That's right, rockthedub.com has been a thing in my life for the last decade, which is crazy. What started out as a way for me to unload a backlog of reviews and interviews I had piling up turned into a labor of love that allowed me to release compilations people actually talked about, release quality music from New Jersey-based artists, and ultimately lead me to my job at Complex, which has sadly taken me from regular updates here at RTD over the last almost four years.
All of that said, I can't help but be grateful for all of the readers who've stuck through, all of the peers I've talked shop with, and all of the amazing artists who've shown love. RTD has taught me a lot about life, writing, and the industry, and without it, I don't know what path my life would have taken.
In any case, Here's RTD10, a 10-track EP/compilation from a number of artists who have shown love to RTD over the last decade. It contains exclusives from Black Collar Biz and Blahzé Misfits, my favorite tracks from the RTD releases from Deal - The Villain and Emcee Jermaine, and gems from J57, RoQy TyRaiD, the 30 and Over League, Nato Caliph, the Rap Mayor Tone Liv, and Jordanian rapper Satti. 01) Black Collar Biz "CanIKickIT 2016" - Shouts to Trenton's own Black Collar Biz, putting his own spin on a classic Tribe Called Quest single over a beat that he himself hooked up!
02) Nato Caliph ft. Ackurate, T-Dubb O, and Tef Poe "Even" (prod. by Trifeckta) - Shouts to all of the STL hip-hop acts out there. We've featured this track before, so it's dope to have this be a part of the 10th anniversary release.
03) Tone Liv ft. Godilla "In The Sun" (prod. by Haze Attack) - Liv is my dude, Jersey born and bred. Open up a tall can to this one.
04) Blahzé Misfits "Smokin' On Da Purp" (prod. by Ill Mecca) - Lyle Horowitz sorted out this exclusive, and while it's not as boom bap backpack as some of these other jawns, it's my kind of turnt up tongue-in-cheek jawn.
05) J57 "Heisenberg Blue" - Brown Bagger J57 let us give away this cut from his 0057: FlaskLIFE EP from a few years ago. He's been down with the site for a while; shouts to him, Soul Khan, Koncept, and the entire crew.
06) Deal - The Villain "Darksied" - This is my favorite track from Deal's EPic. Massive.
07) RoQy TyRaiD "Hey You!" (prod. by Tunesmith) - Up-tempo hip-hop amazingness from RoQy, who should NOT be slept on.
08) Satti "Late Night Thoughts" (prod. by Haj) - Satti is a Jordanian MC that Haj of Dumhi put me on to. I don't know what he's saying, but I love the sound of it.
09) Emcee Jermaine "Rap Casserole" - I haven't seen Jermaine in a bit, but this ended up being a sleeper even for me from his Jermaine's EP. Very inventive way of talking about the fucked up state of hip-hop using food.
10) 30 and Over League "Show and Prove" (prod. by Fel Sweetenberg) - Shouts to Nico the Beast and the entire 30 and Over crew. There's always something about ending a release with a posse cut that brings me back to the old days of sequencing albums. Enjoy this.
