Emcee Jermaine "Rap Casserole"

Wild how the world runs, isn't it? Back in May of 2010, I got introduced to Emcee Jermaine, who was hosting the Hip Hop Karaoke night in Trenton. That night, I not only had a dope conversation with dude, but heard a track of his entitled "The Anti-Anthem", and was instantly a fan. Over the last year and change, we'd kept in touch, and always managed to run into each other in and around the city. He had been talking about an album he wanted to release, prefaced by an EP that I am lucky enough to be dropping digitally tomorrow, entitled Jermaine's EP, which features "The Anti-Anthem", "The Crazy 88" and this cut, "Rap Casserole".

See, Jermaine and I were cut from the same cloth, and I don't hesitate to recognize how KRS-like his music feels to me. Take "Rap Casserole". We've heard cats compare Hip-Hop (and other things) to food. But with the consciousness that Jermaine eschews, I don't think I've heard an extended comparison between good and bad food and good and bad Rap in this manner. Over a funky, throwback track, Jermaine conjures up many examples of the benefits of good Hip-Hop and good nutrition. As with any of his tracks, he blends wit and knowledge with his skill for penning acrobatic bars. It's edutainment for a new age. And one of the stand-out cuts from the EP.

Jermaine's "Crazy 88" was featured in Steady Bloggin's "Overlooked Gems From 2011" compilation for Passion of the Weiss, and has been performing around the tri-state whenever he's able to. A release party for his EP should be going down soon, as well as a video for "The Crazy 88". Grab the EP, holler at Jermaine and thank him for staying true to the game. He didn't even have to curse.

[RTD Interview]: The Jake

Funkmaster Flex told cats to not drop any material around the time Watch The Throne drops, but the release date for The Jake's Dream Season EP on RTD Records has been solid for like six weeks. Anyways, we've been in promo mode for Dream Season over the last four weeks, and I figured it made sense to let you guys know a little behind one of the underground's finest producers. He's thick into the Soul of the music, and it shows. Putting in work over the last four years, New Hampshire's The Jake is one of my current favorites in terms of tracks. He has those vibin' tracks, and knows how to pick talented MCs to take those beats to the next level. The EP is fresh, now get to know the brains behind it...

Dream Season Preview, Week 2

Following up last week's preview, we wanted to bring you the visual for "Pinot Noir", one of the three solo tracks J. Gunn blessed on The Jake's Dream Season (which drops on the 9th of August). This is an excellent example of how well this MC and this producer work with each other:

Bonus Beats The Jake ft. J. Gunn "Pinot Noir"

We'll have a full preview of the EP up next week. And why don't you guys help me convince Gunn and Jake to rock a full project together!?

Dream Season Preview, Week 1

On the 9th of August, the next release for RTD Records comes from New Hampshire's own The Jake. He's a producer that has actually been on RTD Records before - you might remember hearing his beats on Deal - The Villain's EPic, and I gotta say - I've been WAITING for this project to drop. It's gone through a number of different machinations, and has become Dream Season. Dude's versatility on the beats is amazing - he has the Soulful vibes, but can go ahead and flip something a bit tougher, more rugged. For the next four weeks, we'll be dropping all kinds of promo for this one, and the first is the last track on the EP, "The Flyness", which not only features the one and only J.Gunn (who gets a LOT of burn on this EP, and is someone I hope does a full project with Jake), but also has bars from Jersey's own Rhymageddon!

DOWNLOAD The Jake ft. J.Gunn, Rhymageddon, Classical The Great & Diablo Archer "The Flyness"

We'll be doing some kind of promo on Mondays, leading up to the release on the 9th of August. For the time being, hit the jump for the full tracklist.

PURCHASE: St. Joe Louis "Good Morning" Digi-Single

It's been a MINUTE since we released Deal - The Villain's EPic EP on RTD Records, and the second RTD Records release is the new digi-12" from St. Joe Louis, the Elite Assembly representers from NJ by way of Texas trio of Michael Cardigan, Elete and Tommie Chase. If the tracks on the new single sound familiar, it's because they're taken from 30,000 Ft. High & Rising, the album that we presented alongside Refined Hype & Potholes In My Blog. You gotta support quality Hip-Hop, especially when it's not just about how ill someone is, but some niggas really saying something, and meaning well. Here are some links to purchase, and after the jump, I posted the new video for "Good Morning", as well as the video for "30,000".

Al Mighty "Death Is Calling"

Al Mighty
"Death Is Calling" (prod. by DistantStarr): Last year, MAGr's No News Is Good News caused quite a stir, as this NJ duo showcased their talents on the mic and the boards. From that release (which RTD put out with the good folk at Public Axis), I got the opportunity to release Al Mighty's Agony Of Deceit, which will be dropping on RTD Records in the near future. This cut is deeply introspective, and finds DistantStarr flippin' a crazy hypnotic beat for Al to expound upon. I imagine many of us have mirrored his thoughts in this track, and should try to figure out how to overcome those feelings. Life is hard... gotta get through it.

Keep it locked for more information on Agony of Deceit when it becomes available.

Bonus Beats MAGr "M-A-G-Who?!?" (prod. by Hudson Mohawke)
