DistantStarr "Infinite Soul"

DistantStarr "Infinite Soul" (prod. by Nex Millen): Been a minute since I’ve heard new ish from MAGr’s DistantStarr, and to hear that he and Nex were fucking with some music together? Definitely got me open. He’s working on his solo project, For Them, and the FUNK in this beat allows him to bear his soul. Nex goes from some intergalactic synths atop a more basic drum kick, but the blues-y guitar seeps in, allowing the drums to ride on their own. Distant wastes no time to really kick the lyrics that drew so many smart Hip-Hoppers to the Rap Pack/MAGr crews. Word is there’s more Soul where this came from… get on your spaceship and ride out with me.

DistantStarr Mix 001- Funk-Future by distantstarr

DistantStarr, who you know as 1/2 of MAGr, locked this mix down a few months back, and it is exactly as it's title says it is. If you enjoy it, know that a 2nd installment is now available:

Al Mighty "Death Is Calling"

Al Mighty
"Death Is Calling" (prod. by DistantStarr): Last year, MAGr's No News Is Good News caused quite a stir, as this NJ duo showcased their talents on the mic and the boards. From that release (which RTD put out with the good folk at Public Axis), I got the opportunity to release Al Mighty's Agony Of Deceit, which will be dropping on RTD Records in the near future. This cut is deeply introspective, and finds DistantStarr flippin' a crazy hypnotic beat for Al to expound upon. I imagine many of us have mirrored his thoughts in this track, and should try to figure out how to overcome those feelings. Life is hard... gotta get through it.

Keep it locked for more information on Agony of Deceit when it becomes available.

Bonus Beats MAGr "M-A-G-Who?!?" (prod. by Hudson Mohawke)

MAGr ft. Blu "Laminated Looseleafs (Small Pro Remix)"

MAGr ft. Blu "Laminated Looseleafs (Small Professor Remix)": I didn't meet Small Pro until last October, but I've slowly been getting some serious material from him over the months. This remix of a very popular cut from MAGr's No News Is Good News album is the truth. I know there were/are more remixes of No News Is Good News coming, and Small Pro has a mess of material coming with cats like Al Mighty, Has-Lo and Deal - The Villain (fingers crossed!), so keep it locked for more info on the good homey.

Public Axis & RTD Present MAGr No News Is Good News

After the praise that the "Laminated Looseleafs" leak received last week, Public Axis and Rock The Dub proudly present MAGr's No News Is Good News album, free of charge. NJ has always been a hotbed for fresh Hip-Hop, from Redman and Queen Latifah to Poor Righteous Teachers, Tony D, YZ, Naughty By Nature, Joe Budden and countless others. Thing is, the state stays slept on. In the last couple of years, I've seen many NJ artists get love, and MAGr's Al Mighty and DistantStarr are two talented individuals who deserve that same shine. Their sound is a futuristic throwback: while they wear their mid-90's, Jansport rockin' flavor on their sleeves, the tracks don't sound stale or played out. They take risks (not too many MCs would rock over Hudson Mohawke's instrumental that became "Buttafly"), and it still comes out dope. And even though they are aligned with the Rap Pack, they still come off as two individuals who effortlessly hold their own in the cipher. Dom P has blessed me with the pleasure of dropping this to you free of charge, and I thank him. If you are digging this, continue to support - Public Axis, the Beat Garden and RTD have plenty more where this came from!

MAGr ft. Blu "Laminated Looseleafs"

MAGr ft. Blu "Laminated Looseleafs" (prod. by DistantStarr): Here's a leak from a project I've been waiting to unleash for a minute. Dom P at Public Axis and RTD are presenting MAGr's No News Is Good News album... remember when I hipped you to this back in June? I've been rockin' to this for the last week, and its awesome. Al Mighty and DistantStarr make up MAGr, and both have put in a gang of work on this project. The bulk of the project was produced by DistantStarr, but beats from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Erik L, Fel Sweetenberg and many more compliment his soundscapes very well - and the lyrics? Al Mighty is a beast on the mic, and with features from the Rap Pack and Cymarshall Law (again, among others) help accent MAGr's flavors.

Take this as a warning - you better be ready when Public Axis & RTD Present MAGr: No News Is Good News drops on Monday, August 31st. No sleepin' on Jersey...

EDIT Here's a mirror, if you can't access that usershare link.

MAGr No News Is Good News Cover

I hit you with the mighty B-side from MAGr, "Come Home", the other day; Dom hit me with the cover and some more info on their forthcoming album, No News Is Good News, as well as some info on the LP... "featuring appearances from Blu, Clean Guns, 2ew Gunn Ciz, Cymarshall Law and production from Hudson Mohawke, DistantStarr, Le N?ko, Erik L and Fel Sweetenberg". The artwork was done by Mars Five GFX, and looks so ill. Can't wait for this one.

MAGr "Come Home"

MAGr "Come Home" (prod. by DistantStarr): My homey Dom P finally decided to follow me on twitter, and when I dropped by his twitter page, I noticed he linked a few MAGr tracks I'd never heard of, one produced by 1/2 of MAGr, DistantStarr! D and Al Mighty are two of my favorites, and two shining examples of how NJ gets down - Camden stand up! Dom - where's that album?

MAGr "Feelin' Us"

MAGr "Feelin' Us" (prod. by Tha S Ence): Damn, when these 3 get together, shit pops off! Shouts to my fam at Public Axis for lacing me with these joints. These tracks will not be found on their No News Is Good News album that's set to drop, but consider this as a dope intro to what they're working with.

With the great loss NJ Hip-Hop received this weekend, its good to know that fresh talent still brews. MAGr in the building like BLAOW!

MAGr "Buttafly"

MAGr "Buttafly" (prod. by Hudson Mohawke): Here's a fresh cut from Camden, NJ's MAGr. I didn't know cats fucked with Hud Mo on the beats, outside of my homey Elucid. They roll right over this fuzzy heatrock. I know they have some ish planned for 2009, including a lil' ting for this very spot, so get familiar... shouts to the homey Dom.

MAGr "Dealings"

MAGr "Dealings" (prod. by Tha S Ence): Distantstarr & Al Mighty, AKA Camden's MCs Always Get respect go for broke over another banger from Hustle Simmons' Tha S Ence. These cats have a fly delivery, reminds me of the shit I used to groove to in the late 90s, just with production that's way more fresher (no Kanye).

You can catch both MAGr and Hustle Simmons up in NYC on Sunday, November 2nd, as EODub presents Hustle Simmons, MAGr and Swave Sevah's B-Day. DJ Akshun will be on the decks, and word is it's ladies night!? Show starts at 9PM.
