One thing I HATE when shocking things (like the Aurora shooting during the Dark Knight Rises premiere) is when cats just half-ass drop a weak bar relating to the current event. The boy Tom Chase isn't one of those hopalong niggas. This cut, produced by @clawsbeats, essentially fleshes out a narrative based on a story we've heard time and again: someone who has some deep issues, a loner who thrives in the escapist activities like comic book reading and formulates plans to cause real world damage. Accented by snippets of news stories on this case, Chase crafts a thought-provoking cinema on wax. He said the beat just spoke to him and this is the result. Tommie Chase "My Room": Here's the last cut from the recent Tom Chase #musicmonday leaks, and it's a doozie. As many things in my life happen, a random twitter convo sparked Tommie's forthcoming EP, #ZOMBIE, and this cut is skraight off of it. This intoxicating instrumental finds Chase visiting the chambers that his "OTKL" series takes space in. Just opening up the chest, grabbing a cup, and spitting that emotional blood into it. Might be overwhelming, but the shit flows so strongly, you have to just get consumed in Chase's shit. No word on the #ZOMBIE is set to drop, but I'll keep you posted. Tommie Chase "Chocolate Rain Revisited": Finally back home from an expensive weekend at Sesame Place. Phew. Got this track in the inbox last night, and I had to do a double take. Chidda really had to flip Tay Zonday's "Chocolate Rain"!?!? Even brought in Chordz Cordero (from the "30,000" single) to add his vocals to that classic sangin'?!?! This is some unexpected hilarity that turns into some really awesome shit. It's not Tuesday, but Tom Chase has a slick two-fer for you niggas. On the first half of this special, he literally flips some "Scattered Thoughts" over Kendrick Lamar's "Hi Power" #noOTKL, making me wish he had touched down at Garden Variety this past weekend. I feel this shit, too. Part of the reason I fucked with cats like Budden early on. Definitely not for those of you who can't handle real life... fuck. St. Joe Louis "Show For It": It's been a minute since we helped released 30,000 Feet High And Rising, and since then I've been trying to get tracks for the RTD digital imprint sorted out. I finally got a release date for SJL's "Good Morning" / "30,000" single (April 19th), but oddly enough, I'm NOT here to expound on that. This trio has been working on their next project, Basquiat Boyz, and I have a feeling I'll feel better about them using my favorite artist's name instead of niggas like Swizz. Even odder is this track isn't even on that release! Just something their recorded over this previous weekend, and on a more methodical, brooding tip. Also a motto for them in 2011 - niggas don't have time to hop on EVERYTHING, but at least have something to show for the time you do have. Been a long-time coming for this one, but born out of struggle comes the Phoenix, rising 30,000 ft... and continuing to soar. I've had the liberty to hear this project in a few different stages, and I am proud to have RTD attached to this one. This is St. Joe Louis' opus, with MCs like Skyzoo, Daniel Joseph, Nucci Reyo, PH and more joining in. I know they've got some things in the can and ready to run from this project, but that will have to wait... without further adieu, Upstart Music Group, Refined Hype, Potholes In My Blog and Rock The Dub present 30,000 ft.
