to one of my favorite Capcom Classics- Little Nemo The Dream Master. The game's story was very imaginative and till this day, i'm holding out hope that Capcom decides to "revisit" it as i think it could be just as dope today as it was in 1990! Ran's story-telling of his own biopic fit the track's mellow vibe so well, that is was almost too perfect.

"Epoch": "Epoch" is the more raw of the two songs in this single and samples source material from one of my top 3 RPGs of all time- Chrono Trigger. I always wanted to do something with the soundtrack, and the energy Ran brought with his verses was again, like a perfect match! Till this day, i still find myself revisiting CT just because the story is undeniably timeless.

The full album drops on June 1st. Watch out for their 8-bit videos, coming soon!
