DJ Andy Smith - Portishead & Massive Attack "Sampled" Mix (12/03/2011)

Shouts to GRANDGOOD for the heads up, by way of Andy Smith: "As part of the 'Sampled night' at Bar Music Hall in London on 3/12/11 (a night of original samples next to tracks that sampled them) I decided to do a short set of Portishead samples and tracks and then decided to do the same with early Massive Attack (& Wild Bunch) samples and tunes as well. It carries on into 80's Hip Hop samples and tracks after this that I might put up one day. It was 9.00 clock in the evening (somebody from the bar even told me to turn it down at one point as people were eating - That's appreciation for you!!!)"

Portishead: Observer Interview

Here's the intro of a new interview with Portishead in The Observer:

This is how the new Portishead album starts. A friendly voice says something vaguely introductory in Brazilian-Portuguese. There's a bit of subdued chatter in the background, and the reassuring plink of a distant piano, as if you're arriving at a half-empty Latin nightclub. Then a huge pummelling beat comes in (Geoff Barrow insists that he was 'massively unhappy' with this rhythm for many long months, but it sounds pretty unstoppable now). Sawing strings summon up a demonic echoing cowbell, before this in turn gives way to ominous slashes of spaghetti western guitar - the sort of thing you'd expect to hear just before a hired gun played by Lee Van Cleef accidentally shoots an innocent child.

I need this album.

Spotted on Idolator, via Gary Savelson, via the Portishead blog:

we went to london for a fews days to finish up. we worked in molko 9 back in ~Bristol now working on some art work and getting the live stuff together. i think one more day messing about with it and it will be done. then into the wonderful world of mastering.. [joke] also the amazing MADLIB is playing with us at ATP and im putting a footy team together for a little 6 a side comp for a laugh. cheers geoff
If you go through some of the other posts, it looks like things are (finally) coming together on this one. Might have to knock out an all-Portishead Dub Session to celebrate. Maybe once the fam and I move into the new War Room.
