Prince Paul Put Out a Free Album This Year and (Seemingly) No One Noticed

I can't hate on being busy...except for when my busy work schedule means I miss dope shit. Case in point, Prince Paul's The Redux, which was apparently a whole album from one of my favorite producers that dropped back in October. Not saying no one knew about it; Mass Appeal definitely premiered a track and posted on it, but I'm shocked that the #RealHipHop contingent that is all over my Facebook timeline wasn't hyping this. Shouts out to kris ex for bringing it to my attention, though.

How many albums find a way to feature the late, great Guru, Jean Grae, De La Soul, Def Squad, MF Doom and many, many more dope artists on the same project?! Paul can, because he's just that dude. Paul told Mass Appeal that he feels this is his best work in some time, and dropped the following description about the release: "I worked pretty hard on it and the concept is simply ‘getting a second chance to get it right.’ Upon listening you will get exactly where I’m coming from! Kind of cryptic but then again my work has always been." It would appear that The Redux is Paul's second attempt at his 2003 album Politics of the Business, which will end up putting a lot of things into perspective.

The Redux is available for free via Bandcamp, although it's in four separate MP3s as opposed to a tracked-out release. It's free, and comes with the promise of some new shit in 2018, so really, enjoy that.

Run The Jewels Dropped Their 'Meow The Jewels' Remix Album For Free

After a week long of living that social media life, it was dope to see Run The Jewels drop their long-awaited Meow The Jewels remix project randomly on Friday. I'd missed their WRTJ show on Apple Music because I had the squad over, but have spent most of this weekend enjoying the sounds of Killer Mike and El-P going ballistic over beats featuring the sounds of all of the cats (including Lil Bub).

You can download this project for free via runthejewels.net, or pre-order the 2XLP vinyl release (which is $38 and all goes to charity). Listen to clips from the project below.

The Nuthouse Camden High And Rising

I leaked a few cuts off of this a few months ago, and I’m glad the full release is as dope as I thought it’d be. Like, Dave Ghetto and Fel Sweetenberg reppin’ over nothing but De La Soul beats? That’s already a great premise for anything. The fact that they got Prince Paul and Set Free to come for some proper skits!??! Above and beyond. DJ Ambush on the executive production, showcasing that tri-state flavor is still thoro. It’s funny, it’s got fly rhymes over timeless beats… it’s like a De La album. These niggas ripped “Rock Co. Kane Flow”!!! If you’re a fan of any of the above artists, you need to rock to this and vibe out. Trust.

The Nuthouse "Ooh"

The Nuthouse "Ooh": This shit is amazing - The Nuthouse is Dave Ghetto and Fel Sweetenberg, and this cut is a bonus track off their Camden High & Rising mixtape, which is a De La Soul tribute, with these two tri-state spitters going ham and cheese over De La Soul beats. Oh, and the mixtape is hosted by Prince Paul! Too amazing; I kind of wish they had let me know about this earlier, I just had a lil chest pain from the amazingnessity of this project.

Prince Paul Presents Horror City

Damn - one of my favorite Hip-Hop producers and all around personalities, Prince Paul, gave away this previously unreleased album, Prince Paul Presents Horror City. I'd go into the backstory, but Paul included some liner notes, so why not just post his note?

This was a project that I wanted to put together with Amityville MC legend Superstar . as I thought about it more I wanted to recruit more Mcs we knew to make it diverse . Superstar already had the name "Horror City" so wen recorded under that name . This project was recorded right after the first Gravedigga album " 6ft deep"in 1995 . I shopped the demo but unfortunately it got looked over and never got signed . I sat on this project for a while but it always had a dear place in my heart because I thought it was really good and the talent was there . I stripped some of the music from the demo and put it on " a prince among thieves" and actually had a few of the guys perform on the " Thieves " album as well but to be honest I always liked these originals better . So now I have decided share these songs with all of you because holding on to them made no sense .. why not share great music . Hopefully you the listener will enjoy this project as much as I do . please share it , thats why I made this for free download . For more group info please log on to http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000981527022 for a proper bio of "Horror City"

Looks like this will be the first of Paul's campaign of free downloads?
