Give A Goat (Jan. 2009)

In December of 2007, I remember watching Good Morning America with my wife, and a story about World Vision allowing people to cop goats for people in countries where that's necessary hit home. Not that I need goats, but it seemed way more practical and interesting that just sending money to a random organization and getting a baseball card with a kid on it. This past Christmas, they had the story on again, but this time I got intrigued, and hit up the World Vision website. I saw a spot where I could order a gift catalog, and recently got mine in the mail. I was amazed with the stuff you could buy for those in need worldwide: goats, chickens, backpacks filled with supplies for school, water pumps, vaccines, etc., all going to a great cause. I then realized I have a blog that gets a decent number of hits daily, and figured I should do something...

So, my idea for 2009 (well, one of my ideas) is to give a goat every month. I really want to do more, but to gauge the response, I'm going with the goat. In their most recent catalog, goats run $75 a pop. You figure 15 people pony up $5, that's the goat right there. Easy cheese, right? So, let's prove to the world that a) we do care and b) you really can do a lot with a little. I'm going to run these every month, and hopefully the funds raised each month will be enough for a goat. That's up to you guys and dolls out there.

So, hit the following widget with as much or as little as you'd like to contribute, and let's get these families in need some goats!
