Literally done working for the rest of the decade, so why not drop these uncut gems that hit my inbox/Twitter timeline/DM? It's a regular NYE ting, seen? Latest is a new tape from Chopstars resident DJ Slim K, who applied that chopped up (and never slopped up) treatment to one of 2019's most talked-about albums, DaBaby's KIRK. You know, the album with cuts like "INTRO," "GOSPEL," and "BOP" on it. It's exactly what you'd expect it to sound like. Turn this NYE pre-game tape UP. Stream the full mix below.

Over a month after introducing us to Kraut Juke, DJ Ends returns with one of the best-titled releases of 2018: 808s & Hard Breakz. Representing Munich, Ends is really coming into his own. Cuts like "Baile Drunk," which bring Brazilian funk to life, or the jungle'd vibes of "Wot R U Doin" aren't what I'd have expected from him even six months ago. There's some growth going on with his sources, and it's ill to see him bringing those influences to life.
For Boiler Room's MIXTAPE series, they decided to get A-Trak to drop a guest mix, in which he took it back to the '90s for a special backpack rap set. Loads of '90s NYC hip-hop, from MF Doom and Mos Def to J-Live and CRU, among many more. Recently, Boiler Room shared the video for the set, but it was unfortunately it was only half of the set!
A-Trak, being the stand-up dude that he is, had the full audio from the set, and decided to share it via SoundCloud. Anyone rocking with this site should know what time it is with the tracklist, which is below. Perfect Sunday house cleaning (or weed smoking) material.

On November 9, 1993, two of the most important albums in my growth as a hip-hop fan (and as a man, to be fair)—Wu-Tang Clan's Enter the Wu: 36 Chambers and A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders—hit shelves. Trying to speak on how vital they are to the world is pointless 25 years later. I usually just listen to them ad nauseum (and watching the Wu perform on GMA) and go on with my life. This year? Shit's a little different. DJ Filthy Rich cooked up A Clan Called Wu - Enter The Marauders, a fresh blendtape putting the Wu's lyrics from Enter the Wu over the classic instrumentals of Midnight.
When speaking on the tape to 2DBz, Rich said "The intent was not to improve on the originals in any way… that would be impossible, as I consider them both to be perfect bodies of work. Rather, it was about orchestrating a fun concept, and putting a totally new spin on these well-worn classics. The contrast of Wu’s gritty street raps over Tribe’s jazzy production works in a pleasantly unexpected way."
This sounds like heaven. On November 9, the Philly-based rockthedub-fav Zilla Rocca will be dropping his first completely-solo album in eight(!) years, Future Former Rapper, via POW Recordings (shouts to the squad). Because of how long we've rocked with Rocca and company, and what we've done over here for what feels like eons, we've been given the go to premiere the Starkey-produced(!), Curly Castro-featured cut from the LP, "Name On The Buckle." And it's murdaaaaaaah (word to Ja).
This Philly trifecta really lean into the "street bass" tag that Starkey and the Seclusiasis crew have been championing for years with this heavyweight, anthemic electronic beaut of a tune. Zilla and Curly are two emcees who've always understood how to slide into the pocket of these dense grooves, retaining lyrical potency while lounging in the pocket with a few fingers of fine brown liquor. Starkey does what Starkey does: channel integalactic excellence into bassbin-rumbling numbers, washing hypnotic synths atop like its nothing. It's insane to think that this is their first collab since Curly and Zilla linked up for their "Holodeck" remixyears back.
You can stream the full track below, and on Spotify, and be sure to grab Future Former Rapper (which features production from Small Professor, Messiah Musik, and more) when it hits on November 9.
There was a time when I was on my dean as a blogger. At that time, I stayed hearing new Rasheed Chappell. At some point, I got a day job that kept (keeps?) my mad busy, but he's always been one artist I'd been looking out for, so it's dope that, in my own weekly game of catch-up, I get to experience a project like First Brick, which finds Rasheed linking back up with the legend Kenny Dope, seven years after Future Before Nostalgia.
For those looking for that real hip-hop shit, Ra and Kenny have you. This isn't just boom bap for boom bap's sake; Chappell is weaving tales, dropping jewels, and all-around making me proud to have been a fan back then to hear this right now.
You can stream (and download!) the full First Brick project (which features everyone from O.C. to Lil Fame) below, via Audiomack, or stream it through the usual suspects.
The TEKLIFE camp can't miss. Even their freebies are fire flames. For the footworkers out there, DJ Manny has a new one for you to sink your teeth into. In collaboration with Rolow, he dropped "Find Ya Wings 2020," which is in the pocket of luscious jazz loops and frantic bass and percussion. A true headbanger.
Full stream and download of "Find Ya Wings 2020" below.
Not sure if Fall is truly made for Footwork, but the Teklife camp definitely drops some superior releases during the chiller months of the year. Keeping with that tradition is Heavee, who unleashed his long-awaited album WFM this week; it was truly worth the wait.
Clocking in at eight tracks, there's truly no fat or filler on this release. Many of you will remember his DJ Rashad collab "It's Wack" from Grand Theft Auto V, but that just scratches the surface of this release. "Cloud Ride" (featuring DJ Phil) is a ready-made club anthem, while his Sirr Tmo collab "What U Waiting For" is the space-y footwork trip that the newer school of Teklife producer specializes in.
You can stream WFM in full below, and cop it today. Heavee also dropped a mix for Rinse FM, which you can stream (and download) right now.
November 6 is a while from now, so shouts to K. Sparks for sharing the second single from his upcoming Kurser-produced album Note to Self, "April In Paris". It definitely blends what sounds like a serene spring day in France, but with a hypnotic hip-hop flavor. Peep that second verse; Sparks kicks some ill rapid-fire flows.
Stream "April In Paris" below, and pre-order Note to Selfvia Bandcamp today.
Been interesting to see DJ Ends develop his sound. Obviously influenced by the likes of the TEKLIFE camp, he's been sending his own edits and originals our way for what feels like the better part of the last year or so. With his new album, Walkin, it feels like he finally honed in on what makes him unique while maturing his sound. This eight-tracker will definitely have something for everyone who loves to get their footwork on, trust. Stream below, cop via Bandcamp.
Detroit legend Guilty Simpson linked with Queens-based producer Reckonize Real for Carved In Stone, which isn't out until October 26, and this week they dropped off a hypnotic cut entitled "Can't Runaway" featured two cats from Massachusetts' EMS camp, M-Dot and Mayhem. It's been a minute since they used to damn-near run roughshod over this site, so it's hype to see them still out here building. Stream the full cut below, and be sure to pre-order this one via Bandcamp.
Back in June, Noisia's Thjis linked with Amon Tobin in the studio. The result was "Dzjengis," which they describe as a tune coming from a "dark place". One for the Mezcal (and Tonic) sippers who are trying to work out their problems over menacing, brooding material. Stream below, and cop it ASAP.
Less than a year after releasing their 2017 album The Fiasco, Von Pea and The Other Guys are back with another EP, I'm Good Luv, Enjoy, and most recently, they dropped the first single, the Donwill-assisted "The Twist". It's a dope way to reintroduce us to their cipher, seeing as the first time Pea and the Guys linked up was a collab with Tanya Morgan.
"The Twist" is a chilled cut, perfect for your Sunday loungin'. Stream it in full below, and pre-order I'm Good Luv, Enjoy, which drops on September 14, via Bandcamp.
On Friday, August 24, the AGN7 Audio crew is dropping a new two-tracker from Root for the Villain, a name that you might not be aware of. If you are drum & bass with a tinge of juke, you should be all about this. The single ("Got This" with Jimmy Hoffa b/w "Special Guest") finds intriguing ways to well in that bouncy 160 BPM range while still keeping things rough for the dancehall.
To prep for this mix, and ultimately to get you into his zone, RFTV cooked up a promo mix featuring material from this single, Chimpo, Sully, Dexta, J:Kenzo, and others. Stream that below, and cop the release when it drops on Friday.
In August of 2016, EPROM murdered my brain cells for the rest of the year via his Solid Steel mix. It was so dub-laden that cuts from it are just now getting out. The mix kicked off with his collaboration with ZEKE BEATS, "Humanoid 2.0," which is a bass-drenched, robotic-voiced banger that highlights exactly why both producers are the cream of the crop. It dropped this week via Division, and is a scorcher. Stream it below, and cop it ASAPula.
Some unexpected heat from Method Man? We'll take all of it. This Dame Grease-produced cut "Grand Prix" is from Meth's The Meth Lab: The Lithium, which is being billed as a "collaborative album". That project is set to drop later this year, and hopefully "Grand Prix" is one of many gems on the release. Check out Meth's ginsu-sharp wordplay on this one.
The Jersey Club dynamo UNIIQU3 is back with a brand new EP, Phase 3, set to drop via NLV Records on August 24. This week, she unleashed the title track, and it's a monster. The cut, which finds the Jersey Club Queen infusing a number of throwback sounds into a futuristic club stew, also features UNIIQU3 rockin' her shit on the vocals. Not too many producers are doing it like her, on such a consistent level, but that's just how Jersey does.
Stream "Phase 3" below, and if you need it in your playlists, cop that shit.
Jansport J has been a favorite of this site for a while, so we're loving news of a new instrumental album from him. LOW, his ninth instrumental project, is set to drop on September 28, and this week he let "blue" go. The track's lead by some chopped vocals and moving pianos. Great Sunday soundtrack, trust. You can cop "blue" today, and pre-order the full project via Bandcamp.
Crazy how these things work. According to the receipt I found stuck under the driver's seat, Nostrum Grocers (aka the collaboration from Milo and Elucid) was born almost three years ago, when Elucid flew out to Milwaukee to chop it up with Rory. They then sat on the project, not getting back into the project until 2017. Interesting enough, during the time this album was conceived to when it was released, both emcees became fathers. You can hear growth and optimism in the lyrics, although it packs equal amounts of black power and clarity in the 10-track opus as well.
Stream and cop this album via Bandcamp, and if you're in the NY area, you can hear it performed live on August 19 at Elsewhere (Zone One) in Brooklyn.
