Rickie Jacobs - "Between Time"

Been a minute since I've heard something from The Jake, and hearing Rickie Jacobs going for broke over a drum-less Jake track? Fucking beautiful. He has all kinds of ill sprinkles and spices spread throughout this one. Even if he doesn't need a blog approval, RTD approves. Oh, and #oops.

Father Shaheed Has Passed Away [UPDATED]

While full details haven't hit, word from numerous heads both in Trenton and in the global hip-hop community is that Father Shaheed, 1/3 of the Poor Righteous Teachers, has passed away in a motorcycle accident. With the late Tony D producing the bulk of the first two Poor Righteous Teachers albums, Shaheed's role seemed to be more of a dope DJ (you'll definitely remember his scratches on Trenton classic "Rock Dis Funky Joint"), but over their progression, Shaheed produced a number of cuts on their last two albums. He also has production credits for Special Ed and Nine; hell, he even has a Destiny's Child production credit, knocking out the beat for their 1998 cut "Know That."

Anyone with more details on Shaheed's untimely passing, please hit up rockthedub@gmail.com. For now, we'll remember Shaheed's work and life.

EDIT  While I'm not 100% sure, it looks like this is the story on the motorcycle accident. (I've been trying to find Shaheed's real name, and it looks like it could be Scott Phillips, with production creds on Black Business and Special Ed's Revelations album.)

EDIT I got word from Shaheed's family that the motorcycle accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway is in fact the one that took Shaheed's life. Shaheed was 45-years-old at the time of his death. Funeral arrangements have not been made yet, but I will update when I receive them. Please keep his family in your prayers.

EDIT Wise Intelligent posted the following statement on Facebook:

POOR RIGHTEOUS TEACHERS would like to thank everyone from around the way, country. and world for their condolences, thoughts, prayers and well wishes concerning the passing of our dearest brother, friend, companion, comrade and fellow teacher - FATHER SHAHEED. This hurts beyond the head, heart and stomach. This pain cuts deep into the souls of who we are. We were more than just a "rap group" and Shaheed was more than just a member and brilliant DJ/producer. He was a great human being, a loyal friend, a great father, a great brother, a damn good son, and a committed husband.

FATHER SHAHEED'S influence in and on our lives runs much deeper than musical recordings. Shaheed was responsible for the more healthy diets we've followed for the past 25 years. He was also responsible for my understanding of the necessity to be on point when it came to your studies as a 5 Percenter. He was the first person I went through 120 degrees with - I never told him that, it was my first time actually meeting him. He asked me what lessons I knew, I replied "120" he said "prove it!"

THIS HAS BEEN a difficult three months for us, and thats saying the very least. We just buried two GIANTS from among us less than three months ago, now we are about to bury a third. I imagine I am dreaming while I'm typing this, hoping someone would tear the curtain down and let some light back into this empty room.

THE LAST TWO TIMES I saw Shaheed were at funerals - his mothers, and XHotep's. Culture Freedom, Father Shaheed and I were all just together laughing over our memories and moments with our brother Xhotep. Sitting at that table we could have never imagined or fathomed that we'd be in this moment right here - right now?

BARE WITH ME if I have not returned your phone calls, text messages or replies to your posts, I am sorry and hope that you can forgive me. I've been knocked off my horse a few times this year alone, and each time it gets harder and harder to get back on. Mounting this horse at this moment seems next to impossible. I will give it some time and as Culture Freedom has taught me - let "patience have its place."

EDIT I got word from Shaheed's family that his funeral service is scheduled for May 31, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton. Viewing will be from 8AM to 10AM, with the service kicking off at 10AM.

The Combat Jack Show: The Lord Finesse Episode

"Diggin' In The Crates co-founder Lord Finesse gives us a history lesson on his days as the Funky Technician, discovering the late great Big L, being a part to the Notorious B.I.G.'s classic 'Ready To Die' album, running with Puff, working closely to this day with Dr. Dre and his legal issues with Mac Miller. Of course there's more to this, so pull up a chair because rap class is in session so you can stop guessing. PLUS, a cameo comeback by Dallas Penn. #Str8Flourishments in effect b."

Leon Rainbow: Politically Incorrect (May 2, 2014)

The one like Leon Rainbow's Politically Incorrect show kicks off tonight at Trenton Social (which is across the street from the Sun National Bank Center on South Broad). Here's a little insight on the show:

"The work in Politically Incorrect incorporates a style that had its genesis in a watercolor mixed media series Rainbow did in 2010 called Freestyle Fridays. In Freestyle Fridays he released a new freeform piece on his website each week for a year. These freeform pieces helped him to develop a style that incorporates complex patterns and designs with imagery and symbolism.

This style further evolved in murals Rainbow subsequently created, one in Trenton (on Clinton and Hudson Street), and another, sponsored by Miller Brewing, in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia (on Frankford Street). In Politically Incorrect, Rainbow is using the movement, style and color of his street work to influence his paintings on canvas, then working the canvases back into the street art. This back and forth cross-fertilization builds new styles and concepts with each piece. Politically Incorrect is an ongoing project."

There's an ill video shot at Miller Brewing that you can see after the jump, as well as a few pictures of what this will entail. Don't sleep, especially if you're into the Arts.
