Rich Quick - "Raize Of The Sun" (Music Video)

I just got a notification for this "Raize of the Sun" video from Rich Quick, which is taken from The Beginning Is Nigh, which dropped back in April. I still haven't even properly processed his passing. Rich was a genuine dude who was also genuinely talented, and this clip proves it.

I still don't know how to even talk about him passing. Questions unanswered. Glad there's material of his to still dive into, hoping to either find those answers or just feel his spirit while I'm still on Earth to shout his name. We miss you, Quick.

The Rich Quick Memorial Show (Oct. 12, 2018)

The NJ scene is still reeling from the passing of Rich Quick, but one of the best ways to heal is to link up with your community and celebrate. That will be happening at the Voltage Lounge in Philly on Friday, October 12.

The bill features the likes of Reef the Lost Cauze, the CORFU crew, Skrewtape, and even Rich's student, HeemFuquan. There will also be a cypher with featured MCs like MiilkBone, Ren Thomas, and more. Even the homey Leon Rainbow will be doing some live painting.

Tickets are available now; $10 pre-sale, $15 at the door. There's also an Art History 101 exclusive Rich Quick shirt on sale only at the event, as well as raffles and a silent auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Rich Quick Scholarship Fund.

Rest in power, Rich.

RIP Rich Quick

The rap game just lost a real one. While details are scarce, social media has lit up with word that Rich Quick, one of the nicest and most memorable artists in this area, has died. If you've been rocking with this site, you've definitely come across a post we've done on his music.

I want to say I first got introduced to Quick back in 2011, during one of the many Garden Variety shows in Trenton. I'd continue to run into him in Trenton, and we struck up a rapport. It was his I'm With the DJ tape that really made me appreciate what Quick did as a lyricist for the area, but it went deeper than that project. He just felt like he was always on the pulse. He was one of the first I remember migrating to SoundCloud. One of the few taking the time to craft songs with live instrumentation, even after cats started making beats at home. He just thought different. Might be why, over the last few years, he was doing way more painting and way less writing.

I guess we won't be able to hear what Quick's pen would sound like after this hiatus. I'd love to know what his next chapter would've included. All I have are these tracks, all of those daps and laughs, his warm greeting whenever we ran into each other in the Town. I'm genuinely going to miss this dude, just like anyone who entered his cipher during his way too short time on this Earth. So while we all try to pick up the pieces, lets loudly blast the music Quick left us. Rest in power, Rich.

Ray Strife and iLL-Omega Are Doing Their Best to Do More Than Just Live

Image via Ray Strife

That headline is a part of the first verse that Ray Strife spits on "America," the opening cut from his five-track EP with iLL-Omega, Preface: I Will Never Be Beautiful. Along with "Never Cease," Preface is part of their prep for Go For The Gusto, which is due to drop this summer.

Gotta say, with the way I can be so in my own head sometimes, it's dope to hear someone like Strife express his own inner turmoil over these bass-heavy beats. And I will also put this out there: Ray and Omega are a pretty impressive rapper/producer combo. You might need to down a six-pack before listening, then drink another while listening. By the start of your third six-pack, this could end up being the soundtrack to the rest of your day.

Stream Preface: I Will Never Be Beautiful below, and cop the full release via Bandcamp. For more information on this release, check out The Wiztard.

Rich Quick Honors The Notorious B.I.G. on "Juicy Symphony"

Instead of some of the corny ass tributes that I've heard for Biggie, the homey Rich Quick speaks truth, transforming some of the most memorable lines from one of B.I.G.'s most memorable tracks for a track that pays perfect homage to the Notorious One while still exuding exactly what we love from Quick. Emily Wells on this is icing on the cake.

Rock out to this, then peep the throwback BIG mix that we did years ago. RIP BIG!

Rich Quick ft. DJ TMB - "Mask"

SOMEBODY had to flip the theme from The Walking Dead.

"A city named Woodbury disguises itself as a safe haven for the characters in "The Walking Dead". Yet once the city lifts its mask, it's true identity shows itself. There are some of us walking the earth who prefer not to live in disguise."

Rich Quick ft. Ryshon Jones, Chris Rivers & Jay Griffy - "Poizon"

If you slept on Rich Quick's The Everywhere Man, you need to stop it, forreal. Don't believe me? Sink into the hypnotic "Poizon," a track that not only features a cast of lethal lyricists, but packs a pretty heavy message. We all have to make choices; if you want to be an idiot, you'll have to deal with that. Be more... smarter, that is.

Rich Quick Announces Debut Album, 'The Everywhere Man'

If you've been rocking with the dub, you should know about Rich Quick. Dude's been on his grizzly for years, setting the Tri-State on fire, and word is that he embarked on his "Buy Me A Beer" tour of the UK this week that'll run through Swindon, London, Redditch, and other cities before it's done.

Quick also announced that his debut album, The Everywhere Man, is set to drop via Soulspazm on September 28th, and features a host of collaborators: featured MCs include Reef the Lost Cauze, Skrewtape, Miilkbone, Jakk Frost, Ryshon Jones, and many others, along with beats from Divine Drummah, J57, STANKFOOT, The Wurxs, and Snowgoons, who produced the title track, which is the lead single you can hear below.

I'm hoping he's back stateside so I can dap him up at Jersey Fresh, and I also hope we get to catch a couple of glimpses from what should be a fire album before the month's out. Pre-order The Everywhere Man today via iTunes!

Rich Quick Runs Through The Life and Death of 2Pac in Five Minutes

An essential history lesson on one of the best to ever do it:

"Searching For Tupac Shakur explains the life of prolific rap icon 2Pac from his birth within the Black Panther Party throughout his rocky yet extremely successful music and film career up until his untimely death. Rich Quick, a life-long fan of 2Pac delivers this biography in rhyme-form driving attention away from both the well known feud between he and The Notorious B.I.G and the many conspiracy theories surrounding his passing."

DJ J Hart ft. Rich Quick, Audible Doctor, Nutso & Davenport Grimes - "Mean Street$"

If you look at this line-up and kind find a reason to rock with this track, you might be going crazy. Rich Quick, Nutso, and the Audible Doctor all on one jawn? Impeccable. It's made even iller with that DJ J Hart production. Word is this is taken from Hart's Passport EP, which is due out in September.

Rich Quick - "No1"

One of my favorite samples gets flipped by STANKFOOT on the latest from Rich Quick, which I see got a dope premiere on Earmilk. I was feeling some type of way this afternoon, and this bit kind of connects with what I had going on in my mental. Stay striving, because there's truly no one but us. If you need the clean version, grab the full package here.

Rediculus ft. Rich Quick - "Buy Me A Beer"

Earlier this year I randomly ran into Rich Quick in my neck of the woods on some creepmode shit. It was right outside of a liquor store. The other day I saw a pic of him with a 40 in his pocket. Not saying he has a problem... just wondering if he's got a few dollars on my tall can.

Rich Quick x Archie Bang - "#Breakfast"

I see that Rich Quick finally got some love that the crew had been waiting for. I know why, but it's good to see that it happened regardless. Look at J57 up in that picture, cheesing while he brown bagging. This shit is fresh, and free. Rich and Archie killed this track, which got recorded at Bucktown USA by General Steele himself. #JERSEY

Been waiting for something like this. Rich Quick over some Divine Drummah beautifulness? Very necessary. This is a dope promo cut from Rich MFN before he embarks on his tour with Reef the Lost Cauze and Jakk Frost. Jersey up in this, but you should've already known that.

Rich Quick - "Sad Songz" EP [preview]

Back in November of 2012, we put you on to Rich Quick's Sad Songz EP (which is out on August 20 via Ben Frank Recordings), which was a true departure for the NJ/Philly spitter. He's been everything from that boy on the stoop to that king in the cipher, and this feels like he's trying to show more of the man behind the sunglasses, cassette tape, and skully. He's not totally becoming "alternative," just bearing more his soul.
