Homework Beats Vol. 1

Sometimes I get ideas and don't know what the hell to do with them. Other times, I get an idea and work that shit out an hour later. This mix is one of the latter. Helping my son with his homework, I noticed he responded well to working while listening to music. Not full-on lyrics and stuff, but beats. All of my mixes had odd cuts and curses in them, though, so I figured I'd knock out a quick mix of instrumentals that should get him going, and keep him rocking while busting out his letters and numbers. Nothing too crazy on this one, just some dope instrumentals. A little over a half hour. Maybe more in the future.

Start 'Em Out Young...

This cost $21 bucks, plays lil' renditions of "ABC", "Whoomp! There It Is" and other rockin' tracks, and yes it had the ill scratch sounds for the kids.

Peep game, though: my wife copped this. Go wifey! When I get home today, I might have to jack this from him.

EDIT Just found this on Amazon - the Little Tikes Pop Tunes Mixer sounds like a hit at my house. My son told me I could play with this when I got home.

The Great Gazoo

I admit it - ya boy is a nerd. I watch all kinds of cartoons, but the new ish just doesn't appeal to me. I've sent numerous e-mails to Cablevision in the past, trying to get Boomerang added to my TV channel list. Well, this weekend I found out that I finally got it!

See, I like balance. I hate having my son ONLY exposed to Nickelodeon shit like Spongebob or Fairly Oddparents, which are great shows but not necessarily what he should be exposed to on the regular. And TBH, sometimes he just isn't feeling Noggin (he rides for Diego, though). I also want him to be exposed to quality classic cartoons, ish I grew up with, so he can get a bit of variety without a bunch of off-color humor that he doesn't really need to be hearing. So Boomerang it is!

And, well, I'm Nerdcore McNerdy. I need that Wacky Races fix every now and again.

Willie Joe & B.o.B. "LIl' Rascals"

Willie Joe & B.o.B. "Lil' Rascals": I know this track had already been leaked, but after the night I've had, I had to throw this up. I've cracked my 22 of Becks and I'm reflecting on the last 3 hours of my life, damn near murdering my 2 1/2 year old son (in the right) and his homey Noah. Man, these little kids will drive a nigga crazy! Anyways, this track is my shit - something about that part of the Lil' Rascals theme hits me on a certain level. Plus, its cool to think about my son runnin' wild as a lil' nigga... although he'll never be on the level of grime that Willie and Bobby Ray speak on in this one, if I do my job. Fuck that.

"I'm somethin' like a weak-nigga tester" is a dope line. And this is a dope song. And raising a son is one of the dopest things I've done in my life. Otay?

BHM2K8: A Tropical People

We got hit with a few inches of snow yesterday - that meant it was time to shovel and stay home, toasty warm. Thing is, my 18-month son has never been out in the snow before. So prepared we got for our snow expedition...

You gotta love how boots we bought at the beginning of the season aren't even fitting anymore...

"Damn, what's good with this snow?"

Lil' man stepped off the curb and wasn't ready for the drop...

Yeah, he caught the full snow-suit on his pants. Peep my Starbury boots.

I think it was the wetness on his hands going up in his jacket - he was not feelin' it at ALL!

Seriously. We had only been out there for a few minutes...

"We's a tropical people, Da-Da..."

my little mixtape

So yes, my son was born on September 7th, 2006 at 6:02PM. He weighed in at 7lbs. and 14oz., at 21 inches long.

He is my little mixtape... seeing as though I am African American (with some Native American, German, and whatever else in me), and my wife is Part Puerto Rican, Part Polish, part Irish, and whatever else, he is a total mutt, a true combination of styles. He is a beautiful mixtape. He is also not home as of yet... jaundice has set in, so they are using blue lights (phototherapy) to get his bilirubin numbers down, so that he will be able to come home. His life has been hard so far, from getting snipped to getting pricked in his heel numerous times... hell, he was vacuumed out! My wife is sore, we are both tired, and my little mixtape is not making any true noise (well, except when he is hungry, then you best to feed him). Soon come, though, soon come.

So in the effort to get past the suffering and worrying, I have uploaded loads of pictures of him since the day of his birth, as well as some video from earlier today...

I also loaded up 4 viddys of my boy on YouTube:

You'll be home soon, lil' man. And we can't wait.
