the shuffle. [10/7/06]

Forgive me world, I am kind of out of it. Had a nice lil' get together @ my mom's, got to see the fam. Had a great time even though there was a fucking french tip nail in the icing f my slice of cake. Fucking Risoldi's bitches.

Did you grab my new mixtape? It's full of blunted vibes and my mixed heaven. Check it out if you like your mixes a bit subdued and such. New one coming in the next few weeks...

We'll see how much I get done tonight; too many distractions, too much sleepiness... walk with me.

01/What in the fuck made MTV think that a Save The Last Dance 2 flick would be necessary, no matter how fly/slutty Izabella Miko is. Ne-Yo apparently owns a club in this flick, and felt the need to give an interview on how difficult it was to play a club owner. I mean really, that acting money is beautiful, you can have most niggas be WHOMEVER when the red record light comes on. Stop frontin' like your non-dancing ass has had to dig deep and get into this complex role...

02/You liked that Google Video link, right? Well, that's like the first time I searched and found what I need on Google Video. The odd thing is, word came out that Google is trying to cop YouTube. It would help Google Video, because it sucks. YouTube just went into some deals with other companies for advertising space, so it might be odd to then jump into a Google merger, but hey, if the money is right, do the damn thing.

03/On the "tech" side of things, some interesting developments have gone down: I keep speaking on the Zune, and here's another interesting article on why the Zune is going to murk the iPod. Only time will tell, but they are talking a good game so far. On the flipside, McAfee has blasted Microsoft about their lack of attention to security holes in Windows Vista, which is a crying shame. The deck is stacked against Microsoft, and I don't think I plan on getting their latest update. Finally, it looks like Firefox needs to get it's shit together. Two hackers have come forward saying that the browser is flawed and damn near impossible to fix. Get on it, your browser is dope so far.

04/You gotta love how the rappers are trying to murk themselves. Cassidy got critically injured when his SUV got smacked by a fucking U-Haul truck. Fucking fractured skull? If this nigga gets out of this alive, I smell a 2x platinum record! In other crack rap news, Jadakiss figured it would be OK for him to walk around Yonkers strapped -- until he got arrested. NO WONDER D-BLOCK IS STILL ON THE SHELF. Fucking boss can't even keep his sheet clean. Being a dope rapper, you already have weed carriers... shouldn't there also be gat carriers? I just don't get it... niggas will speak that "don" talk in their verses, but end up getting knocked and beat on some dumb shit.

05/On the interview tip, there's a few interesting ones knockin' about... G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid gave AllHipHop an in-depth interview, where he lays down how he built his international DJ community, as well as how he used to pay niggas for exclusive tracks! And not any old nigga, but writers and journalists and shit. They wanna beat up on the kids sitting on the P2P networks, but won't take down the jig who is in the public eye and admitting to the shit! On the lighter side, Peanut Butter Wolf broke bread with xxlmag.com to speak on Stones Throw, the passing of J Dilla and other interesting points. Gotta love PBW; check out Chrome Children, as well as Peanut Butter Wolf's "Chrome Mix" (download : stream). Finally, the one like El-P took time out from his blog to speak to Pitchfork about his upcoming album. The most interesting bit about this is his commenting on a new Cannibal Ox album in the works, but I hope his LP is shit-hot.

06/I guess George Michael was just doomed to repeat history... earlier this year, he was busted for drug possession while being found "slumped over his steering wheel" in his car. The same thing happened this past week. What kind of world is this? You know if this was someone else, this bitch would have been locked under the jail; good George can be free to drive around high on cheeba and dreamin' of bath houses. Silly shit.

07/With all of the beef in Hip-Hop these days, it's shocking to find out that the true fighters are blonde bimbos like Paris Hilton and that Shanna chick who was with Travis from blink-182. Shanna apparently smacked the shit out of Paris at some club, mainly b/c Paris has been seen with Travis in the last couple of weeks. Big woop, Shanna; let your ex get some of that night vision pussy. The story gets a bit crazy, with people saying that one of Paris' exes bent this chick's wrist and threw her down some stairs or some shit. I mean, I don't know who or what to belive, or why I care, but I just wish I could see people like 50 Cent come out and do something like this instead of being a bitch and talking about it on wax. Go smack a bitch in the club, then call me.

08/There are some things that have merit, and some thing that fall to the wayside. John Mark Karr's porn charges were dropped on some bullshit, and this 12 year old is considered a sex offender in NJ. Here's the kicker -- he gave someone an enema. Apparently, years ago, he was playing doctor and used a douche to give his brother and then himself an enema. Kids being kids? Who knows, I mean I wouldn't do shit like that, but some kids play differently. It has been said that the boy was not acting in a sexual matter, but the Supreme Court says that that does not matter. I mean, really, if I were to use an enema on myself, would I be considered a sex offender? You know, asses, wet, gay men, child molestation. That has to be the chain of events the Court was looking at, no? If not, then what? Does his brother think he is going to start beating him off or something? I'm at a loss... especially when this fucker is not getting charged yet. How Mark Foley, who has reportedly fucked one of those pages, is escaping charges is beyond this nigga right here.

09/Speaking of improper sex addicts, R. Kelly has been charged with beating his "mentor", some nigga named Vaughn, and stealing the idea for that God-awful "Step In The Name Of Love" track. Now how you can mentor someone like that is beyond me -- regardless of his sexual antics involving little girls and urine, the man does the damn thing musically. I don't think suggesting someone make a track influenced by the "Step" craze can be seen as guiding. It's a fucking suggestion, nigga. And you are mad that he beat your ass over that? Should have kept your mouth shut with that madness.

10/Today's TV: sometimes the companies get it wrong, but in terms of Spike TV, they got it right when they cancelled that Blade TV series. I heard the stories were a lot better than the acting, which doesn't help a damn thing. Sticky Fingaz as Blade? Nigga, please! And if anyone can get Dead at 21 for me on VHS or DVD, ket me know!

11/It's official: Raekwon has signed with Aftermath. Those waiting on Cuban Linx 2 can now expect it to drop soon... or in 2020. When it drops, it might be nice, but who knows. I mean, really, why try and recreate a masterpiece? Drop the dream and give us some new heat.

12/So a new Jay-Z track has been leaked to the Internets this week... "Show Me What You Got" is a toss-up depending on who is listening to it, but according to Def Jam, this wasn't even supposed to be released. Yeah, right. Like leaks just happen to appear online. Someone who knows something has to get this done, not just some random blogger. Be forreal. You put it out to gauge the response, and when it blows up, you guys are calling the FBI. Fuck you. Peep how Jay speaks on it at XXL, like the track is some throwaway shit. Let's be forreal, nigga. You love this attention right here. Well, come better next time, and we'll see. XXL also dropped a nice piece on Jay's post-retirement verses.

Word life, that's it for the week that was. Get ready for the week that will be, and this video should help you get ready:

Friday, October 6th 2006 playlist

What a weird week, musically. I really haven't been rocking to a lot of NEW music. I heard the new albums from Ed Rush & Optical, as well as the new Gridlok lp, and while the former is kind of bleech, the latter is DnB crack. Jay-Z has a new single out, "Show Me What You Got", produced by Just Blaze, which I'm on the fence over. The intro sample gave me goosebumps, but I was expecting it to flip the classic Public Enemy interlude, but to no avail. You decide... some seem to already be hating it (peep Jay and Just's thoughts on this track as well). I did listen to a lot of Paul Mooney this week, well I listened to his Analyzing White America DVD audio a bunch of times. Funny shit.

Drum & Bass/Jungle:

01/Bachelors of Science "Sweat" [horizons music dubplate]
02/Pish Posh "Fosforus" [rawkuts]
03/Aspect "Soul Lady" [blu saphir]
04/CLS & Wax "Black & White" [med school]
05/Universal Project "Nu Born" [up]
06/Gridlok "Bottomfeeder" [project 51]
07/Perpetuum "Kingdom" [metalheadz/rufige(?) dubplate]
08/Soundclash "Crying Out" [dirty dubs]
09/Seba & Lenk "Captain Freak" [secret opertations]
10/DJ Vapour "Flys On Shit" [intasound]

Hip-Hop:

01/Dr. Dre & Knoc-turnal "Bad Intentions" [I found myself watching The Wash, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. This track made up for it, even though the lyrics are pure ig'nance!]
02/Frank'N'Dank "What Up" [track of the week. peep that 12", on the real.]
03/INI "Fakin' Jax" [classic Pete Rock shit. peep my new mixtape to hear it if you are unfamiliar.]
04/Ludacris "Tell It Like It Is" [Luda breaks it down for the new jacks and haters. Solid track from the former all time funny man.]
05/Mos Def "Undeniable" [new Mos. Rizoh called him the "Dangerous" Mos, not the MC who (barely) showed up for this last LP. Gotta love his fire. His video for "Body Rock" was on the other day; loved that track.]
06/AZ ft. Little Brother "Rise & Fall" [kind of somber, but this is a dope one. loving that piano and the snaps.]

Mixed:

* Here's a live radio mix from State of Mind. Loads of exclusives and just plain hot DnB mixed in there, from the Chameleon LP on Virus to new shit from SKC, Concord Dawn, Bulletproof and many more. Big up to NZ.

Final Thought:

Had a really deep appreciation for Cypress Hill back in the day. This was on a remix EP of theirs, featuring the Def Squad and MC Eiht. I leave you with... "Throw Your Hands In The Air":

khal "Like Father, Like Son" (Sept. 2006)

Last month, my son Jayden Khristopher Davenport was born. I spent the night with my wife and my son the night he was born (Sept. 7th, 2006). I hadn't planned on being there on the 8th, a Friday, but with wifey in such pain, she felt it would be best if I stayed there with them. So I rushed home, got some stuff together, grabbed some Wendy's to munch on, and proceeded to the hospital. Once we got there, however, they were moved to a semi-private room due to overcrowding, so I was unable to stay there (hospital procedure). I went from being prepared to get the house ready to being a proper husband and father and getting there for the loves of my life, to being told I now cannot stay. Needless to say, there was a brewing anger inside of me that I needed to get out. Aside from doing some writing and politicking that night, I got a mix done which was created to help calm my nerves, express some feelings, and just be an overall fun ride. This mix is literally one month old, like my son, and I feel it's time to let out this latest Dub Session... peep the tracklisting:

khal - Like Father, Like Son (Sept. 2006)

Like the other mixes I have posted online, this is not "mixed" persay; think of it along the lines of a proper mixtape that you might make for a friend or loved one, with a collection of your favorite tracks on it. Some thought was put behind this, and it flows in a nice manner. I hope you enjoy it. Here are some dload links:

LOST, Season 3: "A Tale Of Two Cities" [recap]

God damn, yo, here we go again... another new season of one of the most complex and compelling shows on TV, LOST. And they continue to pile it on THICK for us devoted fans...

This episode showed us a different side of the island, literally... we saw the random community the Others have built in the middle of the jungle. Nestled deep in the jungle, they delve into Stephen King novels (Carrie?) in book club, burn muffins, have plumbing problems, and plot to infiltrate the camps of survivors of a huge plane crash... you know, just a typical day. The main "Others" are all there, from fake beard Tom to fake Henry Gale, who has been referred to as "Ben" in this episode for the first time. There is a new female we are intro'd to, Juliette, who seems to have had some type of a falling out or disagreement with Ben, for they share sideways glances, even though he is the leader. Their peaceful day was disrupted by Oceanic Flight 815's crash, which kind of set us in the zone of seeing at least this chunk of the story through the eyes of these "Others". Ben went right into dictator mode, alerting both Goodwin and Ethan to scope the survivors, gather lists, and get plans into action. We know what happened to those two though, right?

The flashback of this episode circled around Jack's descent into lunacy over the identity of his wife's lover. He was seen stalking her, jacking numbers off of her phone and trying to find that dude. His father ended up in the mix, for Jack found out Sarah called him, seemingly for support. Jack saw his Pop on the phone, smiling and talking, which lead him to follow Dad to his AA meeting by mistake. In a fit of rage, he accused Daddy of sleeping with Sarah, which we find out is not the case. He tackles Dad and spends some time in jail -- there's goes the 50+ days of sobriety! Sarah tells Jack to give up his search with an interesting line: "it's not about who he is, but who you are not", which mirrors a comment Juliette makes to Jack...

"It's not about who we were, but who we are now". Chew that one out for a bit... speaking of present day, Jack has been separated from his friends Sawyer and Kate, and all 3 have seen some odd shit. Kate was given a shower and an oceanside breakfast with Ben, although she had to wear handcuffs. They did not match the beautiful dress she wore, though... when she asked why he was doing that for her, he bluntly told her that the next few weeks will be unpleasant, and he wants her to hold on to some good times. Did I mention how chilling dude is? He also tried to plant some seeds and dig for some love-triangle information, asking her why she put Sawyer's name first when asking about Sawyer and Jack...

Sawyer was thrown into a cage built for bears, originally, and spent the majority of the episode trying to decipher how to eat (you gotta put a rock on the step lever, then push the button, THEN hit the top lever with your shoe), which consisted of a meal of pellets, water, and a DHARMA fish biscuit. Cute. Some dude was put in the cage across the way, but somehow managed to pick his and Sawyer's locks and attempt an escape. Juliette found Sawyer in the woods and zapped him in the neck. He was properly put back in his cage, and the young dude (was he down with DHARMA?) apologized for involving Sawyer in his escape plan. Strange... after all of this commotion, Kate is then put in the cage across from Sawyer, with noticable wounds on her wrists from the handcuffs (or did they do something else to her), and Sawyer shares his biscuit. You could see her eyes being 2 seconds from total meltdown, but she held it together.

Jack, however, received the craziest time of all. He was locked in this weird room, with nothing but a table, a broken(?) communication box and some chains. The one wall was clear, but hard, for he could not kick through it. Juliette would speak to him on the other side, exchanging questions and trying to establish trust over grilled cheese. We find out that not only is she a doctor, but the Others have links to the outside world. Juliette had a fucking dossier full of info on Jack's life, from schooling on through to why he was in Sydney. He painfully asked if his wife was OK, which Juliette replied yes. During their "getting-to-know-you", we find out that the Others MIGHT have been DHARMA operatives at some point. We also know that the place where Jack and Juliette are speaking is another station, called "The Hydra", probably due to the fact that it is underwater (which Jack found out after repeatedly refusing to open the one door that held back the water, almost drowning himself and Juliette, which Ben seemed to not care about). The Others also don't live in those ragtag clothes that they wanted you to think they wore; they are definitely a lot more sophisticated about things. And they have eyes and ears all over, whether it's cameras or covert ops. All we know is that our LOSTies are in for some shit they haven't even BEGUN to understand... and some questions that still need answering (who really ARE the Others? Why do they capture and seemingly study Jack, Kate and Sawyer? what happened to Desmond? did Michael and Walt really escape? the question stream is ENDLESS!)

Now, onto the preview: we see that Saayid has concerns about where Jack and the others are, and sets to find them with Sun and Jin via sailboat. The Others had no idea they had the boat, but sends out Tom and crew to stop them. The quick cuts showed some gunfire, with Sun possibly falling from the boat/getting bucked? Who knows. It looks like we will be reacquainted with the people we grew to know and love the 1st two seasons, to see their reactions to the big BOOM from the Season 2 finale. Can't wait.

The shit has just hit the fan, people... grab your umbrellas.

More Virus than Virus!

How can Gridlok out 'Virus' Ed Rush & Optical? Easily... by releasing his slammin' Break The System album. Compared to their new disc, Chameleon, Gridlok might be the go-to guy for that dark, hard, grimey neuro sound. And who said stateside DnB is shit?

It's just hard to believe that guys like Ed Rush, Optical and Matrix, while showing signs of their older ways, have developed into the antithesis of what a lot of people feel their music stood for. It went from taking chances and doing it for themselves to what at least sounds like they are trying to cater to the dancefloor exclusively? For some (many?), this is a hard pill to swallow... but with albums like Gridlok's, as well as the tracks that producers from The Upbeats to SKC, Optiv to Fierce, and not to forget the mighty DNAudio crew, the true Virus sound is not dead at all. It just kind of disheartens many that the pioneers of that shit seem to not give the people what they want, or what has been rumored to be coming... gotta love that Virus Vaults album, though!

LOST Season 3 premieres tonight!

First off, for those who missed out on the LOST Experience ARG, check out the main piece found, this video detailing some of what DHARMA is after:

If you need more information on the LOST Experience ARG, check out The Lost Experience Clues blog. Your best bet, if you want to follow it in order, is to check it out backwards.

So tonight is the big night, eh? We get to find out what Jack, Kate and Sawyer are in for with The Others. Remember, this season will be a core 6 episode start, then a hiatus, to be brought back next year with a full run, i.e. NO RERUNS AT ALL. While LOST is on hiatus, some new TV show will appear... crazy.

In any case, nobody call or message me from 9PM-10PM EST, for I will be on the island. Expect my recap sometime tomorrow.
